Your bow armor can get overmatched by alot of shit and theres just thinly armored cit behind it. Ruskie DDs have some of the most broken ships in the game right now, so you'll be fine going up there.
These days the Germans are actually a pretty decent line though, they're decent hybrid gun/torp botes and are pretty fun to play, they're actually really good when you can make use of the sonar. They're just worse than the US when it comes to helping out your team with smokes.
If you want to try another line that's a little more of a traditional DD line then the Germans are pretty good.
