There are occasions where people are scouted too, but there's a lot of sleazy shit going around in the scouting scene. There are some scams and some pervs just looking to hook up using the pretense of "scouting".

This is actually reflected in the commus, those with recruitment commus that start via auditions are relatively straightforward, but for the recruitment commus where it's Producer who approaches the idol with the intent of scouting them from the streets, the Idol's initial reaction is often to be very wary of him and first assume that he's some sketchy bastard.

When I was in Japan a few months ago with my family, this guy approached my imouto asked her if she likes idols. He then tried handing over a card and said that he was recruiting. I stepped in and helped her explain that she was just a tourist. I don't really know if the guy was legit or if he was working for some shady shit, but if this is how the scouting modus usually works, then I'm not surprised that they would ring multiple STRANGER DANGER alarms all the time and make people wary of scouting on the streets in general.

That was my salt. I'm not going to complain about drama itself, but the way it was approached really soured me. They're characters, not pawns, so treat them with a little more respect in the writing department. I really don't expect them all to try too hard to be genki in the face of a lost job opportunity. But make the characters seem like they are who they are and not stand-ins just to move a drama along.

As another anon said before, that's just a consequence of focusing on the main story narrative and cast. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but that just means that characters that aren't the main characters are just named plot devices. If this was a game, they're just NPCs that help move the plot along. It's not their time in the spotlight.

If it makes you feel better, the ones who vocally indicated how they were against this decision in the meeting was Suzuho and Emi. And when TakeP said that he had a certain project in mind, Emi was the first one to jump in at the opportunity to help. That was enough to show to the viewer that these two are people who are very passionate about what they do and take their comedy bits really seriously. Not bad for a throwaway NPC.

And hell, in the WWG manga, I can argue and get mad about how Uzuki was reduced to a plot device that gets shouted at by some random old man in order to agitate Takumi. But ultimately, that's what she is in that Manga. Just a random NPC for a single scene. We don't really need to know much about her. For the record, we at least still got a Ganbarimasu from her in that chapter.

This is one of the issues with adapting a series with a fuckhuge cast. Ultimately, only a select group will be focused on. The other cast will just be reduced to one scene or throwaway characters. It sucks for fans of those particular characters, but that's how it is.
