Luck is a fickle thing. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to get Kaede's limited, and I got nothing. Not even a single SSR in all my rolls, just to add salt to the wound. And I had to watch as other people bragged about getting her in two or three 10-rolls or in their daily rolls. It was hell.
Then finally I got two SSRs today, including Kanade, in one 10-roll of free jewels.

There is no pattern to Chihiro's madness. Do not trust her lies of SSR rate increases and reruns, for she will prey on your weaknesses and despair.

I FC'd this song last night and got 1.15 million with a 3 score 2 combo Tri-color team, and with the Kanade card I barely got a little more than that.
Once she gets enough fans for 10 vocal potential and if I get a bit luckier with skill activations I might be able to squeeze 2 or 3 more PRP out of songs but compared to the first Tri-colors this new kind of card is nowhere near as overpowered.

If anything, from a "mechanistic standpoint" as you say, that's the kind of shit that turns away people from games. People quit all the time from power creeps in a lot of games. And those are the kind of practices that makes the goddamn Japanese government crack down on these games as many incidents have shown in the past.

im@s relies much on the characters itself rather than the game. And character merchandise always sells. From a gameplay mechanic perspective, things are largely just cosmetic, but you drastically underestimate cosmetic purchases. Cosmetic or non-gameplay add-ons are actually a very lucrative deal.

And again, I can't stress this enough, but this is a franchise that relies on branding and character merchandising. Ultimately, a person that wants say a Kaede SSR because he is a massive KaedeP will just be as eager to drop 300 bucks as a guy who is to drop 300 bucks because he needs that shiny SSR sword to defeat that one boss and progress in his mobile game.

The former relies on personal satisfaction but the game in no way forces him to do it. While the other is actually forced into it because if he wants to continue to play the game, he needs that to overcome a particular roadblock.
