So, I saw a stream a few weeks ago of someone playing Mass Effect 2, and sometime after that I saw a video about the weapons in Andromeda that included clips from Mass Effect 3, and while I was watching those two things one thing that struck me was the really stiff animations. They weren't bad, per se, but they certainly didn't strike me as good. They were very unremarkable at best, and the same thing went with the graphics and technical aspects in general.
Sure, I saw those videos way after I played the games last, but aside from effects and lighting being way better in ME2 than 1, even at release they weren't anything special. Stiff animations (character animations during gameplay for both Shepard and squad, facial animations, the hilarious re-use of animations in cutscenes, etc), flat textures, same-y environments for the most part.

That brings me to my question. When people here on /meg/ complain about Andromeda (specifically the technical side, like animations), do they complain about it in regards to the trilogy, or are they comparing it to contemporary games now?
From what I remember, no one really complained about animations in the trilogy, even though a tonne of games had way better. Or is it the fact that, even after this long, they haven't improved accordingly?

Mind you, I'm not saying Andromeda has incredible animations, I'm just curious.

So this is the new star wars game? I haven't seen anything about Jedi are they keeping it under wraps for launch? Is it gonna be like the first game where you don't find out you're a jedi until you're pretty far in? I kinda hated being stuck with guns for so long but the shooting looks a lot better in this.

Nobody complained about that stuff in the trilogy or DA games that much (until ME3 at least) because they are really old and did fine for their time, and also because BW was the only company making these kinds of games, there was no gold standard and nothing to compare too. Now we have other games doing similar things in a much higher quality and so more is demanded of them.

I do think they've improved a lot in Andromeda though.

ME3 came out 3 years ago and was released on the UE3, it wasnt a graphical marvel and people knew it. also ME3 got alot of flak for lazy graphic flaws, cutscenes and animations.

7 years have passed, we transitioned to the Frostbite engine and still this shit looks like it came straight out of the UE3 engine.
People expected a jump in graphical quality, but Bioware couldnt deliver.

2010 still had games like AC2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Gears of War 2 was released two years prior with Gears 3 only a year after Mass Effect 2, Arkham Asylum, to name a few other third-person games off the top of my head. I think all those games had clearly better animations, yet as far as I can remember, no one bat an eye at the squadmates in ME2 who either ran around very stiffly, or hardly moved at all when standing still (idle animations).

The thing I hate the most is how they ruined the gun sounds. The ME1 guns sounded bass-y as fuck. You could feel the vibrations in your balls when you fired a sniper rifle in ME1.
