The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for retards:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of a Dead Earth
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>GearBlocks
>Garry's mod
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Infinifactory
>Intersteller Rift
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Space Engineers
>SpaceChem
>StarMade
>Skywanderers

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Well guys, machinecraft anon was right, you can literally do anything in machinecraft. As it turns out you can write C# userscripts that modify the underlying Unity objects. Anything that is possible in Unity can be done in machinecraft, even flying around 10178 km/h without thrusters.

So, what's our current Space Voxel Game rundown, /egg/

Spengies:
>90% feature complete
>good grafix
>mod support
>KEEN breaks the game on a weekly basis
>performance is nearing acceptable levels for the first time in years
>netcode is still trash
>will always be trash
>simspeed will always be lost, like tears ion rain
>spengies will never be good and will always be the best we got

Empyrion:
>barely 30% feature complete
>runs okay
>netcode is acceptable
>bugs up the ass
>no engineering
>flat planets
>rust in space
>hide and seek simulator
>shit PvP and shipbuilding meta
>no collisions
>cheap spengie clone to cash in on goyims fleeing the sinking KEENship

Weapons system needs to get bigger and more varied though. Some more thought in systems and energy managment wouldn't hurt either but I'll wait patiently for all of that. Avorion is quite fresh.

And even if neither Abortion, nor any of the other memegames (Planet Nofags, Dual Citizenship, Osiris: New Pawn...) help(ed) to fill the gap, I am still here, hovering, waiting for a chance to get a serbian back up and running. And something tells me, Keo isn't too adverse to helping with that, either.

If it's not cancer-inducing shit-tier of effort to keep basic game functions like "logging in" or "running for longer than 30 minutes" available, that is.

I maek plane.

It seems to be the only thing I'm good at; though to be honest everything I want to make seems to be hiding behind unfinished features.

Missile gauge when?

Better subvehicle management/docking when?

New AI when?

The close one is the Carwennen, it's a 1300 cost carrier-deck take off interceptor with an AP-HE belt-fed autocannon.

Far one is the Caliburn, a 1100 cost carrier-deck take off bomber that drops APN guided explosive frag bombs. Both of these suckers fly at a decent 90+ m/s.

I've been working on carriers to launch these from, but I keep getting sidetracked.

>>171135534
They're ultra-light by design, and yeah that does mean they tend to go kablooie if they're hit by a direct flak or missile hit. They're stupid resource efficient though thanks to their dodgy flight paths and speed. These are definitely super-early game.

This is the smallest carrier I've almost finished for the suckers. Really I hate the design and need to probably take another crack at it.
>>
>>171135847
>Somehow you've managed to be less helpful than the official forums. I'm not mad, I'm just impressed.
Well, i tried my best.

Anyways, if you want more info...
>Missile gauge when?
If i'm not mistaken, sometime ago we were told that we'd be able to change missile size in a patch that was coming soon.
That patch came, and it brought particle cannons, but no missile gauge in sight.

>Better subvehicle management/docking when?
subvehicles and docking work, so this is not in Nick's priority list, i don't expect this (or nested turrets anyways) sooner than 2019

>New AI when?
This is the one that's most probably going to change one of these days. Maybe not making it better, but adding a new functionality, like detection some patches ago

So what you're saying is I should ditch the ice and switch to hydrogen tanks? The wiki says I should only be burning like 500 ice an hour.
>>
>>171135426
Get 3 hydrogen tanks, 2 in use, 1 on stockpile. 2-4 oxygen generators per tank. You'll need lots of ice to fill those things, so incorporate a piston + drill or a mining drone into your ship.

>>171136604
Getting hydrogen by separating it from water is idiotic anyway. You can just SUCC a gas giant for millenia and use a fraction of energy required for other methods.

