I'm clearing through Chalice Dungeons for the first time, i have a few questions

Root Chalices are just randomised versions of the same difficulty as their chalice, and sometimes have different versions of weapons with alternate gem slots right?

Is there any point doing them, outside of these alternate weapons?

I'm interested in looking for the very best gems, which i hear come from Depth 5 Chalices - do you have to do the 'Root' Chalices to find these gems, or are they in the regular ones? Is this something to do with the fact that you can only 'Curse' Root Chalices with the materials? So the best gems only drop in cursed Chalices, requiring me to do Root ones to collect them?

Will i miss out on any bosses by not doing the Root Chalices? I want to at least beat every boss in the game once.

Ok thanks, so basically, aside from if i need any alternate weapons, there's not a lot of point doing them for the 'experience' so to speak and i should only bother doing Specific Depth 5 Cursed ones for Gems?

Not just alternate weapons. Runes as well. But yes, the best chalice gems from Depth 5 FRC dungeons.
As for the BoM/BB build, go with either 25/50 STR/SKL, or 50 SKL with three 27.2% physical Tempering gems. Use an Uncanny Burial Blade, and whichever BoM version has Radial/Radial/Triangle.
Get the 27.2% Radial gems from an FRC Ihyll glyph with Merciless Watchers, and the 27.2% Triangle gems from an FRC Isz glyph with the same boss. No Waning because Merciless Watchers don't appear in Loran, so you can't get 27.2% Waning gems outside of offshapes.

I just kept my STR at 10. I wanted 50 Vit, 15 Arcane. So I'm 50/14/10/50/10/15 - i wanted to stay at level 99

Yes, it's 20% and it comes from a Lower Loran glyph. I don't remember the glyph exactly, but you can find it in the OP. The Uncanny Burial Blade comes from a Sinister Lower Loran root, also in the OP.

DeS is overall mechanically closest to Bloodborne but the combat is pretty primitive in DeS. Fucking love forbidden woods for how comfy it is. Just the presence of the forest, a lot of overgrown buildings, you can see Byrgenwerth in the distance and so on.... a veritable dream come true.

Another comfy as fuck location is Cainhurst. Just comfy as fuck to look in the distance and see the huge manor of Hemwick out in the distance with the lights dotting the coastline and even further out you can see Yharnam.

Oh yes, I fucking love the slightly rainy weather and the ominous looking sun. It felt like a really nice contrast after the really dark base game. I also love coast areas in videogames and irl so I love Yharnam in general and how it's kinda based around a coastal region and you can see a sea/a huge lake in any instances and there's a lot of spatial awareness in terms of how the land is overall laid out.

This area is insanely comfy.
In general Bloodborne's setting is just so damn comfy. I love the contrast of safety/danger Bloodborne's setting has going on : Yharnam is pretty royally fucked with the beast scourge but in the first part of the night it seems that this isn't anything out of the ordinary, really. I mean, the citizenry has locked themselves within their homes but it feels like they're optimistic and they knew gow to prepare for it, with the incense,the lamps outside and all that.

The setting feels like it's grounded in it's own reality and the impetus for the action feels 'plausible' and relatable, you're essentially just an outside-hired hunter to clean up the mess others have left behind. There are other hunters, the citizens interact with you in various ways and in general Yharnam feels 'alive' in the way the Souls games' settings never did.

Souls (and especially Dark Souls 3) tries to do 'dark' fantasy by painting all these apocalyptic images and being really overbearing with all the destruction and to a degree it works, but I personally think that giving the contrast of normalcy to the fucked up works better in transmitting the fact that something is fucked up to the player. The way the NPCs comment on things going on in the game world and for example my favorite is the interaction with the prostitute and her neighbor. The interaction isn't very deep but it's there.

BB is better alone or coop?

What I mean is :

In DeS the shit hitting the fan is relatively recent, there are still kinda fresh horse carcasses strewn everywhere and there's a sense of there still being sane humans around whom you feel compelled to protect. The situation is dire but not completely hopeless and the NPCs reflect the events in the world with convincing dialogue. There's a degree of relatable normalcy to contrast the fucked up happenings with.

In DaS1 the 'shit' already kind of happened maybe like hundreds of years ago and you're arriving in the aftermath late enough thay everybody in Lordran who was 'normal' was gone, but a sense of normalcy in the rest of the world is being transmitted via lore of the outside world.

DaS2 seemed like it couldn't decide what it was supposed to be since it feels like the world went into shit reasonably recently but due to the weird storytelling it's hard to figure out. Still, some scenes like the war against the giants was cool to see aa it happened.

In DS3 the world went irreparably into the shitter hundreds of years or millennias ago and nobody gives a shit anymore because either everything is fucked up or will be soon. There's no real clear timeline of anything honestly.

In BB the 'shit' in the base game is ongoing : Yharnam isn't totally ruined when you start the game : people are still optimistic about the future. And as you talk to people after events have taken place, often they have something new to say. I was so fucking disappointed to learn that absolutely noone commented on the dark souls 3 darrksign on the sky. BB is great by being light on commentary but still put effort into voice acting and how their commentary changed after the moon clocks another phase.

It's aliens. Straight up space aliens from another dimension. The old blood Byrgenwerth discovered back in the day is ultimately of alien origin. It's not that the Great Ones are good or evil, they're beyond our notions of that, their existence is simply incompatible with human life and jamming alien blood into your veins fucks you up. Church are stubborn theocratic dumbasses and think it'll be fine, higher ups continue to run this nonsense to ascend humanity by calling down aliens not realizing that shit just doesn't work together. The Hunter's Dream is part of the Nightmare, a real place, an alien dimension. The Frontier and Mensis are part of it, too, as are all the DLC areas. It's all layered in weird space.

Flat Arc is bad for HMS unless you were Twinking, Nourishing is the way to go. Both require getting to FRC, so it'll be a while. You could use the 15% Nourishing Radial in Mergo's, iirc there's a 9% Triangle in the swamp behind the clinic. Either use another Phys gem or the 18% Arc droplet in Mergo's for the 3rd slot.

You can see Mensis in the background of Frontier, and Hamlet under Frontier, however, in the Hamlet, you can see the Hunter's Nightmare literally under the water. Dream is under it all because everything is 'Awaken Above Ground'. A snailgirl falls from the SKY in the Hunter's Nightmare, but for her, it would have been water. And remember, the sky and cosmos are one.

As a new player, I feel like gem farming push people away from trying PvP. I don't even know if I'll like the PvP, I don't want to waste an absurd amount of time gem farming. I prefer the Dark Souls way, you just fully upgrade your weapon and met a level, there's no big barrier that will make other players just stomp you.

Of course that's just my opinion.

I agree that it's a barrier, especially to those who aren't really interested to begin with. But I'd counter that while I've never been interested in the souls games for pvp, when I finished my first character I went all the way to frcs and then farmed some basic physical gems in about an hour then pvped and fell in love with BB's pvp because the gems speed up the pace so much.
It's not ideal at all, but once you break the barrier you're rewarded with a better experience.

Queen Yharman, so I guess I should have all the farming spots I need to start farming 27% gems. I'll also probably need the Tier 3 Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise Runes, I would imagine.
