So after testing with Gawain for a while I've only found him consistantly useful for Cannon decks. Not even joking.

I've been doing very well against decks consistently unless my hands are bad. Even dragon.

White Paladin + Gawain is really nice especially when cannon is out. 1-2pp for 3 damage to an enemy follow or face if you are in control of the board is great.

Luminous Mage + Cannon is also very satisfying since she brings with her a second commander.

Here is my deck, I could definitely make my Bellringer into Veteran Lancers but sword has no reliable way to draw and it's nice to dig a bit so my hand doesn't suffer.

I'm not sure about the Unica's or Cyclone blades though. What do you guys think??

Yes. You don't get to play the best of everything immediately without whaling or getting good enough at arena to arena infinitely.
The game is pretty generous in that even if you're retarded, you can still do your daily missions to get about 50 packs a month for a good deal of cards in addition to each expansions launch packs and any event packs. Mind you, if you're good at arena you'll be making over 60 packs a week but whatever.

I do have a deck centered around Walfrid and cards that generate tokens (Otohime for example) but all match ups for the most part run aoe and that just isn't as consistent as I would hope. Unless I am playing against dragon, most board wipes will not be touching my amulets and generally after a wipe they end their turn so I am able to just drop more commanders to get some direct damage via cannon.

I've been watching JP streams and like 8/10 of them are testing Gawain decks. So far the ones that I saw worked were Walfrid + Otohime decks and surprisingly Cannon decks which works better than Walfrid decks.

Aggro is easy as fuck to build because the amount of aggro cards shadow has is limited for each slot, they only need take make sure they deal enough damage to face so they can cerb howl on 6. Midrange got overloaded with new cards and most people are still figuring it out.

Aggro Shadow is definitely not trash, but it WILL fall by the wayside in favor of midrange. The decks are both pretty similar in structure anyway so switching back and forth between the two is easy. Back in DE I would joke and say that "Midrange Shadow" is just Aggro with LotF thrown in.

Also Apprentice Necro is not total shit now and it feels good.

Either way, if you aren't playing Sexton in this meta, with lightning blast and the new haven banish cards then you deserve to lose.
