Adept in ME2 was probably the worst class, but every class was viable. On Insanity most enemies had multiple layers of protections including barriers, armor, and shields. You could only use biotics when they were down to health and they were as good as dead anyway. The worst part of playing Adept in ME2 was having to depend on your team. Use Amplification Concussive Shot with Inferno Ammo and you can generate non-stop fire explosions. Concussive Shot doesn't even need a primer, it can detonate its own combos. It can also be fired insanely fast and aimed so that the smart mini-missile curves around or above cover.

Will probably want Energy Drain as your bonus power. I just did a Soldier playthrough and pretty much raped everything I fought no matter what weapon I was carrying with that combo.
