I don't get why they don't just copy elements from eu4 and vic2 from the start, the eu4 war, negotiations and war goals are literally perfect and peace time in vic2 is engaging and not boring to shit.
they've copying the unity system from vic and the ideas system from eu4 this next update so I think dev teams at pdx should pay more attention to what their peers are doing
>>
>>169274739
It's bits of improvement, but probably not enough to completely revamp it for you.

Mod support is in through Workshop, though, so you should start seeing things like UI overhauls and whatnot (provided it's possible)

What is that guy whining about? I play 8 city games in Civ V all the time and consistently become the big dick on the block.

>>169300529
The challenge is creating thousands of giant superconducting cables stretched between the Venusian surface and geostationary radiators panels thousands of kilometers across in order to bleed away Venus's excess thermal energy and allow it to be terraformed. That is physically possible, just implausibly difficult to do and dependent on technologies we don't even know are possible. Traveling FTL is a violation of physics and therefore makes terraforming Venus look like doing 1+1=2 by comparison. More than that. It's literally impossible.

Now, maybe our understanding of physics will change, but it won't be because we are TRYING to make something happen. No amount of effort will change how physics works. And if you are throwing out our current conception of physics then you are throwing out your entire means of making predictions and planning for humanity's future in the first place.

>>
>>169306354
And there you go, little bit of thinking got you the answer
>>
>>169306354
Fine, here's my answer.

It's on tier with G&Ks but with even more potential for development. It just is so innately superior to vanilla Civ V that it will no doubt eventually surpass BNW. However there are kings that still need to be worked out like supposed exploitability (I haven't experienced it yet but a lot of anons bitch about it).
>>
Okay lads, since we know enough about the Ascension perks and starting civics to maybe give a good answer to this...

... How would I best go about playing a race that thinks it's another race? More specifically, a species whose weak bodies and weaker immune systems necessitated the construction of robotic servitors to work the fields and operate the factories, but after a devastating plague annihilated the population and either reduced it to unsustainable numbers or outright extinction, the robots eventually began to see themselves as the caretakers or even children of that race, picking up their mantle and continuing on.

>Super simplistic version: What do you mean I'm a robot? I'm a Human, a child of Those Who Came Before.
>>

Either military one with weapons

Not at my computer right now, and won't be for a few hours. It's not the first warship I've ever made in Aurora, but I've been restarting so much that nowt the ones I've built have seen combat. It's probably pretty shit, honestly. The only weapons it has are 12cm railguns(4 or 5), i think the top speed is over 2k km/s, it's got a delta shield with a recharge rate v of 2(i think?) because i have some ungodly defence autist for as my best scientist. It's about 6k tons, has whatever the improved ceramic armor is called (i think) at thickness 3. No jump drive. I should probably build more construction ships until I can improve the jump capability of my ships in general, I guess. Can't remember how much fuel it has, but it's designed to operate for 18 months.

>tfw you build 3 jump freighters to bring infrastructure to a 2.00x planet 2 systems away and on the way back to earth they run out of fuel just past Jupiter's orbit
>>
>>169316941
What about using it to get constant sensor presence in an empty system?
>>
>>169317648
>restarting

but it's more fun if you fail at everything the first time
>>
>>169317794
They would have been slow, painful failures. I was restarting because I keot learning about some new mechanic that would have been really useful to know at the start, like changing intended operation time.
>>
ive never played civ like game before. I tried beyond earth demo because i like space and i liked it. Is it worth getting or does it get old fast?
>>
>>169318605
Gets old fast, unfortunatly. It had potential to improve but they abandoned it.
>>
>>169314619
Try actually reading what the weapons do. Current meta is kinetic weapons, because they have bonuses against shields and high damage. Lasers used to be meta because of their armor penetration and high accuracy, but both their accuracy and armor penetration have been nerfed so there's no point in using them, just wait for plasma weapons which at least have decently high armor penetration.

Missiles suck dick because they are easily countered by cheaply made point defense ships that the AI loves spamming. Only useful for fighting leviathans and other things that don't have PD. In a serious war you want kinetic artillery and plasma weapons. Kinetic artillery will demolish enemy shields before they even reach you, and plasma cannons will melt through their armor once the melee starts.
>>
>>169318605
It is very enjoyable for at absolutely least 4 playthroughs. Probably 6 with BERT (I'm just counting Affinity options here). From that point enjoyment starts falling. You could probably get 8-16 playthroughs before it gets old no matter how much you enjoy it. The problem is that the different leaders don't feel that different. They all just get really plain and hardly noticeable bonuses unlike other civ games where leaders have bonuses that make big differences, like unique units that define your wars for an era or features like claiming more land when you settle a city. It makes most playthroughs feel like previous playthroughs. It's hard to weave a different story for yourself every game. The affinities are very different and enjoyable, but that's it.
>>
>>169319050
>The problem is that the different leaders don't feel that different
This is why I never had fun with Civilizations.
Even with goofy factions like the Hyperdimension Neptunia one, it feels the same.
>>
>>169317648
Looking good.

I recommend using a jump leader ship that carries the jump engine and sensors for the group
>>
>>169318762
>>169319050
god damn it. seemed simple enough for newbie like me and was sci fi which i love.
>>
>>169319362
Was thinking about that. Does the jump engine have to be big enough that it can could carry the combined tonnage of the ships as a single ship?
>>
>>169319836
It should have been much better than it was.
>>
>>169319836
One amazing thing that I loved about it is the trade route system. The number of routes scales with the size of your civilization and the values of routes alternates between food and hammers for domestic routes and between energy and science for international routes. It's so much better than BNW in that regard.

