G2 is fine because you have to ADS to use it at all. R97 needs the nerf. Or, more precisely, needs rolled back by one balance patch. They've buffed it twice now. The first one balanced it and the second one came for no reason and made it the cancer meta gun. If that thing just gets knocked back a peg then nothing will really overshadow anything else. Balance will be had.

Anyone having ping issues? I'll chose the closest data center with 33 ping, but when I get in game it shoots up to 600 or 1000 and often stays there for minutes. I'm not downloading torrents or anything. No idea what is going on. But I can grapple across the map and then warp back to where I started.

It was mentioned in a Reddit thread that they were trying to get feedback to give the Pilot a little more incentive to rodeo Titans and not be painted with such a giant target such as to suffer immediate Titan reprisal. It's more a Thunderbolt rebalance more than anything. The AoE is smaller and the projectile is slower, but the radiance damage hits harder and more often. You can't really longshot with the Thunderbolt anymore because no one's home. It'll be more for close-mid range PvT fights.

it can do a lot of things. for instance: with really good timing and/or aim, you can suck up a lot of, or all of, a salvo core.
ive only actually seen it once, on exoplanet. the tone fired it from one of the spawn points(not the cave, the other side) into the middle area inbetween both buildings at a titan. the player threw the gstar at the top of one of the buildings and it sucked in most of the projectiles in, saving the titan they were intended for.
ive never been able to replicate it, but not many opportunities like that present themself.

theyre pretty different. arc nade has two charges, slows players, but does not hold them, blinds titans etc. gstar is very weak against titans except niche situations like >>172514882

it does hold players, but they can still fire back while being held, or escape with shift, grapple or survive/regen it with stim. gstar also manipulates projectiles, arc nade does nothing of the sort.
they are similar in that they can disable a pilot quickly, but arc nades are more effective at doing that i think. slowed movement and inability to adjust your aim is gonna get you killed more often, seeing as only phase totally negates it.

Use the CAR or R-201. You don't want to be ADSing that much, hipfire is pretty accurate. Try and use the movement system to the best of your abilities, you always want to be moving around.

Don't use stealth eject or enhanced auto-titan on your titan loadouts, they are both dumpster tier.

Don't play Pilots vs. Pilots, Live Fire, or Last Titan Standing, you'll get wrecked.

Does /tfg/ recommend bumper jumper (pilot) for a controller? it seems like the easiest set-up to slide hop.

You have to avoid getting kited. They both have an assload of DPS, if you can pin them in place they will lose unless you play like a total retard.

Ion trapped in a corner vs scorch with a flame shield up is a dead ion. If you let them maneuver you are fucked. You don't want all scorch or legion but 1 or 2 can be nice.

Also the other point is fighting with superior numbers. If they spread themselves out to cover all lanes you can molest at least one titan then just pressure with your numbers advantage.

Also for Northstar and Ion specifically just fucking pincer them, if they can't kite you they are dead.

I recommend these, for speed tutorials. Don't sweat it if you fuck up and die, it takes some getting used to. Go for smgs until you get used to the game and feel comfortable touching other guns. Never ADS with an smg unless you're console and need the aim assist. As for music, eurobeat just makes the game feel better but that's subjective.

Ion sits in the back of the map laser shotting people. I don't know what Ions you play against that don't play this way but 100% of the ones I play against just peek around corners from far away zapping while they recharge. Unless you're very sneaky you're gonna lose more than half your health trying to close distance between Ion.

Face it your Titan is the new Tone, and Tone was only OP because her core deleted Titans, Ion legit instakills people across the map with regularity

The opportunity costs only really start to hurt if you decide to spam two shots at once. Losing 50% of your energy pool still leaves plenty of energy to use the Splitter rifle, especially if you're playing Ion correctly and using Zero-point tripwire.

The fact of the matter is that she has a long-range tool that IS hitscan, does comparable damage, has limited drawbacks if used intelligently, and is presented alongside with a smattering of really good offensive and defensive tools.

You can pull some exceptionally niche scenarios where Northstar may perform better, but Ion is better at everything else while getting unacceptably close to beating Northstar in her own domain.

Ion is my most played Titan by a long shot. The laser shot either needs a damage nerf against titans, charge time, or an energy cost increase.

I wouldn't call mobility a maximum priority, since there are tools in the game that facilitate going slow if that's your preferred style, but it definitely helps in a lot of cases.

As for Titans, no. Titans are a completely different beast from Pilots. They are effectively a force multiplier on the field. It's true that Titans are basically you but giant, but fighting as a Titan is very different from fighting as a Pilot. For one, there are six distinct Titans in TF2, each with their own personalized kits and loadouts. You can't mix-and-match gear like you could in TF1, but at least with this setup, you can more easily identify a Titan and thusly what it's capable of. For another, there's only so many places you can move as a Titan compared to a Pilot. Titans can really get moving at times, but Titan fights are more like slugfests than the lightning-fast skirmishes of Pilots. That doesn't mean you should ignore Pilots when you're in your Titan, because Pilots still pose a very real threat to you, what with rodeoing (jumping on your back to steal a battery and do some damage) and anti-Titan weapons. I won't say being in a Titan is an entirely different game, but the dynamic shifts.
