I am too, but if you are looking for effectiveness, its the wrong job. SMN outclasses it in every way, and BRD/MCH outclass SMN in every way but AOE.

You can still clear content with it, but you'll find it hard pressed finding a group as BLM because people adhere to the meta at all times rather than just where it matters (super hardcore)

Erm, what? EDD isn't a dps check that is meaningful because Creator is faceroll. Timegates are horrible for BLM and SMN and they are best outside of the timegates. Steam regulators, sure, but BRD received buffs after that and MCH handled them fine. But BLM and SMN were awful at regulators due to the movement required (other than the SMN bane cheese you could do).

I've done timegates as a caster. You can do them but you have to keep a hold on cooldowns to do them, and you have. There's no reason for them to be inside the timegate at all. Nothing to do with parses, its just bad for the group.

Steam regulators - you have to move for the ground AOE that can be aimed at you, and the mega beam that can be aimed at you. At the very least you have to save swiftcast.

I've got my SCH to 60 by doing MSQ and stuff, but i wanted a melee dps so i'm playing DRG. I've just been doing Fates and a Daily Levelling Dungeon Roulette - trying to cover the Dungeon, Fate and Player Commendation bits in the challenge log

I've also done my entire Hunters Log so that's out.

A8S at 270 with Echo is probably about on par with A11S at 270 without Echo, for a static that's going to be coordinated no matter what fight they're in. It's going to be much, much harder if it's a random PUG where nobody wants to bother working together and you can't trust people to do mechanics.

The numbers checks are going to be an absolute joke even compared to Creator, but you're still going to have to learn all the mechanics, and that means getting eight people to learn the fight and to be able to coordinate to do the mechanics.

These are a better martial arts shoe but they're eighteen Yoshi Bux.
Moonfire sandals seem a tad delicate but give them a look. There's hard leather/militia caligae but I think you wanna keep some shin bare? All the other sandals are basically just open-toe boots (Kirimu is ugly to me) or alter the model, like Demon caligae and summer sandals.

as a DPS the queues will be decently long, but you can always do other shit while you wait. even without the roulette bonus, chain bonus EXP when you're at the level of the dungeon and just the fact you're getting EXP from trash in addition to the huge chunks of EXP bosses give mean that a decent run of a dungeon works out to be more EXP than a run of potd.
