I feel bad for hammer users honestly. At first they had their own cool and unique gimmick and then it got stomped on. The only real way to save hammer would be to redesign its moveset into something more viable for more constant DPS. You can keep the charge gimmick, but there needs to be something more than superpound all day.

I'm not sure I understand. Most of your time will be spent using charge attacks. If it's an older MH, it's the super pound. If it's Gen, I suppose it's the uppercut. I don't really play hammer that much. The golf swing requires you to either get really lucky since it roots the shit out of you or the monster is stunned for whatever reason. Even in that scenario, some of the HA for hammer are pretty nuts if the monster can't move.

Exactly, you can tell how good a hammer user is by comparing how many golfswings and superpounds they land. It's why striker removes the golfswing entirely and has built in focus, because it's meant for shitters who can't lead their swings.

This turned out a little longer than what I expected and looking at it all laid out:
I fucking hate 1st gen "Raptors" and never want to see them again, they're horrible, uninspired, and the 3rd/4th gen are superior in everyway.
I think 3rd gen was when this series REALLY started pulling it out of their ass in terms of "interesting monsters with unique mechanics, attacks and behaviors that aren't just rathian remodels." I'm STILL shocked Nibelsnarf isn't a staple when the desert is so fucking empty.

Swimming needs to come back.

I think I've deciphered some of this. What was confusing me was that he was only mentioning spirit slash 1-3, but the standing spirit combo has 4 different attacks. I think he's talking about the brave stance > spirit combo, which only has 3 attacks. So anyway

Brave GS gets buffed charge MVs, the issue is that you're limited to regular draw attacks until you hit brave unless you have a really big opening, and because of the playstyle of GS its brave gauge drains faster than most.

I'd say it's better than mainline overall in the fact that everyone weapon can pull a decent time including stuff like HH and GL, and some pretty good times if you take the time to make a set for the weapon and get good with it.
It's kinda hard to say exactly how each weapon stacks up to each other since there's so many different things to consider like GSR in said weapon, the skill set since you have so much freedom of skills in Frontier, and then the weapon itself.
But in the people I play with there are some that naturally lean on specific weapons and they stack up quite well with most others when everything is working as it should.

As for duals, they still have it, even in Extreme.
I still suck with duals so I never use it often either and manage to get away with it. At least I can have Stylish and Stylish Assault to carry me through instead.

More viable than 4U, I think. 330 with white, which deals about the same amount of damage as 300 on purple? Affinity is more or less the same as 4U, which means weapons with easy affinity boosts will easily overshoot 100% affinity if they're running WE. It all comes at a cost of 1 HA though, so it's definitely not for everyone. This is just observation though.

In MHG online as a hammer user, especially against say Hyper Silver Rathalos I am able to KO him about 3 times in a hunt. Yes, my groups might suck at dealing damage, but the fact is I was only beaten by a gunner in how much I disabled the monster.

I agree though that hammer is a tad bit underpowered. Its because other weapons now have access to KO and monster are now being balanced around THOSE weapons (oil, switch, explosive ammo etc.) that the hammer cannot keep up anymore as the king of KO because to KO with a hammer actually takes skills, especially online. Yes, skills. Knowledge of monster moveset and strong arming head hits.

I think in MHG I had to go Adept online, otherwise I'm carting due to head hunting. The randomness of monster movement makes it tough to predict a good hit followed with a golf swing but the one thing though is...

It looks glorious and feels amazing to pull of a beautiful KO as a hammer user. If you're a gunner or another weapon it doesnt even feel satisfying.

In short I enjoy the utter powerful feeling of pulling off a KO as hammer. No other weapon even comes close.

No other weapon breaks a Ceanataur's shell better than Hammer. Not even Switch Axe can do better.

Anyone experiencing crashing when battling basarios in G2? It crashes after 20 secs at the beginning of the battle. I don't have any dlc and I'm using the 1.2 patch btw. Cant progress with this bug though since this is a key quest.
