I haven't messed with custom triggers in a while but I think it's just as simple as pic related. Type whatever you want into the Category, the "Regular Expression" is basically the text it scans for in the battle log. Make sure to check the "beep" box or something, you could even record some audio and use a custom .wav file as a sound alert if you want. After you're done with everything click add/edit in the top right and you're good to go.

Money is tight when you're first starting out, so learn where all the airships are and walk/use chocobo porters if you can't be assed to spend the gil on a teleporter. The base game story is rather dull until about level 50 or so which is when the MSQ slaps you around with enough content to make you think your abusive stepfather had a hand in the quest design team. You can be any class/job in the game on a single character, so try on all the silly hats until you find a job stone that doesn't chafe too badly when you shove it up your ass.
