It plays quite differently from Kamui and I like it more than Kamui
Though not sure if I should recommend it, because I don't know what you didn't like in Kamui

I like the shield mechanics, it's kinda fun. I like visuals more than in Kamui. One thing is a bit retarded about this game though, there is no life system. You get six hits for stage 1-4, six hits for stages 5-6, and stages 7-8 are one hit game over (though the game is relatively easy survival-wise, unless you make a stupid slip).
>>
>>171968592
>I like the shield mechanics
i liked judgement silversword
>>
>>171968651
I haven't played Judgement Silversword but from what I can find, they have somewhat different mechanics

Basically in RefleX there are some projectile types that can either be canceled or reflected while your shield is up, and the only way to (temporary) raise your multiplier is to kill enemies with reflected shots, and your normal shot hits give you score/prolong your multiplier. So this game wants you to actively run into enemy fire.

I always preferred Kamui and Alltynex 2nd over RefleX. Those are all about attacking with multiple weapon systems 24/7 while RefleX is a hold shield to kill everything affair. It would have been lots better if mechanics like photon burst were available in the early stages.

>>
>>172013541
Eh, I found lock-on system in Kamui tedious, and it's like the primary weapon when playing for score
Beam weapon is cool but the game punishes you by draining your lightning meter with it, so it's kinda frowned upon mechanically

I haven't played Alltynex 2nd much but I think it does a much better job with multi-weapon system than Kamui

Note that OBS version used on that guide is Classic, not OBS Studio.
>>
>>172020884
It's simply a matter of choosing safety (bullet cancel and enemies dying faster) over additional score. Have you tried hard mode? It's one hell of a rollercoaster.
>>
>>172013541
Well Alltynex Second is more like use sword to kill everything. It's a shame because mechanically the game is awesome but so many of the bosses and tougher enemies just boil down to getting close and slashing with no interesting uses of the game's various weapons in sight. Reflex is more limited but the design is also much tighter.
>>
>>172021827
I feel that those systems are still more fun to use since they require precise movement and timing to get good results, and they don't make you invincible. With sufficient skill you can weave through bullet patterns without restorting to bullet cancel.
Meanwhile in RefleX you hold down a button when the devs want you to bypass bullets and press shoot when missiles come. I honestly think that every stage except the last two are dull as hell.
>>
>>172022293
The shield requires precise movement and timing to optimize the damage you do, if you use it purely defensively it will take ages to kill anything. Weaving through bullets in AS is kinda pointless outside of playing for score, there's not too much precision since the arc of the sword is massive and the timing element is minimal since it's pretty easy to tell which attacks are unsafe and once you're right near an enemy/boss you'll generally stay in once place until they die or change phase.
>>
Reflex is cool, and the gimmick is innovative I think, however I do agree that it somewhat lacks another sub weapon.
It feels like the devs just experimented with this bullet reflect gimmick but didn't think it was worth to put much effort into the game.
It's just too simple. I prefer games with more weapons, like main shot + sub weapon + smartbomb/burst. At best they also give you different option types to chose from. Reflex however feels a bit lack luster.
>>
Or also different ships to chose from. Reflex doesn't have anything like this.
>>
>>172021309
Yeah I've tried both Menace and Mass Production Ship, I'm not really good enough to bother with those
I've cleared the game on Normal but my score is superbad, I could double it just by getting better at survival (basically by not rushing through Alltynex Core and Adjudicator, I think WR-tier scores get about 13 mil on these two bosses alone), but I kinda moved on to other games for now, because I don't like holding the lock-on button

>>172022293
I kinda agree that shield makes the game more passive but I think skill ceiling for it is very high

Game still punishes you for holding shield by draining your main gun with it (for a brief second, but it still may have an impact), and in general game wants you to use both main gun and shield, not to just spam your shield, because you don't get any score for reflected hits (only kills), but main gun nets you score for every hit (though very little score). Also reflecting shots to get highest multiplier and keeping the multiplier up is kinda tricky, but it's only valid when playing for score.
>>
>>172022936
Well, there's ZODIAC version of player's ship, but for some reason it's unavailable in the arcade mode and only marginally different (just more risk/reward)
>>
The biggest issue I also had with Kamui was, that it was so difficult to tell wether an enemy is in the background or not. I never was quite sure when to use lock-on or not. Probably also because the resolution of the game is just horrible.

Soukyugurentai did the lock-on system much better, mainly because you could lock-on to everything there, not just background enemies.