>>171137479
Tanks are required for hydrogen thrusters. It's extremely ice hungry, filling up 1 tank to 100% is at least 300k ice. The tank will last decently long in space and won't last at all on blaneds.
>>
>>171137479
One full large grid hydrogen tank can fuel a large grid large thruster for 6.48 minutes

One full largegrid tank can burn two large grid small thrusters for 19.06 minutes

1kg ice in a large grid produces 9L of H, meaning you have 234,000L A large tank holds 2.5million L

That's enough for two largegrid small thrusters to burn for 1.78 minutes
>>
>>171138184
I'll also add, large grid oxygen generators produce 501 H/second

Large small thrusters burn 1092.5/second
>>
>>171138327
Small grid:

1kg ice makes 4H at 166H/second
small thruster burns 109.2/s, so that's 218.4/s for you

26k ice at maximum burn in a small grid with two small thrusters should last almost 8 minutes. T small tank can hold 80,000L, lasting just over 6 minutes
>>
>>171138184
I'm only using a pair of super tiny thrusters. The guide says that should burn 220H per hour, but I easily gulp down 400 ice in a few seconds.
>>
>>171138917
>1
Make sure you're reading that right. On a small grid, small thrusters burn 109.2H per second.
>>
>>171137802
>>You can just SUCC a gas giant for millenia and use a fraction of energy required for other methods.
>tfw no gas giants to succ
I had a similar idea, I wanted to make an oxygen tanker built to go in and out of Earth, with a fuckton of oxygen tanks and vents on the outside set to depressurize and just succ atmosphere until full, and then spesstrukk it back to a base. But this talk about bringing the succ to a gas giant for hydrogen would be pretty sweet for trucking too, and probably much more useful than hauling atmo.
>>
>>171138989
oohhhh. Damn. That gets expensive pretty fast. Well I'm only using them as mining ship afterburners so it's not too bad.
>>
>>171139397
Their only decent uses are to get from surface to orbit or for short bursts of boosted acceleration i.e, spacebrakes or afterburners.
>>
>>171139312
Ayylium planet should have high hydrogen atmosphere. At least there'll be a reason to go there. Flying agile hydrogen dogfighters with infinite fuel.
>>
>>171139587
Meh, as long as you have several million ice stockpiled on an ice moon, have multiple oxygen generators, and carry 300k+ ice with you at all times, and also use ions/atmos for assistant propulsion you can enjoy the massive thrustage and not worry about fuel that much.

Hydrogen thrusters are best thrusters because they're not magic blocks that make you fly, they need fuel and proper placing and tubing.
>>
>>171140302
There's no magic behind running 50 thousand refineries to process enough platinum to build a single big thruster. That part is pure grind.

>H as a primary fuel source
84kN per kg of ice vs 1,071kN per kg of U
per kg of fuel, U has over 100,000 as long a burn time as H

One large reactor can run 8 large ions, with an hour of fuel comes to about 0.06867 kN/kg and 219 blocks, 131.5kN/block
One large H thruster needs 13 generators to run, with an hour of fuel comes to 0.07193 kN/kg, it takes about 5 of these to match the thrust output of the ions, for 265 blocks, 113kN/block

It takes more than two tanks, I'll just call it two, to burn a large H for 15 minutes, 81 blocks, 0.258 kN/kg, 74kN/block
For similar thrust takes 3 batteries to fully power a large ion for 15 minutes if I'm doing this right, 54 blocks, 0.06235 kN/kg, 133kN/block

Alright, my goal is to make a really compact twin 6-barrel 88-122ish mm autocannon that has a capacity of 20-30 rounds that it can fire in less than 5 seconds.
It's going to be used in a static defense turret so I'm disregarding recoil for now.
Wish me luck.
>>
>>171157946
Another goal is that the rounds must be powerful enough to destroy a lone metal 4m beam in 1 shot, and 2 shots for stacked beams, then only fatass heavily armored airships, planes or tanks will be able to shrug off the damage being caused.

