He's not WEAK to lightning. He's got insane resistances to everything, his lightning resistances are just not quite as high as everything else. You'll do a little more damage with lightning, but it still amounts to chip damage and the fight is still a fucking slog.

I mean yeah invasions are mostly what I'm interested in because of the diversity of situations. I'm not concerned about balance so much as depth; dark souls isn't a terribly deep game competitively, but invading in PvE areas makes it very dynamic. And honestly there's an aesthetic appeal for me in the range of thematically fun builds one can play.

Lore is ludicrously complicated and makes little sense, the two different sections are almost entirely vertical, there're two swamp areas, areas where you have to run away from angels firing blessed M60s at you while you can't do shit about them (one of them being the swamp area and another being on a big ass branch above the swamp area), the bosses except for Midir are rehashes of other designs, Midir is nigh unkillable without cheese at high NG+ cycles.
But hey, the gear is pretty good, I guess.
Take from this what you will.

How specifically do you hold it for DaS? Thumb on stick, index on buttons, middle on R1 and ring on R2? Or thumb on stick, middle on R2 and index working both buttons and R1? The former feels like it's better, as that means I can roll attack and just attack and dodge at the same time better than with the latter (I'm not sure what to do with my pinky, as it isn't really providing much 'essential' grip on the controller when I do the first hold, but leaving it hanging in the air feels weird as hell).

Took a few dozen tries and several weapon swaps but i got him. Playing unlocked and dodging away from his melee, rather than into him, helped a lot with head hits.
Been awhile since i've been this glad to take a boss down, once i got the hang of it he wasn't so bad.

Yeah I think they could've solved it by staggering the miracles a bit better. When I did my fai/dex build I was pretty much pure dex and didn't even level faith at all until every single one of my other stats were levelled completely.


There should be a lesser lightning blade miracle found really early in the game with low base damage added by high multipliers for your faith stat to ensure only faith builds can take advantage of it over resins. Blessed weapon should be the mid tier between lesser and greater lightning blade and the fucking darkmoon blade should not have been locked behind 30 levels of the fuck you coveneant.

Even if the dude invading you is good you have to be asleep at the wheel to let them chew through your healing. With no summons the painting guardians go down easily so if the host tries to be clever with 15 ashen estus heal themselves they will do so and give you ample opportunity to kill their guardians, once that happens they will never have enough time to self heal again. A solo spear fight means they barely get more damage resistance/health than they normally have and get no extra poise. It's a massive mismatch.


It completely changes once you start using summons though, with 3 phantoms the spear has what feels like 90% damage resistance and infinite poise. Completely impossible to melee without getting rekt.

That's what I was thinking, except for its chest piece. The giant Dark Sign just doesn't fit.

You can run past it all, like extremely easily. The enemies don't even bother chasing you in this DLC.
Sprint through the first doorway so the "ambush" doesn't hit you and non of the other little dudes will even stand up before you're out of their aggro radius.
Just run off the broken balcony to the right of the first ringed knight while he's getting ready to do his wannabe-cool lightsaber tricks.
Obviously the clerics can't touch you if you keep moving. Near the bottom of the spiral staircase jump off (at a point where you won't take fall damage) and unless you're sprinting the ringed spear knight won't even notice you're there. If he does notice you, he doesn't even follow you out of the room.
Now here's the ONLY hard part in the entire run; when you pass the first two Harald Knights roll to i-frame their attacks. They might hit you if they chose different, slightly differently-timed attacks. If they do it doesn't matter, keep running. If you get hit by the single Harald after them you're bad.
When you get to the bottom of the stairs the 3 new Haralds will just be rising out of the mud. You'll get past them before they fully emerge, they won't even aggro to you.
The small bugs run away from you, and there's one big bug that will try and fail to attack you as you run past up the stairs to the bonfire.
This entire DLC is extremely easy to speedrun through, even when it's possible for the enemies to chase after you they just give up the chase as soon as you turn a corner.
