Another poster thought of the theory in the last thread and I think they're right. Chloe wanted Max to be with Warren the entire time.

Throughout the game, Max keeps returning to the lighthouse. In her first vision, she's led by the spiritual doe, which guides her throughout her visions. I think it was wrong because Chloe would rather hear a harsh truth than sweet lies, but Rachel decided to try to keep Chloe happy in some way.
Rachel's letter says she wanted to tell Chloe the truth but didn't think she could handle it. Again, arguably the wrong way to handle things but

Rachel felt it was the best choice because if she did something that broke the link between herself and Chloe, that leaves Chloe alone and hurt.
Rachel did want to be loved by a lot of people, and wanted attention, but she also wanted to see Chloe happy. They were friends and in Rachel's mind her lies were preserving that.
Chloe and Rachel were never going to work out romantically, but with a discussion and apologies they could go on being good friends.

Rachel's wildness and Chloe's loneliness/realization of her own sexuality created an unspoken tension. Much in the way Max and Warren had at the start of the game. Something that would never work, but nobody wanted to take the first step of asking/denying.

What should have happened if Rachel was found alive was Chloe chewing Rachel out for lying.

Nightmares can be a real struggle fora character and serve as a conflict. At time's I've thought out scenes of Chloe having a prolonged nightmare like Max went through.

Telling her she may have made mistakes but she's learned from them and is doing better, Rachel says she's proud of Chloe and sorry for how things turned out between them, that they never were going to work out and she should have been honest.

Chloe wakes up next to Max, feeling scared at what she saw but also a sense of peace. She rolls over and cuddles up to Max, who wakes up for a second and returns the cuddle. Chloe whispers how much she loves Max and they both fall asleep to have more pleasant dreams.
They can discuss what Chloe saw in the morning.

It's al shame is we couldn't make Max find a photo from right after she got to Seattle, go into it, and then text Chloe a simple "Hey. I'm sorry I had to leave, if you ever want to talk then call me. We WILL see each other again."
So they kept in touch in some way during those years.

Nice, I saw them in concert down in London, they aren't the best band to watch live, but the band that opened for them, called Accept, were fucking amazing to see live.
