I started watching Turin to improve my microskills.

So the AI gets minor buffs to melee stats and accuracy with hard.

So perhaps you are relying too much/long on your melee line to do the work.

See them only as a way to tie up enemy units while you shock troops/cav/missiles/monsters to roll up the flanks and hit them in the ass.

Honestly the only real change between normal and legendary is how much time you have before your line breaks.

The biggest downside to toal war games is that you need to ignore the fun stuff if you want to do well. That means no watching your guys fight, no admiring your charges, no staying centered over key units. Yea, so, we couldn't force the river at the end of the day. The enemy outnumbered my missile troops by quite a bit, and they refused to be baited back across the river, and they tore up my ballisteros in a duel.

Fuck, try again in a few turns. They can't replenish so it should be ok.

This does lead me in a predicament, as I had a very small force besieging Peripginan as to keep the reinforcements from the city out of the battle, and now he has no movement points.

That's exactly how and why the Greeks came up with shield walls.

Because Khazrak is not a complete dumb as fuck animal, he's actually rather intelligent for a Beastman. He became infamous in the Empire for using actual guerilla tactics. Maybe because Khazrak is not only tenacious but a legitimate badass in his own right. His victories would probably instil loyalty in his followers, even the big mouthbreathing gorebulls would listen to his leadership because he's brought them victories and plays the long game. Say a gorebull wants to pound Todbringer into the dirt and is going crazy with bloodlust, Khazrak says "this is not allowed" and some other underlings would pry the gorebull away - maybe a group of bestigors or a bray shaman. Some of them might get smashed but the brayherd owe their loyalty to Khazrak, not the gorebull.

I read a book, I think it was Dragonlance so not the same dwarfs, but they had a reason that made sense. Hammers and axes can be used for other shit. It makes a certain kind of sense that a Dwarfen Smith would make his hammer ideal for both smithing and killing. I don't understand what were they thinking with that red radius around troops and cities. In Medieval 2 i could walk into it and thanks to that "catch" enemy armies. They couldn't move in their turn without fighting you (unless they retreated and wasted their move because of this). In Warhammer (i don't remember that from Shogun 2 or Rome 2 but i played them long time ago) my army can stand next to enemy army, and yet they will run away from you with their forced march in their turn. Its annoying, i want to fight battles in Total War not chase armies all the time. Also its sometimes difficult to place your armies next to each other to attack enemy together because you never can be sure that you walked close enough to enemy.
I think that just allowing you to walk into that red radius which will pin down enemy army would eliminate this problem.

If I have trouble with Marienburg, I tend to actually sail over and take Grossel. It's hard to get there fast, but it is a much easier target, and helps put more of a stranglehold on the Marienburgers. Worst case scenario, try and draw them out. They'll have a full stack, but you can beat their numbers with good tactics.

If you get a grail chapel, you can recruit a grail reliquae that can make your peasants less shit, and battle pilgrims are good to throw into the fray once the spearmen get engaged. Peasant archers are great, make sure to take at least two of them in any army - you're going to treat your infantry like a block for the enemy to try and hammer on, not a good offensive force, so having a lot of arrows firing into the enemy as they come really helps. Also, even Yeomen can be a Ladysend. Yeomen Archers will outrange pistolers, and Knights Errant are actually really solid on their own. You just have to be willing to baby them with microing so they don't die off - that's half of why you treat your infantry as a block. It means you have to watch over them less, and you're free to micro with cavalry and get off some charges in the rear or sides that can really break enemy units.

Also, get a Damsel. The Lore of Life really helps keep your peasants fighting, especially if you're unfortunate enough not to have a relic. Lore of Beasts isn't bad either.

I get the fundamental idea: Tough units hold the enemy, then Stabby units kill them. The most basic being a center line of shielded infantry with shock cave swooping around the flanks to hit the enemy in the back.

This just never seems to work well in practice for me, There are ranged units or other cavalry for my cavalry to fight, units get stuck on each other trying to maneuver, etc. I'd like to see a good few examples played out.

Also, is pausing a lot normal? Is there a way to make pause on a hotkey or mouse button?

That's not quite chronologically correct. I've tried it out. A lot of the karaks are retarded and have various tiny little deployment zones all over the interior of the city meaning if you have anything with vanguard deployment you can put units basically anywhere inside the enemy city while the AI, not really knowing how siege defense works without walls, sticks everything in one deployment zone rather than setting up multiple fallback points.

If you have vanguard deployment you can actually deploy in a greater percentage of the enemy city than the enemy can. Other karaks are better, but Karak Norn is just goddamn cancer.

I've been using it and I've only seen a few dwarf/greenskin maps so far and they've been pretty hit or miss. Some of them are just too big for 1v1 campaign stuff but some like Eight Peaks are just right. The AI is intelligent enough to attack from both spawn points on that map so it works pretty well
You're probably better off just trying them out yourself and cherrypicking the ones that work for you

And it's ideal if their killy units get slaughtered by your ranged units before they kill much.

Artillery & wizards usually just target the most clumped up units for the max collateral damage.

Yeah it is, battles that last 5-10 minutes on the timer usually take me 15-20 mins irl.

Bletters will be armour piercing with high weapon damage but piss easy to kill.

