Dark Souls I was a great stand alone game, Dark Souls II was alright as a separate story after SotFS, and I could accept things being vague before the Dark Souls III's DLCs, but why the fuck would Miyazaki keep adding new misterious lore and creatures in what's supposed to be the very last piece of Dark Souls content?

Greatsword, Zweihander, Ringed Knight Paired UGS, Smoughs Hammer, Ledo's Greathammer, Dragonslayer Greataxe, Yhorm's Great Machete, etc

Any of those will do the trick. If you're SL100+ and have the equip burden to spare Ledo's Greathammer is one of the highest AR weapons in the game right now. Shits on ganks if you play it right.

I think a lot of you guys have some insane rose tinted glasses on. There was for sure a 'golden age' of these generals on /v/ and such, but things went to shit (imo) a lot quicker than some people are willing to admit. Those days were cool, but I think a lot of people here and elsewhere aren't willing to come to grips with the fact that, maybe they are just burned out with souls games in general.

Going to fight Midir for the 100th time, /dsg/. Rate my build.

Dark souls lore is done. It was beautful in ds1, a little weird but OK in ds2 and now they've fucked it. They'be told the same story three times whe changing slight things and names to add one or two "little" lorebombs, but all they do is fuck the lore up. No joke, the majority of dark souls 3 lore is retcons of what we've been told before. Anyway. Here's Gael.
Gael is tasked with retrieving the blood of the dark soul for a super special awesome painting, and no one including him thinks he can acrually do it. Queue wacky adventures and he ultimately finds the dark soul and the Pygmy Lords who possess it, but they are long dead. Unable to collect their empowered blood yet so close to his goal he makes a heavy decision; he attempts to consume them to gain the dark soul, the logic being that if he is successful than his blood should be dark soul-infused. When we find him he either thinks it is too soon and he doesn't have the soul yet, so he fights you for trying to stop him. He attacks you because he wants to deliver the blood to the painting himself (for all he knows you're gonna kill him and teabag him and leave his corpse to rot). Or most likely, the soul has begun to corrupt him

I imagine. For what it's worth, I got into DS because it is the closest I'm ever going to get to a HD, real-time Vagrant Story.
KF looks a good bit more primitive than VS, but I think I'd dig it. All I really ask for is monsters and NUMBERS.

Meh, that was a little much on my part, but I miss the small, tight knit community that made quality new members because of its culture. Then we got a huge flood with PtD, some people here for the HARD GAME meme and plenty just interested cool people. Problem is guess who stays and guess who leaves?

It's not rose tinted, for the purposes of saving all the images, I saved plenty of the threads. It was chill, sharing builds, a common activity was to walk through the game together and BS. Because generals on /v/ was so rare then, lots of the people who now still make up /v/ would come in and be assholes for making generals until other games started doing it a shitton.

It wasn't bad until /vg/ and even then it was still pretty solid. I remember once this fucking idiot on xbox came in asking "where's the pyro glove" and we fucked with him for a few hours and he thought we were all one person. Then someone took shit from our convo and made an op image. Hilarious stuff.

We've lost some GOOD tripfags, and thankfully lost some of the worst, most autistic ones like Sif. Over time the quality has lowered and I'm sure it was a gradual decline but every new release, new DLC and major sale it drops the bar lower noticeably.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but if you were around then vs now, there isn't a comparison. It was as bad as any other 4chan place but it had a lot more of a community feel. This place feels more like a subreddit most of the time.

KF1-3 were slow for good reason, the hardware limitations and a HUGE technical ambition. never before on a console was there an interconnected world with no loading times. the slower movement and turn speeds let the game load as you play instead of making you wait.

AC 1 and 2 are PS1-era generations and aged poorly. They're a historical curiosity that might interest you if you have the patience for an emulator and clunky control schemes
AC3s series are PS2-era and pretty solid for old mecha games. Silent Line is widely considered the weakest while Last Raven is considered the strongest. All the AC3-era games share some degree of continuity save for that one weird multiplayer-based one.

Bear in mind the story in all of these games is similarly vague like a souls game but told with early 2000s-era translations, which is to say that the english is borderline incomprehensible more than half the time.

AC4 and 4A changed the series a lot and purists hate them because of it. They play much more 'modern' and are easier to control, while also being faster-paced and more action-oriented, including what is essentially a dodge button. If you've played Bloodborne you'll find the flow of gameplay oddly familiar. These were both directed by Miyazaki and it shows. It's worth noting that despite the vague storytelling and terrible translation, 4 and 4A have by far the best plot of the series, and like souls games it's entirely miss-able if you don't pay attention to subtle cues and ask the right questions. They share a direct plot continuity, meaning much of the mysteries in 4 won't make sense until you learn the additional context provided by 4A.

V and VD try to maintain some of the modern concessions of 4 and 4A while also slowing the game down and trying to bring it back to its more tactical roots. V is questionably unsuccessful in this compromise and is quite mediocre. VD does a little better but also takes an explicit multiplayer focus and the servers are a ghost town.

Note that all of these games are very short. Outside of the time spent fiddling with massive spreadsheets of poorly-explained stats, the singleplayer plays out through a sequence of brief missions and it only takes a few hours to blast through all of them.

You can easily end up fighting two lighted-up ones (in which case just play passive until one does the hand slam), or two toxic ones (just go ham on the one you don't want to turn into the Demon Prince).
