Essentially datum antags is a system to bring standardization to the concept of "an antagonist".

Every game mode and every type of antagonist share almost nothing in common with each other. The cult game mode supports cultists, but if you drop cultists in say, nuke ops, it works REALLY poorly.

The reason it works poorly is that game mode code is a beast that has existed in space station 13 for nearly its entire life (+10 years). Every time someone made a new mode or a new antagonist they essentially started over from scratch. On top of that the game modes they make are usually designed to keep track of their own antags, but no one elses. Every time the new code is building on a swamp of shitcode made over of the course of a decade by several dozen people. It keeps getting worse.

The net effect here is essentially it's like taking a set of 20 books, each written in a different language you don't know very well, and translating them all to a single language you DO know well, only because you had to invent it first.

We could do crazy things if we had it, but it's a hideous task that no one can finish.

I've got no experience making maps so everybody tell me why this sucks and won't work.

I'm imagining a space ship in flight. It's got a block of space around it large enough for engineers and MOMMIs to build along the sides of it and for nuke ops to park their shuttle, but beyond that is the warp space you see in the escape shuttle that will teleport you to a random z-level.
Instead of a single escape shuttle the ship has a number of larger escape pods. The 10 minute timer that would normally call the escape shuttle is replaced with a warm up timer for the escape pods, followed by another three minutes as they prepare to take off.
The bar backs up to space giving everyone a nice view to their death when space carp show up.
The research station and mining are on an asteroid in a different z-level as normal.
No department is to scale.