Overall I still think Kamui is Siter Skains best game though.
>>
>>172022851
imo they just focused on scoring more than in the other two games, the shield has a fuckton of depth once the direction of the shots you reflect becomes important, it'd be nice if using the shield deliberately was extremely important for survival
>>
>>172020884>>172020898
thanks but i don't think my toaster with 2gb ram is enough to stream, just leaving OBS open while i was watching a youtube tutorial was enough for bluescreen.
>>
>>172023389
Hardware is important for the performance but you're not supposed to get blue screen if you don't have good enough hardware, you'll get frame skips or sound desync
That might have something to do with the gpu drivers maybe
Web browser probably uses hardware accelerated decoding for YT, while OBS might use hardware accelerated encoding, so something blew up
>>
>>172023330
You also can focus on scoring with more weapon types.
Look at CCWI... The game has a shitton of different attack ways, main shot/focus-shot, lock-on, lock-on spam, break mode mode, double break mode, smart bomb, point-planking, bullet cancelling, different ship types, etc. Yet the game still has very deep scoring system.

Reflex is just too simple.
>>
>>172023652
Well, in Kamui scoring is literally using lock on almost exclusively, to the point where background enemies take precedence. Beam is reduced to a survival tool.

I like the gimmick with locking on falling ships, but it's as deep as Kamui's scoring system goes.

Not arguing against CCWI having a better scoring system though, but it was a Siter Skain games comparison originally.

>>172023652
You can, but in this specific case most of the depth of the shield is only revealed when you score. As far as depth goes the shield in Reflex is way more deep than any one mechanic in AS or Kamui. If they gave you more reason to precisely reflect when playing for survival it wouldn't be any less engaging than the other two games since you'd still be making constant decisions on how to best use the shield instead of making decisions on which weapon to use.
>>
>>172024105
>Kamui scoring is literally using lock on almost exclusively
That's not true. You still have to use main shot and beam a lot. Wether for survival or scoring.
Sure, for score you always try to get as many background enemies as possible, but you have to kill all enemies to get a really good score.
>>
>>172024478
Most of the depth in these games is mostly revealed only when playing for score.
And it's bullshit to say that the lock-on in kamui would have less depth.
Being able to always get full lock-ons also has lots of depth.

I just think the game could need another weapon type. Perhaps some kind of hyper mode where you suck up all bullets on screen and reflect them at the enemy. Just anything.
>>
>>172025336
It does have less depth, if only just because it integrates player positioning less than the shield does. Not that it means the game itself is less deep. You're right though another weapon type wouldn't hurt.

If you do smart rank control Boost should be a significantly easier survival clear than Original. The important thing is to plan your bombs and use them primarily for rank control to keep the bullet speed low and enemy patterns predictable rather than as a survival reaction, good points to rank bomb are after destroying a boss or a midboss or during otherwise bad stage sections such as the Stage 5 end parts. For survival the only downside of using a bomb is having the bomb line move further on the break gauge, but the line gradually returns to its position by re-entering break mode and spending a little time without bombing so you can still keep doing rank control bombs without a problem as long as you're not constanly holding down the bomb button.

Is there any way to play CCWI without it feeling like my finger on the lock on button is going to fall off? Constantly locking on the entire run is what puts me off from playing it more. I play on a pad and use Triangle for shot, Circle for break/bomb and L1 for lock on. Anyone know a comfortable config for pad or should I just play it on a stick? (already have one).
>>
>>172031705

>>
>>172031748
You could put shot on L1 and lock-on on Triangle to spam the lock-on with your thumb instead of your index finger.
>>
>>172031816
I don't know why I never thought of putting show on a shoulder button, I'll give it a shot and if it doesn't work out just play on stick.

Well it's not as polished as DBCS and doesn't have as many ships, but it's essentially the same game. Sometimes, especially in boss battles, the game slows down immensely. But it's cool, and it has different endings than the versions after it, so if nothing else it's worth playing for those at least, I think.
Sadly there's no English version of it though, so you'd probably have to look up a translation for the endings anyway.

If you want to clear it, you're going to have to go balls deep anyway. If a simpler game is more fun to you, I'd start with that one, but there's nothing stopping you from jumping straight into MF.Ultra and making that your first clear but your willingness to keep at it until you clear it.
>>
>>172169932
The games you listed are very different from eachother. Danmaku Unlimited 3 features stage long chain grazing and difficult bosses. Mushihimesama is what I would call traditional. Ikaruga is weird and not very popular around here, you'll find a lot of people that don't like it but there are some ardent supporters. The polarity mechanic is a big part of the game and so killing enemies in specific color order combinations. All of these games have easy or novice difficulty options.

