I think I screwed up but I still have some hope.

I was using http://www.marcrobledo.com/acnl-editor/ to fix some minor stuff in my town, namely moving a very annoying rock.

Then I did the following (and I know where I fucked up):
Saved garden.dat > inserted SD > started game (forgot to import the modded garden.dat first) > noticed the changes I made weren't there > know why > quit game without saving (bravo) > imported garden.dat > load game > get an error about the data not corresponding to the save and have to erase

Basically ALL lost because of my mistake. I still have the original garden.dat tho so I have some hope left I can still do something with it but I'm not sure how.

Anyone here has experience with it?

For what is worth, the team that has worked for me to get the highscore in most levels (till intermediate so far) is Eagle/hunter, bird/flight and bunny/sleeper.

most of my extra points i get from the hunter winning against snakes ands centipedes in a row as they give more points each time. and finally knowing how to cheat the damn wheel (press A when the worst option is at 3 'o clock and is almost always a win)

The gamecube version was a straight port of the n64 game, with almost no changes internally.
It only had 4MB of ram, so it was literally unloading the environment every time you moved between acres.
Running between acres was so annoying because it wasn't even a stylistic choice, it was a technical limitation.

Thanks guys for helping me complete some of the sets.
Now with my home fully paid I can start investing time in my town with some lights and paths.

I saw that Creepy set some posts ago and looked pretty cool, but man waiting until halloween could suck. I guess I will just hack it in, in the end the result would be the same if I asked for it and I have the means.
I could hack other stuff but there's a difference in getting stuff over the game by my efforts and getting stuff that's available just once a year and even then couldn't get all of it.

Now I just have to get Al to leave my town soon, I hate that ape.

Yeah, the only other thing I used it for is to remove a couple of ponds for space. The last thing I'm going to use it for is to screenshot the map of my town and use it for my town planning.

Hacking too much makes the game stale, honestly. It's more relaxing and exciting to get your items legitimately over time. It also helps give you more original ideas for home designing.

it never occurred to me until today while attempting to path for the first time how awful my map is. i've been playing every day for around a month so the idea of resetting without even being able to sell the town is discouraging.

aside from that, things like awful rock placement and overall difficult town designs make you work harder and being more creative with your pwps and decoration. I can visit someones town and immediatly see long ass lines of paths or villager houses all put in straight lines with no irregularities and go "meh"

at least in yours i'm curious to see how you work around the things you mentioned. I only have one pond and all my attention went to it cuz i wish i had more, you can see it in the dreamtowns list tho, is meh town.

true, true. the problem is that they constantly interrupt good spots for paths. plus most of the rocks are next to ponds too so i have limited space (i refuse to place a path on the space next to a pond since it looks like it's overhanging).
it's not too bad when my paths are only i tile wide but when i try to widen them i have no space. but i agree it's probably best to just try to be creative with it. it's not the worst layout but it's the fucking ponds man. too many!

so i went back to your dream to take another look. here's my suggestions that probably sound better in theory than action lol

for the middle bridge, it looks like you could have the path to the right of the plaza be 3 wide starting at the rock underneat freya's house. all you would need to do is just extend off the corner piece that's directly south of her door. then once you get to the intersection at the bottom plaza path, it can be a 2 wide path that's lined up with the bridge. lemme know if that makes no sense. you'd have to replant your peach tree which might be a pain.
also since that path would be running smack down the center of the town, being 3 wide would probably be cool for that too.

as for the right bridge, that's some unfortunate rock placement. not really sure on how to fix that. you could probably extend the path where the bend is to the right a little bit and put something there like a stump or a small pwp to make it look like it was fully intentional maybe? kinda tricky spot

What the fuck was I thinking I put it there so it was close to Harvey's campsite cuz ROLEPLAY but I didn't realize what I did at the time

Can't be bothered turning on my 3ds and screenshotting it then moving it to my pc etc.

Let's just say that mspaint image is the only relevant part of the map I'm unhappy with (and unhappy with it enough to restart over it). If anyone has any decent tips for what to look for when starting a town and checking out the maps go ahead though.

You could try to make a general store, or a flower shop. Maybe a blacksmith, though I don't think there's a lot of furniture that would match that idea.

It's not a game for everyone, it takes a lot of patience and most people don't realise the extent of things you can do with your town.
I've been playing for about a year and a half now (though I've only had my current town for 6 months) and I've played every single day.
I'm a huge autist though so I want a cute and perfect town...

Speaking of which, anyone have any deciduous tree saplings or blue pansies/roses? I have lots of cedar and bush starts I can give in exchange.

How long does it take for exteriors ordered through other peoples Nook's to show up at yours? I ordered a fancy fence monday but it didn't show up yesterday.

Also I learned the hard way that your second character can't even pick up stuff out of museum rooms. That's just low and added to my cleanup chores list.

Depends how patient/autistic you are. Some of the towns people make are absolutely amazing. A lot of people just like the atmosphere of the game too and just play it a little every day to relax.
There are city towns, suburb towns (Wasser is a personal favourite of mine) forest towns, tropical towns, Christmas towns, pastel/cute towns, sweet themed towns..

Some days finding a scallop and Pascal can take less than five minutes. Other days it can take hours. If you already have the pirate set in your catalog, he gives random pieces, which means it can take weeks upon weeks to finally get at least one of each item.

You're right, he does give you the pieces in order the first time. However, on my character in my new town, where I sold my previous town and kept my catalog, he gave me random pieces in no particular order, and it took me a month to get a keg. If you don't have the pirate set in your catalog, you should be fine.

my advice is wait for the day i can have him in boxes and we're both in the thread. if you move her right now a couple days could pass and you could get a random move-in (the % chance increases more each day you have less than 10 villagers) or get someone from somebody else's void.