The point I was making is that you're going to have to actively refuel your ship constantly, and it's going to be significantly more massive than using ions for basic space travel. Those numbers don't take into account the extra gyros you're going to need for similar mobility, conveyor systems, extra armoring, etc. And the more fuel you want to keep on hand, the less efficient Hydrogen is going to be compared to Uranium.
>>
>>171182660
Additionally, it takes almost an hour and a half for a single generator to fill one tank.

I understand your points. Great argumentation. By the way, while we're simplifying games, let's remove belts from factorio and give players drones from the very start.
But really, eveyone has their preferences, you may crunch numbers as much as you want, I'll still go with hybrid thrust that bases on h2 tanks.
Except that one anon that posts spengoface with "stop using hydrogen thrusters", he is clearly wrong in everything he does.

Thruster override values probably. Not sure if override max is same as regular thrust tho or if it's overdrive as well as override. Large H has 9 MEGA Newtons of thrust, or 15 second burn gets a modest ship to 250 m/s.

Large cargo container holds ~420,000L
Platinum is 1kg/0.04L
Large hydros output 6,000,000N

Not counting the entire rest of the needed bits, 2 large H can get a box full of stone or lighter off the ground, 6 can get iron, with a small boost cobalt and nickel too, 8 gets you silver, 13 and a few smalls gets you uranium and gold, and 15 gets you a single box full of platinum.

And that's just hovering, no fuel systems or fuel, no orbit, etc

To build a welder ship in 1x cargo volume setting, you'll need like 10 trips from your assembler to wherever you're building it. Then obviously you need to build a bigger welder drone with the smaller one. And then use that big welder drone to build anything large grid.

/egg/ got so hard about skywankers that they went to dev's discord to beg for access, dev was happy and not a dick, despite being french
said dev memes about prequels daily and has good autismo
we call him baguettedev or faguette or the skywankers dev, as usual pick your poison
>>171202289
unity, sphess, very low physics, very early build, currently there's greenlight voting, has some promise, but looks shit (the minecraft 'aesthetic'). some jizz at the thought of it, i don't find it /egg/ enough in it's current state
discord was posted somewhere ealier
windowz only currently, that will probably not change
>>
>>171202289
It's only in restricted alpha as of now, but the dev has a discord up which testers/interested people can be invited to if this thread/anyone reading has the invite link HINT HINT ANYONE READING.
Also he knows we exist already, so he might actually listen to us if we point out something's a good/bad idea.

The mechanics already look nice, very few glitches. Currently waiting for clipping to be added so we can really begin pressing it for CLANG.

>>
>>171203960
RIP. He wants Star Wars flight model where thruster placement doesn't matter. However, rotors don't lag so we can have fun with that. Unlike spengies.
>>
>>171203584
>>171203746
>Broken English maybe?

His wording is fucked, and only partially correct.

His AND gate only puts out 1 if both entries are 1, and his OR gate puts out 1, if one of the two gates is 1. Problem is, the latter shouldn't put out 1 if both are 1, and the AND gate should put out 1 if both entries are 0. Mhmm. Might need clarification.

>>171203915
Last thread has it: https://discord.gg/ufGxXzB

>>171203960
It looks like MineCraft, because he's a shit artist. No idea about thruster placement. He's a one man show. Lack of funding might kill the game, as he is already burning his savings over working on this. Lack of exposure leads to a slow Greenlight process. Needs Greenlight for Early Access to monetize development. Could die any moment.