Playing Perfect Cherry Blossom, first time with Touhou but light bullet hell experience. I'm currently playing on Hard, 3 hits, without using continues. Not generally making it past the second boss. Should I just keep grinding my face against it the way I have been? Start using continues just to see more of the game? Drop the difficulty? I'd like to be able to play on Lunatic eventually - if Normal will actually be helpful I'd be willing to drop it, but I'm used to games where Normal doesn't even begin to prepare you for harder stuff.

Don't start yourself on Hard, Normal is a good place to start. From there you'll be able to work your way up to Hard and eventually Lunatic, it just takes time and practice.

Normal is legitimitely the standard difficulty the games are designed around, with exra stages being somewhere between normal and hard in difficulty. Only easy mode will really handicap you for improving later on.

I like all kinds of unconventional runs. Double play, no-bomb, or also things like clearing Radiant Silvergun with sword only.
>>
>>172226138
it can be a decent survivalchallenge, especially in games like Touhou that give notoriously many resources, so it's a decent stepping stone before starting to score, since a shitclear wont prepare you for that at all.
In games with already sparse resources it doesnt seem to make much sense to do that instead of scoring right away though.

by the way, that wasn't meant as a slur

there are people on the farm with decades in shoot em ups that can't even 1all DDP while people like banana and jaimers just rip from game to game and dominate the leaderboards

I honestly think shoot em ups are the most genetics based games next to arena shooters, RTS, and fighting

I kidna figured out it a bit but it's still somewhat hard, mostly because in every formation they seem to be waaay outside of my hitbox

Reverse formation seems to work find more or less though, by moving backwards it places one ship directly in front of you and another behind you

Also I'm still not sure how does pickup system work
Okay so sub-weapons double as a shield too, and picking up same subweapon twice in a row increases subweapon power
Small colored tubes sometimes give extra option ships, sometimes give more firepower for primary gun, but I don't understand how it works
And there's a speed meter on the screen but I haven't seen anything that would affect it

>Just make a good game
Is a bit ridiculous. Sure it's not hard to get basic rules right, but it'll be just a mediocre game. Original design decisions is why people play different games instead of one, and it's not really a textbook material and something one can nail on first try.

Wrong. People play games if they are good, simple as that. You don't have to be original. There are umpteens of shmups which are not really original, but still very good (CCWI, KAMUI, etc).

And making a good shmup is actually not even that hard. It just takes a lot of time.

>>172343274
>Why Blue Revolver didn't sell well?
Shmups in general don't sell well, and Blue Revolver was pretty unpolished. It was just another pixel shit kusoge. If the devs would have put more effort into the game then it could have been really good, but you really could see that they didn't polish very well.

I wonder why the Deathsmiles Extra stage is called Canyon. It doesn't seem like a canyon. The first portion seems to be flying up the side of a mountain, then reaching the top and descending into a cave area. Unless maybe the inside of the cave is supposed to be the "canyon" somehow...

I'd actually like to know people's perspectives on this too. There are the obvious things like balancing patterns to be dodgeable instead of using health bars as a band aid, not fucking around with basic movement by adding acceleration, keeping popcorn enemy health extremely low and putting them all over the place to keep the pace up. But then there's also more subtle elements that I don't really think about much when playing like having certain enemies enter and exit the screen in roughly the same areas instead of floating all over the place and blocking your movement. Makes me wonder what other kind of more subtle elements I'm missing.

Things Sine Mora does wrong:
>cutscenes out of the ass
>low player firepower
>unbalanced special weapons (some are useless compared to others)
>very slow gameplay even for an R-Type like game (way too cinematic)
>bullets blend with the background
>stupid time mechanic, where you die just because the game is running so horribly slow and you can't reach the next checkpoint
>game is way too long
>most parts are ridiculously easy, while others are completely unfair
>no replay function (total must for shmups)
>etc

Such things are not only exclusive for euroshmups though. Games like R-Type Final, or Gradius V also have similar problems, but still manage to be good anyway.
>>
>>172430560
Yeah low player firepower is the most antifun thing imaginable in shmups. Another thing that pissed me off is how unclear the boss weak points were, how tiny the hitboxes of turrets and such are and how awkard some of the placement is.

why don't most of the people that want to make shmups actually play them? "hey guys what should i not do ina shmup?" at least clover-tac played games before making one.
>>
>>172437853
To be honest I think it is because there is a certain 'appeal' to the perceived 'easiness' of making a shmup. In fact scrolling shooters are among the list of "what kind of games should I make in order to learn how to make games" along with pong, tetris and eventually a platformer.

