I was told I need card advantage units, but I'm not sure what I'd swap. Even then, it seems keeping a big guy into the next rounds is enough to keep up. A round 1 win with a 12+ keep is basically guaranteed card advantage if you just pass round 2.

I don't think Lock will be as important as people think it will be. At the very most, you can run d.shackles or cleaver as a tech against borkh/yencon/lugos, but not a lot of people will run golds that don't have immediate effect, because they'll be too worried about them getting locked, so you can probably safely run a deck without locking mechanisms, and cackle in joy when your opponent topdecks D.shackles in the third round.

i just wish they would either release the patch or save the previews until the patch is closer

Shackle means than cards like Yencon, Borkh, Hjalmar, Kambi, Lugos, Isengrim, Ocvist, and any bronze card that has effects over time (take a look at NR) are in a terrible position.
It also stops some passive shit like weather immunity.

The effect doesn't really bother me, we already have Locking now, what concerns me is how available will be in the future.
Starting a game and exchanging locks for the first 5 turns sounds pretty boring.

Timed golds will see a lot less play, at least in the days after the patch hits, since everyone will be worried about getting hit with locks.

Timed cards seem to be getting phased out anyway, several cards will lose their timers this patch.

And in regard to NR's bronze timed units, no one's wasting shackles on them, they'll save them for Borkh.