What do you mean? The pic clearly states: OR and AND in starwankers take lower and higher of the 2 values respectively, unless only values used would be 0 and 1, then it's wrong and my autism can't handle it.
I doubt that tooltips would be this far from implementation and dev knows english well enough to know what he's saying. It looks like he just made (a<b ? b : a) for OR gate and (a>b ? b : a) for AND.
>>
>>171204285
WTF?
AND gate should be 0 unless both signals are 1, when both are 0 then it's zero
OR gate should be 1 if both are 1, you are thinking about XOR, which is 0 for 0;0 and 1;1 and it's 1 for 1;0 and 0;1
it's basic boolean people
either way, we are talking about 1 and 0s here, but the game seems to operate on fractions as well, in this case or should sum, and should multiply (up to a treshold ofc)

Spengies likes core frequency and single core performance. If you can find 2500k aka JESUS CHIP and overclock its balls off, spengies should gain a nice fps boost. But of course despite the memes, intel's single core performance has been steadily improving for the last 6 years.

Also, despite the memes, i5 2500k running at 5 GHz will get its shit pushed in by equivalent Skylake running on stock clock. So its a jesus chip only for people with an overclocking fetish. Transistor count > all.

/rcg/ here
Let me give you the real reason

1. It WAS, at one point, autistic enough to where your build mattered worth a fuck and we could clearly exploit the damage propagation mechanics for various weapons. The skill ceiling was far higher.
2. The Devs are fucking retards that came straight off making mobile games.
3. the Devs repeatedly rebuffed our suggestions to the point we maintained active, hostile communication with them for some time despite that.
4. They actively shit on fliers, the majority of /rcg/ builds and focus, intentionally. Every update further crippled the Sunwalker fleet until the were all permanently grounded.
5. The game is no longer fun due to absolute horrid balance, feature creep, lack of a grasp on a decent focus and vision for the game and a horrid one when they finally decided upon it, and has not been fun for years.
6. Freejam's claim to fame is CONSTANT technical fuckups. Many /rcg/ and /egg/ managed to amass months or even years of premium time at no cost.
>>
>>171223474
1. It broke
2. They clearly don't know how to fix it even though it should be obvious
3. Even if it was fixed it would never get the playerbase back

Not that I'm one to talk due to me playing spengies, but it's been a well-known fact since a few weeks after they split dev and stable branches that being on dev is a bad idea if you actually want to play the game. It's what put the final nail in the Warbros coffin.

>calle payne
Captcha is always right.
>>
>>171237656
Yep. That's just what we needed, another fucking change in the update schedule so that mods get fucked even more.
At least we got rid of the split.
>>
>>171237926
Except that dev was more stable than stable, and after the switch everything was fine for a bit, then they fucked up the dev.
Now, I'd agree with you if we could have just rolled back to stable and keep playing but NO, they fucked the stable too.
There has never been a reason for two branches, since they creep "minor" updates in the stable version anyway quite often (just check when spengos update when you're on stable) and it ends up as broken as the dev.

Arguably this is for the best, since they leave you the option to roll back to a previous version, but that's just buying a week of time before the next minor """fix""".

Here's a webm.

There's actually two layers of controller at work here: a P-controller minimizing pitch and roll by changing rotor RPM from a neutral point, and a bang-bang controller controlling each motor's RPM by changing motor throttle. If you have a very specific autism for control systems then this game might satisfy it.

One missing thing that would be in my dream /egg/ game is encapsulation for assemblies. When you load an assembly in this game, you load all of the logic blocks that make it up. If you spawn multiple instances then the Tuner blocks will be on top of each other and you'll have to painstakingly separate them.
>>
>>171231790
Where's this from?
>>
After FINALLY betting to do some accurate science, the number I generated while at work seem to hold up.

A single large hydro's lift power caps out at about 612,000kg effective mass, meaning a single box full of Pt ingots needs 134 MN to get a 5m/s^2 upward acceleration in earthlike gravity. FUCK, that's 22+ hydros or 25 atmos that become useless out of orbit.

For the same volume of Fe, and the same acceleration goal you still need nearly 50 MN; 8+ H or 9+ Atmo. For a single box of Iron. SILLINESS IS WHAT THIS IS
>>
>>171242464
Not that none of this factors in the ship weight, this is strictly cargo mass being thrown about here.
>>
>>171242020
The only thing stopping you from making a large airship in that game that's run by four centrally mounted chaos engines mechanically driving four lift props stabilized with gravity gyros is pure single threaded performance.