Of course even though getting the base down is easy the hard part is polish and gimmicks. So it could be reasoned that most people asking about what to put in a shmup probably don't play them but are attracted to how 'easy' it is to make one not taking into account how hard it is to make it good/fun.
>>
>>172437853
Yea, it is very appealing to devs how "easy" arcade games are to develope.
They are basically pretty simple to make, because they are a very pure form of video games, arguably the purest of them.
However, since they don't play them, they have no idea what actually makes them fun.
That's also for example why devs put retarded shit like randomly spawned enemies into them, because it is easier to make and more appealing for the casual, instead of painstakingly placing them by hand.
>>
>>172437853
What based on this thread? I play shmups all the time, doesn't mean other people's thoughts on how they're structured aren't valuable. Generally? Most devs don't play games nearly as much as they should. With shmups it's just more noticable because they're a very technical niche genre with a dedicated fanbase.

As much as people seem to hate the concept of "the ideas guy", it sounds like having one around would be beneficial to a development team. Someone who spends their time playing games, realizing what makes them fun, and knows how to create good stage design and mechanics.

But then, I guess there's no real way to separate the good ideas from the bad... but it sounds better than being made by a bunch of people who barely play games to begin with wait a minute I just thought of video game journalism for some reason
>>
>>172439996
it made me think of /v/ and the farm. people that don't play games and spend a lot of time thinking about them.

>>172439996
In the situation where the "idea guy" is actually designing stages/content and planning stuff out they aren't an "idea guy" they are a game designer. Idea guys do just that. They throw ideas out there without regard of scope or plausibility. They have no skills other than dreaming big and they almost certainly do not actually do research.
>>
>>172440291
This. They're the kind of people that you'd hear saying "it's like dark souls mixed with megaman" without any clear plans or any understanding of how to actually implement their vague dumb ideas that came to them when they were taking a dump. Proper game designers are actually good and they're often skilled enough to make a prototype.

I can't put one over the other exactly, I like the concept and the final. I will say that this final seems to mesh better with Casper than the original concept. In fact, that first concept art kinda makes me wonder if, originally, Casper didn't exist and Windia was supposed to be more Casper-like, but then they spawned Casper out of her and made Windia a more naive/reserved character.

I also want to say that the second concept art (with the gloves and blue frills) looks kinda stupid. I'm not sure what they were thinking with that outfit design. Also, red eyes > blue eyes (on Windia).

Indeed, shmups are the least demanding genre in terms of programming, with only real "technical problem" being simple collision detection. Even simple platfomers usually deal with way more math (multiple collision types, impact solving, slope mechanics, etc.), that's why shmups are so alluring to develop.

I'd pick it up myself, though rigorous playtesting of your own stages and patterns over and over again doesn't sound like much fun. And I'm no Jaimers, so it won't really mean much without feedback from better players, so you'll kinda waste their time too. Plus it's one of the oldest genres so it's been done to death and the bar for good design is set very very high.

It has the strongest shot, but shitty spread, shitty lock-ons, and the speed can be difficult to handle.

Matter of preference I guess. For scoring it's shit though.
>>
>>172547413
I've never played anything like CC or DoDonPachi, how much more difficult they are than Siter Skain/Astro Port games? All Siter Skain games have bullet cancels that aren't bombs, plus there's just so much shit on the screen in CCWI. In comparison to the games I've played, it looks pretty intimidating.
>>
>>172557021
Just play them and find it out yourself.
You can clear CCWI on original in 50-100 hours I guess.
Astro Port games also can be hard. Wolflame especially was pretty deadly on hard mode.
>>
>>172557021
The first Dodonpachi is a bit harder than Siter Skain games, Daioujou is a lot harder, took me two times longer to get a 1-ALL once than it took me to get consistent at hard mode Kamui and Alltynex Second. CCWI is probably much tougher than DOJ too.
>>
>>172557021
Should probably mention that Dodonpachi is only easy because it gives you a fuck ton of bombs to work with, if not for that it'd be pretty close to DOJ.

