I had an idea for a first person exploration-based adventure game set on the citadel that I was in love with for awhile.

The gist was that you were an ex-earth-detective now doing consulting work with c-sec among other small jobs and you're sought out by this alien lady that desperately wants you to find her daughter, with the game opening up completely from there. A bit of deus ex hub exploration, a lot of (hopefully) well done dialogue and worldbuilding, some classic adventure game puzzle shit, and maybe some sparing gunplay.

I would still play the heck out of it.

Even the hugest critics of Andromeda so far have said the combat is great, but I hate it. It's so unengaging compared to previous games. No power wheel and no ability to control squadmates' powers. Insanity is long and tedious as an adept. I sit there waiting for my cooldowns since Cora won't charge to detonate. I'm going back to ME2 and waiting for the full game.

Not sure if bait, but my general attitude toward Bioware games is(was?) that they're only good if you can really immerse yourself and use your imagination fairly liberally. I always find it a slog to replay the first game because the mechanics are half-baked and the overall plot and campaign structure is laughably by-the-book, but it still holds a special place in my heart because I'll always remember that moment when I was ready to quit and call it a piece of shit, but finally opened up the codex and just started learning about the world. It opened up this whole realm of possibility that was just so engaging.

I actually really enjoyed the combat of the first Mass Effect. It felt like a good blend of RPG mechanics and shooting. I liked that the biotic abilities had combos and weren't just ME2's "it makes an explosion" using pull and then throw on a guy sent him fucking flying, and Once I got good at it I was sending them flying into other enemies and imagining the bowling pin's sound effect. I loved the overheat system, since it was so differnt from any other shooter of any kind I'd played.

The Hinterlands or whatever that first map is was terribly mundane, but I rather liked wandering around the other maps.

Stop trying to sugarcoat it, who honestly won't get fucking tired having to run around on foot to scan fucking shit? stupid sidequests and tedious bullshit remains the same regardless.

I'm not going to spend a majority of my time to stop every other fight to run around and scan for minerals just because Bioware aren't creative enough to come up with a better solution to expand the time spent in the game.
