i wouldn't say the crossbow is op, but there's no reason to use the other syringe guns over it. i think its healing rate is also higher than the mediguns, so maybe that could be nerfed, but even then there would still be no reason to use the other syringe guns. the concept alone is too useful, if anything the other syringe guns should be balanced around it. or at least be given festives that also have candy cane needles, then i might use them.

I disagree and can give you evidence why.

Before 2013 when Valve overbuffed the Crusader's Crossbow, even in competitive play there were quite a few Medics still using the Syringe Guns.

It was only by 2013, and later 2015, when Valve buffed Crossbow so much that there was no reason to use the other options.

Valve just has to nerf the Crossbow so it's less efficient (still fun, still skill-based, but providing less reward for what it does) and it will be used more equally alongside the other needleguns.

I don't really see what the problem is. "point and shoot at whatever is running directly at you" pretty concisely describes the Scattergun, Revolver, Minigun, Shotgun and Pistol.

Crossbow's main difference is that it's "point and shoot at someone far away".

But I would support adding passive reloading to the Syringe Gun so that it's not such a pain to reload. Otherwise yeah Crosssbow should be nerfed, rather than buffing the other needleguns up to its level.

Because then you're just turning a healing class into a combat class and making it more similar to everyone else, which is a situation Valve was trying to fix from TFC.

Mechanically, the syringe guns are fine. They offer a ridicolous dps when retreating if you aim them well, and even on stationary targets they're nothing to sneeze at. The problem is that a medic has no incentive to ever use them in regular play, because if he's not using his medigun that means his patient has died and he's in danger, and melee is more consistent to take care of close range threats like scouts and spies
If stock had something small like, i don't know, natasha's slowdown on hit and the unlocks didn't, then there would be a slightly bigger reason to use it over the overdose, but it still would be outclassed by the crossbow

Completely dependent on your team's playstyle. Get a carry demo and a self-sufficient Heavy and you can give demo 30% heals instead.