What makes CCWI so hard? Does it have a laser wheels/some part that ramps up the difficulty? I've played it for 2 hours and am getting to the stage 3 shmup snakes. Nothing about it seems so difficult about it yet.

The last stage with its endbosses is pretty tough. However you still can use Type Z which makes it significantly easier.

Do you like short resumes at the end of a stage, perhaps with a nice background drawing, or do you prefer no break between stages like in Garegga?
>>

I like short pauses because it gives you a moment or two to pause, stretch, and catch your breath if needed. Having a little fanfare that plays during the score tallying is also satisfying and calming in a way.

Yeah, basically. Good feedback is done by good sound effects and explosions. That's pretty much all there is to it. The screen-shaking is just annoying, fucks up the smoothness of the game and it makes focusing on the action harder. These effects should be telling you that you're doing well, but the effect is the opposite.

It really depends. No breaks works in Garegga because the first parts of each stage require very little, which functions as a break. In games that immediately require action, having no break would be stressful.

While taste is subjective, I would argue that DoDonPachi, DaiOuJou, and Ketsui are great. There's almost always action on the screen, the scoring system adds to the game, rather than just being tacked on, and I think they just feel great to play, as with Garegga, Ikaruga, Darius Gaiden, etc.

is it peculiar at all that I find DDP harder than DOJ, at least first loop survival anyway?

in DOJ you can basically play going just off reflexes (which is what I do)

but DDP requires routing, especially in stage 5/6, and stage 5/6 of first loop DDP are way harder than stage 4/5 of DOJ

you also get an extend on stage 4 in DOJ

what's this meme that doj is harder? second loop, yes, but first loop survival, no way

I can clear DDP consistently and I still don't have any routes for most of stage 5. I do have some routes for stage 6 but end up bombing through it anyway. DOJ also has way harder bosses
>>
>>172557021
if we are speaking about only survival(or kusoscoring), from my observations, arcade games tend to have easy first stages, then get brutal from stage 3-4 with last stage requiring strict routing or a lot of resources to simply get a survival clear, often both. on the other hand doujins increase difficulty more gradually, so stage 2-3 can be quite hard on insane difficulty, yet last stage won't feel that much harder than the rest of the game, doujins also give you a lot more resources to work with, extends, bombs etc. so if you just want to survive clearing something like Satazius insane will be more achievable than kusoclear of CCWI or 2-all of DonDonPachi. serious scoring is a different matter, i'm not experienced enough to talk about it, but i think it's equally hard both in arcade and doujins.

In Satazius scoring is more or less tied to survival.
You get most score for a clear without getting hit for the whole game. if you die in a stage, unless it's the very beginning, you lose 10-star bonus for that stage, which probably yields almost as much as the stage itself. Plus unused lives and pickups give you nice score too.
>>

Depends on the game. In CCWI novice is a waste of time, at least if you actually want to play arcade.
>>
>>172624790
>what's ur opinion on scoring in normal/novice?
novice waste of time imo normal however depends, in mushi futari for example normal would mean original mode and getting top tier scores in that is equally if not more so difficult than any other mode. You basically need the same level of precision as in ultra but with rocket bullets and perfect memory recollection placement before anythings even appeared yet. It's even more extreme again in black label and original 1.5max.

i too feel like getting used to scoring on easier difficulties is helpful, since on high difficulty you'll be too busy not dying, adding scoring to the mix will just make progress frustratingly slow(say goodbye to that ccwi clear), but ignoring scoring just feels wrong(maybe i just got tired of survival), so you are stuck playing first few levels for a very long time.
>and i definitely do not agree novice ccwi is waste of time
survival wise it kinda is, way too easy even for new players, but beating top score on online leaderboard certainly won't be easy, maybe even harder than getting a kusoclear of original.

When I first started playing I 1cc'd CCWI for my first game in 4-5 hours with Type-Z. I never touched that game again but did play other shmups. A year later I came back and played CCWI novice with Type-I and 1cc'd in a single try without any difficulty. I don't think CCWI novice made me a better player, but it was a nice way to see progression in a genre where it is sometimes hard to notice.

I got like top 10 scores for every ship within 20 hrs of play, it's not a waste depending on your level i guess.

What is a good shield mechanic for a shmup.
I'm trying to make a shmup with bullet eating shield, like Grid Seeker or Ikaruga, but I can't think of anything original to make it different.

it ping pongs bullets back, increasing hitbox size and speed, bosses and certain large enemies can do this too and each return compounds it.

