The Mantis set is the Be All End All of armor sers, yes. All my charm farming in Generations paid off when I can get CritEye+3, repeat offender, critboost and evasion+1 with a 2 slot weapon, or GS sets with crit draw, focus, quick sheath and crit boost.

The only conflict would be if the translation hooked onto a different patch, and you had both, but that's fixed by reintsalling a clean normal update over the patched one. Nothing in Souls is weeb crap. There are a few huge weapons, but they're generally meant to be used by 10 foot tall superhuman demigod creatures, and when you wield them they're as ungainly and encumbering as you'd expect. And there are some outright silly anime weapons like the bone fist that gives you a street fighter moveset complete with hadouken, but those are usually DLC weapons that are added for the sake of fun.
I excuse huge weapons in general with monster hunter because you're fighting huge monsters and without huge weapons it'd just be monster ankle hunter.
The charge blade, switch axe, and hunter arts are pretty damn anime though.