Mods like Steel Faith kinda tweak things into the defenders favor too. Balance isnt really the priority with these maps, its just to make attacking settlements a little less repetitive

I like using my undead in large, cheap multiple hordes. Rarely letting armies work alone. I usually have one horde with lots of tarpits and the other I ram as many horses, flying rape monsters and jumping rape monsters into and have it reinforce the horde of zombies and skelly spearman. Weirdly this is cheaper and more effective than just one turbo doom stack.

Anyway the point of this is black knights are excellent in that secondary cav stack.

Depending on your comp, but you generally want your spears meeting their charging units since they have both anti-large and anti-charge. So if my center is four spears, I will stretch three swords behind them so that my hammer can hold long enough. Then on one flank I sack up my elite units+anvil and work on crumpling that flank and then rolling down the line. On the opposite flank I will also place something like a Captain and any elite troops I can spare there since that flank has to hold up the longest. Unbreakable troops on that side are a 10/10.

First mod makes the AI infinitely harder because thye will actually go out and recruit units on par with your own.

The morale difficulty this is absolutely fucking stupid, no difficulty should increase or decrease unit stats, it completely breaks the games combat system and you get absolute stupid things like treemen able to take down entire legions of halberds.

Public order is also artificial difficulty to the max. Its still a continuous problem even on normal once Chaos starts shitting its influence everywhere, but on legendary its a flat negative all the time that is actually impossible to counter for some races like orcs and brets. So you either camp an army 24/7 meaning you have to take forever to do anything or are continuously running backwards and forwards to take down rebels. The game isnt designed with this debuff in mind to be fair.

CA doesnt give a shit about balancing the campaign so they've never fixed this stuff.

I think one of the biggest problems with TWW is how boring the map gets. Its so predictable and the factions are so set in their alliances you can actually predict the first 50 turns pretty reliably.

People who play campaign and pay attention can actually do turn orders for factions. As in you actually have a 'best possible move in this turn, and the next, and the one after' and its repeatable for every campaign you do since the AI always acts the same every time.

They need to do something to fix that up. I think CA should do some official mods that are things they couldnt put into the game officially, but people could use if they wanted to make it more fun, like a random starting location mod, or random faction alliances mod.

WH Multiplayer could be great if they put emphasis on the story building elements that made the Tabletop so great.

You start out small, units that perform great feats in battle get special bonuses, you pick a unit to add on to your army on level up(with some restrictions to prevent 19 steam tanks). You get to customize your Lord with similar options to the campaign.

Considering the only way both can work in multiplayer is unlimited funds, the guy would just pick full decked Franz, and a full decked Franz fucks a cannon line much harder than a Steam Tank line. You might kill that Franz before yours die, but Steam Tanks are unbreakable, and he will have fucked up at least 5 or 6 of your cannons.

The concept of the sieges and how autistic you can be about them is great, but in reality the AI bugs the hell out and just mills around. I played a WRE campaign map defensive siege battle, I had like 5 units and they had full two stacks. I still won from time out and killed over half of them from towers because they just milled around the walls even though they had points of entry.

Just spent 30 minutes austistically setting up my defence of Rome in a custom battle and the same thing happened, they got men on the walls and broke down the gate, but now they're just sitting around and not doing anything, have done for the last 10 minutes.

Warhammer sieges are terrible but this is unplayable, explain yourselves historyfags

If you have catapults break down walls, or send in an agent before you siege to break holes (you should always be doing this just because it gives insane exp to agents, you can get an agent from 1 to 15 in a handful of turns)

Alternatively break a line with magic and monsters if you have it, then pull through other units. Or if you have things like giants you can just punch through the lines and let them roll to the center.

A rectangle works better

No, seriously, it works amazingly well. I unintentionally found this out while playing brets. I used a rectangle shape with double lines of troops so that it would hold out for ages, then cycle charge cav into the enemy blob. But you could quite easily turn this into the perfect arty target if you had arty on your flanks hidden and ready to fire.

In fact a rectangle works so well I dont even use lines anymore, literally every army is better in a rectangle over a line.

No, they can choose from any of the 8 regular Lores of Magic and then the Lore of High Magic. They aren't able to just pick spells from whatever Lore they want. It doesn't make sense for many of them. How can they channel Waaagh! energy at any level? Why would they use spells drawing power from some of their worst enemies like the Lore of Tzeentch or Skaven Spells of Plague?

Dedicated flanking units will still flank, like dogs and some cav units. But that 'flanking' just means hitting a slightly lower part of the doomtangle

Once engaged the AI is also pretty stupid when it comes to disengaging for new targets.

Just make sure you keep your troops on guard mode, or the whole thing breaks apart the moment the enemy retreats

Two different types of artillery m8.

Mortars are meant to hit infantry blobs. The Luminark of Hysh is basically an anti-large sniper rifle. Its got slow reload but you can take out large units or genera snipe with it and take out about 50% of their health in a single shot.

It's almost a guaranteed hit unless there's terrain blocking the shot or you're up against a human who will likely start moving their general or unit out of the way. Still, the tracking tends to get a hit regardless.

The lower your target is to the ground, the higher your chances are off the shot hitting something you don't want it to. But against Giants, Flying mounts, Spideys, Treemen, etc. You're gonna fuck 'em up.

throughout the entirety of my hun campaign, land, naval onagers are probably the number 1 cause of death for my horse archers due to their range + how absurdly accurate they are in attila. Taking them out is my 1st priority in any battle
