What created the intense backlash against it, so much of the buzz around it was positive before it leaked. What was good about it or that it did well?

I avoided it due to finals and other games but I need a handheld game and want to pick it up now that it's been a while. I absolutely loved SMT4 despite its flaws and it might be my favorite. Battle system and world just gel super well with me. IF one thing had to be made better I'd say the dungeons for sure. Does that happen in SMT4:A?
