I have a timeline theory and its probably garbage (as most are), but what if this is a "Ganon wins" scenario from Wind Waker? He got what he wanted, and this was the Hyrule that was originally submerged, and he gained incredible power from getting his wish from the triforce.

The reason its so mountainous and the landscape is so dynamic is because the peaks used to be the islands, and a lot of the ground eroded when it was underwater.

It would explain why there is Rito in this timeline, and why things only referenced in the adult timeline still happened.

(If you're gonna use the "twilight" line to debunk this, we don't know when the Twili were sealed in the first place, that could have happened before the original split at Ocarina)

BotW is 10000 years after the Guardian war, we have no idea how long it's set from the last Zelda game in it's timeline. Rito, Zora, and any other race has had way more than enough time to evolve and it's surprising that no new races exist instead.

Ganon could have never gotten his wish granted, for he's never in balance and doesn't have a pure heart, he would have only gotten the triforce broken again and delayed the inevitable.

I enjoyed them just fine, but they certainly won't be in a "best dungeon" contest.

What I did love about them was the music, the atmosphere and the fight before, except for Rudania which didn't have a fight or good music for that segment.

I just enjoyed knowing how stupidly big the divine beasts are and how open the world felt, and man looking down on Hyrule while on Vah Medo was amazing.

That's not how it works. Literally nothing Ganondorf did would make any sense. You wouldn't be able to explain ALttP. Daphnes sure as hell wasn't balanced either. OoT clearly states that once you manage to reunite the pieces, you can have your wish.

Open world doesn't mean open story.

It's the logical next step in a game like Zelda though. I mean, if you were to make TP nowadays, it would make sense for the world to be as open as possible. But this doesn't mean the story progression will be the same as in BotW where you can access everything as soon as you get the glider.

It makes sense and with Nintendo showing that they can make an open world game like BotW, I'm more than ok with them confirming the obvious.

They've been wanting to do this since always, but technology hasn't been on the level that would allow them to.

I mean, Skyward Sword feels like the kind of game where you would have been able to fly through the entire world and not just be limited to 3 areas. OoT and TP are as open world as they could get back then as well and the 2D Zelda games are pretty much Open World games in 2D with their obvious limitations.

I played all Zelda games. I wished it were in child, especially after the Hyrule Castle Town reference. I really like that timeline. But this game screams DOWNFALL, DOWNFALL, DOWNFALL all the time. We're placed in the ruins of a fallen kingdom. We're right in there. In WW, we already left the kingdom behind. In TP, the kingdom was, despite being under attack, relatively intact. We're right in yet another decline. It's the very setting.

The problem is that my impressions are based on feeling and atmosphere. I can't win an argument against WW fanboys like this. Based on the references and the totally random places we see, a convergence of timelines should have happened. HW showed us how it could have gone, and Aonuma expressed that he liked that non-canon game. I like the idea that other places got swept in. That's how I'd get the TP era castle town, even though it should have crumbled to ruins. That's how I'd get the Lon Lon ranch, which should be dust by now. This game could be Aonuma's attempt of making HW canon. Or not. I don't know. Whatever the game became in the end with its random references, down below, it's a game about the decline of the Hyrule kingdom, with an antagonist from the timline of decline, with a tunic that looks like the others from the timeline of decline, with a master sword that works like in decline, and temple structures from the timeline of decline. It's just too much.

It's absolutely gotta take place in Downfall based on Aonuma saying it's after OoT. I wish he didn't say anything so we could just say it's an alternate reality, but the fact that it has to be in the timeline definitely points towards convergence. Which is completely retarded when alternate timeline (as in total divergence after SS) is a much simpler explanation.

One crackpot theory I've been toying with is timeloops/cycles leading to multiple iterations of Hyrule. A more recent one is Sheikah actively time travelling, since they do seem to be responsible for the Ocarina of Time and the time portal in SS. And we all know that time travel plots just completely implode when you don't have solid rules, which would certainly explain why the Sheikah died out and how the timelines converged.

Hylians are a chosen race. They have their holy goddess. The have their everlasting kingdom that reemerges shortly after breaking down. They have next to no pressure to advance their technology. Imagine Europe that didn't learn from the old Greek and Romans and didn't have to fight off themselves and external threats that could be beat with better war technology. Ehhhh, debatable. It's true Nintendo haven't really "competed" since the Wii - or arguably even the gamecube - but Microsoft and Sony are still butting heads over this generation. It's only halfway over remember, both of them expect the PS4/Xbone to last ten years before the next generation of console. That's more than enough time for Microsoft to make up lost ground during the first few years, similar to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The thing is, the Wii U was a record failure for Nintendo. Even they admitted it - it's sales numbers were atrocious, reception was lukewarm and it already ceased production before the Switch was even released. They've seriously got to bounce back with the Switch or they might start drifting into the Sega territory, relegated to being a third party publisher with some old IPs under it's belt.

The biggest mistake they made with the Wii U was releasing the 3DS version of Smash first, which would have shipped millions of Wii U units had they staggered the release in opposite order. Sure they would have gotten called out, but I'd be damned if it wouldn't have worked.

Yet that's also it's weakness, because it's also available on the Wii U. As well as that, Cemu has been making some SERIOUS progress (and money) on getting BotW playable. If there are easier, and cheaper methods of getting almost the exact same experience, then people are likely to take them rather than the Switch.

Does Nintendo ever release Zelda OSTs? Would love a full-fledged piano soundtrack to listen to without the game sounds.

I'm all for keeping a playable archive of games once a given console becomes obsolete in the market or something, but for games a given company is still trying to sell, I've no sympathy for pirates.

As someone who is playing BotW on Cemu right now, you'd be surprised how easy it is. A pretty clean GUI launcher that you can download the game with, then launch it with Cemu. The performance has also made a massive leap with the latest update - with appropriate tweaks, people are getting solid 30fps and with all the physics and runes working. Of course, the people that can be bothered to figure out the emulator, tweak it, have a PC capable of running BotW and are also interested in Zelda is marginally slim.

AFAIK Emulators are protected under copyright rules of some description or another. The emulator itself is completely legal, the part that emulates a Wii U on a PC. Playing BotW on it is legal too. It's just that if you are using a pirated ROM for BotW, that's the illegal bit - which the emulators developers have no control over, and doesn't legally affect them.

Emulators and playing games on emulators is perfectly legal, it's just stealing the games to play them on isn't. They can't arrest the guy at Wal-mart who sells you the balaclavas and guns even though he knows damn well you're going to use them to rob a bank. Which isn't a great analogy but the point is that they're perfectly legal tools which the vast majority of people will use to do illegal things, and you can't do shit about that.