>Vanilla Spengies

Don't do this to yourself. Not for this game, it's not worth it.
>>
>>171245276
I've been doing the maths myself, to decent accuracy thus far. I haven't bothered adding ship weight to the mix yet because I'm designing around the cargo as focus, and ship weight is going to change pretty hard based on that. I've also not been looking at the speedcap just yet. Vanilla, it takes just under 7minutes to get to orbit.

Large hydros cap out at about 610k kg, and atmos cap out at 551k in earthlike gravity. To keep a decent ability to accelerate upwards, you want to keep your effective weight to about 3-400k per large thruster. The maths are actually really easy, but the numbers you need for planetary shit are retarded.
>>
>>171246341
>but the numbers you need for planetary shit are retarded
Planets were a mistake, and hydros make you a cock sucker for ice.

>>171250305
There are so many shit in the middle of those suicide stop-land stuff that could go wrong.
>>171250478
Now you can lock stuff permanently, using small grid cargos, and large thrusters on locked rotors could help, but you need to check the difference in capacity between a large block small cargo, and a small block medium cargo, and kinda limits you in the scripting since multigrid lack of control.
Also... locked rotors gives you CLANG coating. since stuff on locked rotors fucks up the grid mass against voxels, so a hundred ton ship will just bounce even going at sanic speeds.
You just need to place a rotor with another rotor and with a block in its head, and lock them, nothing more, and suddently invincibility against voxels, but it could be patched, so no garantees in the long run.
>>
>>171251209
The current plan is to use sensors and programming to align the pod properly upright and to engage the thruster a set distance from the surface.

A smallship large cargo holds the same volume as a largeship small cargo, while the smallship thrust is about 1/13th as powerful. Not really worth the effort there.

>>
>>171253334
I ment to use rotors, to have large block thrusters in a small blocks chassis, so you can both cut the weight and the size of it.
>>
>>171253495
The chassis and 'avionics' for lack of a better term are honestly paperweight compared to a maximum payload.

Dry, the pod comes to like 108k kg, but should be able to deliver 332k kg of Platinum. That said, it becomes more of a supply ship than a trade ship.
>>
>>171232791
On your first point, I disagree.
Are you arguing that because of the 1 life each player had per match, building mattered more?
It still matters. If you beat your opponent, you're free to capture objectives with one less opponent for 15 seconds. The team with less deaths usually wins, and better bots help you to die less

They've also only introduced MORE parts, so I don't see how the skill ceiling has gone down.

All logic gates are simply questions and answers.

The AND gate asks " Did I get both signals?" and answers.
The OR gate asks "Did I get either signal?" and answers.
The XOR gate asks "Did I get only one signal?" and answers.

The negative gates simply ask "Did I Not?"
NAND "Did I not get two signals?"
NOR "Did I not get either signal?"
XNOR "Did I not get only one signal?"

Finally, you have NOT, Which is really simple "Did I get no?", Simply flipping a Yes to a No and vice versa.

That's the simple part... Now you need to think about how the system works when you have a flowchart of hundreds-thousands of these questions.

faguette here. So the skywanker logic system is a bit different : you send a value contained in 0-1 interval. You can send 0.236 in the system for example. Send x to a rotor, rotor will move x%. (send 0.5 to rotate 180 deg). So AND OR are just extended to match the fuzzy logic, hence the min max definition. Want an elevator to stop at x meters ? do the math (soon the game will do the math for you, cause I am a nice boy)

This. Having run a server for a while, long after the novelty of planets had worn off the majority of people who join the server still wanted to play on the planet.

