Canon Geralt died at the end of LotL. Sapkowski is the only authority on canon and he doesn't give a fuck about games. In the games, we get to choose what our Geralt does and mine loves Triss Merigold :3

During his amnesia he fell in love with Triss and
eventually decided to settle down with her in Kovir. Without his memories of Yen, he was able to meet Triss all over again and see her in a different light for the first time.

I read the books and I would never deny that in them Yen is Geralt's one true love, there is no doubt there. However, games are a different medium, one that allows multiple story outcomes and I personally love picking the choices that make the game more enjoyable to me and I happen to love Geralt and Triss' relationship.

So, I’m still in Velen on my first run of TW3.

Loving almost everything about the game so far, except I absolutely despise the arbitrary 5-level range.

Example:

>Fight one level 9 ghoul
>Get it down to half health over about 5 minutes of straight attacking/dodging
>regenerates faster than I can DPS it at max adrenaline (over 100 health per tick)

I more mean that the entire idea of canon is weird and mostly not-helpful. I think it comes from a desire to historicize fictional worlds, and it's a *terrible* idea. I was never someone into the Star Wars EU, but wookiepedia is a living testament to the folly of canonization. Big franchises are really poorly suited to this kind of systemization, which is ironic considering that the idea of canon comes from the Church, one of the biggest franchise universes in history.

I really like how Morrowind handled cannon, re: the ending of Daggerfall. Previous game had 5 mutually contradictory endings? All of them happened simultaneously because causality broke.

There's no such thing as canon (and never was). Letho living or dying in W2 is only determined by your play of W2. If the default save-state says he's dead, it doesn't mean that "canon" Geralt killed him because there's no such thing, there are lots of different reasons for deciding what choices we carry between games, or what characters get into the game and which ones get cut, mostly technical and production reasons, never because we want to establish an official story-state for reasons of canon.

The game stands on its own, and you are permitted to have your own relationship to the franchise based on the specific parts of it you chose to consume. "Canon" is loving stupid garbage. Someone says they didn't take Ciri to the Emperor because he's an abusive rear end in a top hat (becuase that player chooses to incorporate elements of his character from another source), that's fine. If another player choses to take her to the Emperor because none of those elements are part of this story, that's fine too, it's not an invalid choice just because you read a book where he's a jerk.

The Elder Scrolls lore is god-tier though.

They said it was finished for Geralt. As much as they've been hacked with a lot of things in W3, I trust them on this. A Ciri sequel wouldn't make any sense, as you'll see with the endings. Really don't think they'll milk out the franchise. And the game ending on a great note with Blood and Wine.

They're from the Viper school, which isn't in the books. Geralt, Vesemir, Lambert & Eskel are from the Wolf School. There's the Bear school, a Griffin, Manticore, Cat. The latter is more of a glorified bandit school more than anything else.

As far as I can recall, there aren't a lot of talking about the other schools in the books. Really, apart from some chapters where they're at Kaer Morhen, there aren't a lot of other Witchers in the books.

They only said that Geralt's story is definitely over and they seem determined to make it so. I've seen several of them, including Marcin Iwinski confirming that in various interviews.

Possibilities include a Ciri game, but that seem unlikely to me and I'm not too trilled on it. They will probably return to the franchise in a few years though. In what way, it remains to be seen. I guess it will also depend on the success of Cyberpunk. If the games does well, maybe we'll see sequels for that. If it bombs miserably, maybe CDPR returns to their cash cow to save the day.

If CDPR does continue to develop witcher games it would be with different characters. They've been pretty clear that Geralt's story is done. And they are focusing on gwent and cyberpunk right now. I get such a kick out of how much Ciri looks like the child of Triss and Geralt. She looks like just what someone on, say, Deviantart might come up with when trying to imagine Triss and Geralt’s love child. She has Geralt’s hair, styled like Triss (especially her alternate outfit). Young Ciri even has one of Triss’ hair ties in her hair. She has Triss’ complexion (and freckles), with Geralt’s scar. Green eyes, just like Triss. Her outfit is a mix of their two styles, a mix of the practical and the fashionable, and her palette is the same as Triss’: white, dark brown, tan and sea green. She even has gems adorning her outfit, like Triss. Her abilities are those of a witcher and a sorceress. And even her personality and morals, especially her compassion and willingness to sacrifice and fight for others, follows Geralt and Triss. There isn’t a single shred of Yennefer in Ciri (thank god!).

Certainly strange, considering what the original author wrote (don’t get me started). But, not so strange when you consider that CDPR relegated Yennefer and made Triss Geralt’s main love interest throughout the series (indeed, she is the second star of the Witcher games). Even coming up with a reason (amnesia) to barely even mention Yen. Then, when they do show her, she’s depicted as a bitch (and called so by everyone in the game, most notably those closest to Geralt), and especially in comparison to Triss (who matches Ciri and Geralt in her nobility and selflessness). Ciri doesn’t have a kind word to say about Yennefer, with the sum of her thoughts on Yen being that she’s a “cold-hearted shrew” that is merely trying to use her.

I love this company, lol. I’m glad they improved and re-imagined the Witcher story and created these games so I could experience it. I’m glad they allowed me to see Geralt happy with someone who cares for him, I’m glad I got to see Triss happy after all she’s sacrificed and endured, and I’m glad they allowed me to save Ciri from the machinations of Yen, Emhyr and the others that want to use her; to let her find her own path. I hope in the next game, if we’re playing as Ciri, I get to let her embrace Triss has her mother, because it’s obvious who she took after.

I finished Side Effects and Price of Neutrality and they were both good but now im playing some fan made stuff and they are rigid to say the least.

Tips for Detlaff:

First phase, just dodge and hit him
Second phase, keep dodging his attacks(no idea how to dodge the ravens consistently), Quen up, hit him when he does that ground attack. Back off before he jumps.
Third phase, dodge, attack a pod, dodge, attack a pod, etc. or alternatively, kill the detlaff demon, attack pods while it regenerates, and do it again.

I know there's one epilogue mod in the works that's made in TW2 engine but they've been working on it for a long time and we still don't know the release date or even if it's gonna be any good. Yeah, the main quest was unexpectedly short but there's tons of side quests and points of interests to take care of. Personally wasn't a fan of that and after clearing everything it felt like the main quest barely made up 1/4 of the DLC but what can you do, most people loved the exploration aspect and all the side activities.

I started a new run recently, I'm about to meet the Baron, just did the Letho quest. This is my 8th playthorugh and I still enjoy playing, taking it slow, not using fast travel and doing all the side quests, the atmosphere, soundtrack, Geralt's dry humor, pretty much everything.