I was already thinking of something similar myself. Basically a mix between a shmup and a pinball game.
But I don't think this would be good design for a shmup. I rather wanted to make a bullet eater shmup, where the bullets function as power ups fuck regular power-ups, they annoy me to death

A sticky shield that collects bullets when they hit you. As soon as at least one bullet is caught it starts charging up, and if you release the shield it spits them out. The final phase she uses on Level 3? I don't really know how to dodge it because I never really have to deal with it. If you start point-blanking her immediately after she starts to transition into her final phase, you can damage her enough to not have to really dodge anything. Point-blank her until she starts using bullets, then back away slowly as necessary and you should be able to finish her before any of the big purple orbs come out. This method definitely works for Casper and Follett, and I assume it would work for the other two as well.
>>
The best idea I could come up with so far is to let the player actually decide what he wants to power-up with the collected bullets. Kinda like Gradius where you can decide between multiple things like speed, main shot, subweapon, shield, etc. However, I am not sure how to let the player decide without breaking the game flow.
>>
>>172652105
it's one of her earlier attacks and it appears on level 2 and 3. it's several fucking big orbs only a few can even fit on the screen.
>>
>>172652294
button combinations? the average person has at least a 6 button pad nowadays, hold down a dedicated powerup button and then press another to spend it on that specified upgrade.

Ooh, that. Just get back to the left side of the screen. As the orbs fly out, they start to spread apart, and by the time they reach the left side, there'll be small gaps between the orbs you can fit through, particularly in the bottom left side of the screen I think.
>>
>>172652819
Yea, I think this would be the best, but many people actually seem to dislike shmups with too many buttons.
Mostly shmups only have about 3 buttons, not exactly sure why.
>>
>>172651956
Good design doesn't come from the concept of a gimmick but how you implement it, and it's not that weird Mars Matrix' vortex shield thing is kinda similar
>>
>>172653120
Of course execution is also very important but to say that the design idea is irrelevant is just stupid.
>>
>>172653492
You can build good games around stupid design ideas, just look at Zangeki Warp on paper it sounds obnoxious as hell
>>
>>172651956
Seriously, it's hard to tell if design is good or bad until it's implemented, either in some other game or by you
Make different prototypes and playtest them
>>
>>172653890
>just look at Zangeki Warp on paper it sounds obnoxious as hell
No, it doesn't? It sounds exactly like it is in game. A neat unique mechanic which has a big flaw though (breaking game flow).
It's a cool unique game, but it's also annoying that you constantly have to stop time.

>>172653957
Bullshit. If you have good imagination you can imagine yourself how it would be if implemented.
>>
>>172654702
It sounds like a flow breaking, abusable mechanic that removes depth from positioning, and it kinda is but it's not a problem because the game's level design and pace is enough to compensate for that
>>
>>172655947
Have you actually played the game? I played it for score on the hardest difficulty, and it is exactly how you described. A flow breaking abusable mechanic. The game becomes very easy with shockwave upgraded and it's really annoying after a while to play because everything takes so fucking long when you constantly stop time.

It's still a neat game, but the mechanic definitely has its flaws.
>>
>>172657464
>everything takes so fucking long
This is how I feel about CCWI stage 3 boss. Boring!
>>
>>172657464
That's exactly what I'm saying, after hearing about the gimmick and even seeing it in action I was like "wow this looks and sounds retarded" but after experiencing it in action firsthand it's quite fun to do
>>
>>172657915
It look and sound retarded though. It just sounds like a cool gimmick which has its obvious flaws.
>>
>>172658126
*it does not look and sound retard
>>
>>172658126
I don't think a gimmick that has big obvious glaring flaws can be called cool tbqh. Anyway forget it kraut this discussion's pointless nitpicking to begin with. I will say that from my own experience in making games trying out flawed ideas in practice can be surprisingly effective if only by giving you ideas on how to improve them or discard the negatives while combining the positives with a new idea. Especially if your goal is making it intuitive.
>>
>>172659064
>I don't think a gimmick that has big obvious glaring flaws can be called cool tbqh.
Of course it can. No game is perfect. Everything has flaws. Even if the game has a bigger flaw, it still can be cool.

To me, Zangeki Warp is one of these more experimental games, which have their rough edges, but can still be interesting. Similar to Reflex, which was also what I was thinking about when someone mentioned "sticky shield". It's also a cool game, but not the best shield mechanic. It's a bit weird to play imo.