After a few hours they realized they'd fucked up and it's hard as shit to gather resources on the ground and they either gave up or restarted in space.

wanted to add the two main obstacles to moon-anons scenario

100m/s speed limit. going to and from space to gather resources, or between locations on the moon to network with people is slow as fuck making it tedious and boring

Players are assholes. To network with people you want bases within acceptable travelling distance of one another, but if you don't want to login to find all your shit destroyed, Isolation is best.

Jump drives make networking and base security easier to do but they only work in space so yeah.

See, I feel like we'd need some layer of offline protection (IF owner == offline THEN owned grids indestructible/unhackable, with a 5 minute time-out on disconnect to staunch panic logging) for something like that to work in the long run. Or, an AI worth murdering, so people can and will rather coordinate attacks on passing traders/5-0/pirates/your mom.

And the 100m/s surface speed needs to go. But, we talked about this for literally years.

i get that 100m/s is low, but "tedious and boring" is part of spess charm. ffs there are light minutes between earth and mars, it's not unreasonable to demand 20 minutes for flight between them. of course it breaks immersion, when you just want to continously accelerate into deep space or when you can't overtake someone despite having more acceleration, but space is big, travel should take forever. if speed limit is changed, or if someone mods the speed limit, they should change the planet locations so they are n-times more far away from each other

Nobody uses AND OR with other thing than 0 or 1, usual constant and bounds renorm are put at the end of the chain, just before the system, if I need to change that that will be one line of code that will impact nobody, so I am open.
Will take NAND to TETRIS course when I have time, maybe it will motivate me to do virtual computer in the game. Cause one day I want someone to come up with a von neuman machine in my game, then I can die in peace.
>>
>>171284348
Oh just checked a few t-norm

Łukasiewicz logic is the logic of the Łukasiewicz t-norm {\displaystyle x*y=\max(x+y-1,0)} {\displaystyle x*y=\max(x+y-1,0)}

Gödel–Dummett logic is the logic of the minimum t-norm {\displaystyle x*y=\min(x,y)} {\displaystyle x*y=\min(x,y)}

Product fuzzy logic is the logic of the product t-norm {\displaystyle x*y=x\cdot y} {\displaystyle x*y=x\cdot y}

Monoidal t-norm logic MTL is the logic of (the class of) all left-continuous t-norms

Basic fuzzy logic BL is the logic of (the class of) all continuous t-norms

Godel = min, kinda want to stick with min now

>>
>>171284348
The thing is that the Fuzzy definitions of AND and OR have a specific application, namely in Fuzzy Logic Controllers as you've read on that website. I can't off the top of my head think of how to implement an FLC in logic gates. They're usually done in code, with the predicate system handled nicely by a library so that you can quickly digitize a machine operator's report on how he controls a thing, then fire him. Unless you are going to have an FLC block of some sort then it may be better to name those operations 'min', 'max', 'multiply', etc. and have logical gates that round or ceil their inputs.

Maybe a supreme autist like yourself can build ships from scratch with 1x cargo. But 2 hours spent hauling a handful of crap back and forth just doesn't work for me.

And no I don't mean "grind down all the free ships the game throws at you" I mean flying to an asteroid, mining 375L of shit, flying back, and carting parts to a brand new ship made from nothing.

>>171286542
thank you for your kind words, but no, I don't go back and forth, I just turn arount and place components
secondly: going to mine on distant asteroids won't give you 375L, since you have to have a drill and preferably a bottle with you (sometimes 2) so you end up with about 120-180L of haul, that's why you never do it by hand, you make spesships, I don't know if you've heard of 'em
it's not that hard to make a grindo/weldo drone, place a block 2cm from your cargo hatch, put the components inside (without welding beyond 2%) and then let the drone feed on it

Don't get me wrong, I love how they pour things and it comes out in a corkscrew if they're on a station using centrifugal force to simulate gravity. That kind of autistic detail is pretty good.

Otherwise, they really need to stop it with the rest of the bullshit. If they can have magic pieces of glass to interface with the communication and entertainment system of the whole station with no lag, then they can have drives that justwerk.jpg.