I'm glad Civ 6 copied BE a little by having the number of trade routes scale with the number of commercial hubs and harbors you have.
>>
>>169319362
>>169319868
Also, is the fact that there's no missiles on It not a problem? From done of the stuff I was reading it seemed like missiles were really important.
>>
>Barbarians may now pillage tiles to heal.

And I will now commit suicide
>>
>>169319868
No it just has to be big enough to carry the biggest ship.
So a fleet of 4000 (jump ship), 5000 and 3000 x 3, the jump engine has to be specced for at least 5000 and 5 jumps
You can adjust the maximum group size with the tech.

Usually it works pretty well if you just have the jump engine and some sensors as both of those can be made pretty big.

>>169320303
Nah it's alright, all the weapons are viable they just have different playstyles. I personally love beam warships.
>>
>>169320427
>>169319868
Fug I goofed, the jump ship has to also be the biggest ship in the group so the example wouldn't work but the jump ship should be also at least 5000, but again that shouldn't be a problem as the jump engine itself is pretty big and if you slap in some sensors as well it can easily be the biggest ship of the fleet
>>
>>169320357
>barb camp spawns near my capital
>it's within 6 tiles of a horse resource
>my warrior is 15 tiles away across rough terrain
>Exit to desktop.
>>
>>169291250
It is, in my opinion, one of the biggest issues with the game, right below the economy and diplomatic side of things. Internal politics is getting a fix, but ground combat is probably still way far away

Like, ground army bonuses are completely worthless, once you have control of space, bombardment will drastically reduce the effectiveness of any enemy ground troops to the point where even the weakest slave armies and walk in and kill anyone
>>
>>169317790

>>169320690
Cool. Guess I'll need done big sensors then. The size I've thermals my survey ships use couldn't pick up that enemy ship until It was right on top of my own.

Has anyone made a static map for Stellaris in the same way other Paradox games use a map of the world for the time period? I feel like there'd be a lot of potential to at least generate a world with a large variation of more and less advanced empires here and there (More gradual rather than pre-FTL, FTL, and fallen empire versions), possibly make larger empires at start with some existing diplomacy, things like that. At least let us create a race separate from an empire and let there be multiple instances of them spread throughout the galaxy in the same way there's two human empires that share a race.

Every game just feel very much the same since everybody starts pretty much at the same point and time and just techs up from there. I'd like to see something like an advanced empire that rules a good chunk of the galaxy with advanced technology but never figured out something other races would assume is incredibly basic like missile systems or advanced energy generation.
>>
>>169321516
Missiles without warheads or engines dropped in place.

These are better though
>>169321430

>>169321386
Well it could mean a lot of things but what ever it was isn't there anymore.
And yes size makes sensors more effective so it's one of those places where you can sink a lot of extra tonnage for the jump leader ship. You should also have at least 2 but preferably 3 different resolution sensors on a proper sensor ship like this.
Long range very rough
Medium range decent resolution are the mandatory ones
Missile sensor is also good to have

>Man makes a robot.
>Pours his knowledge and personalities into it.
>Resultant robot thinks like a human, acts like a human, and for every conceivable purpose, is a human in a metal body.
>Biological humans die off completely over time.
>Only the robots remain.
>Robots go on to meet and greet the rest of the galaxy with the same customs their living counterparts would've and are pretty much functionally identical.

It's like everyone fears AI will take over and start murdering all of us, but that's simply because we see the AI as not-us. AI must be viewed in the sense of a parent seeing their child; one day, we'll fade away, and that child will inherit our legacy.

Its ok, the AI gets retarded at times with the pathfinding, on some heavily forested maps they'll have LoS problems, but aslong as you use the pause button (space) to monitor the battlefield you can avoid most of the AIs brainfarts.
The maps are rather large which is nice with how long the engagement ranges are with most the weapons.
As with all russian games there are some crashes, sometimes the game crashes on starting the mission, alt+tab too many times in a row and the mouse will lockout.
Its a very Men of War type of a game, but with less micromanagement.
you'll still have to rearm and refuel but thats mostly just driving a fuel/ammo truck next to your men. and just like in MoW you can capture enemy equipment, but only specialized crews can man certain vehicles (need tankcrew for tanks and pilots for helicopters)

For a 18€ game i'd say its worth it, the difficulty spikes up like crazy at mission 3 onwards.

The constant beam rustles me bushels, but I'm all for improving the firerate. Especially if they're bringing back heavy weapon firing arcs.

>Inna DoW2

>>
>>169341546
they did. basically the dow 3 lascannons are like that for a few seconds, before turning into a beam (they arent a beam from the start anymore) but maybe they changed it again, since they haven't shown lascannons in any recent gameplay footage. (maybe they'll make them sound more like cannons instead of wimpy shit)

Step 1. Don't be a scrub that forgets his fucking fleet stance

Step 2. Always have a hefty reserve of minerals early game and multiple spaceports so you can potentially recover from being s scrub

Step 3. Hope that the ai spreads out its fleet/isolates its transports so you can wreck their invasion forces and get some warscore for not losing planet wargoals

Step 4. If you fucked up all those steps beyond repair, hope that the invaders bullied you enough to get threat on other empires and get defensive pacts with some neighboring lads which will help you retake your planets.

How do I get it higher? I've been trying. Building space stations in orbit of my 3 of my planets, Building up those planets. Not sure what else except technology which is basically random it seems. I've only had 1 naval power increase tech so far.
>>
>>169344720
I set it to evasive. I remember doing that then telling them to go to the system. The only thing I can think of is maybe I had the wrong ship selected but I was sure it was the fleet.

It was against what seemed like a Leviathan or something, it was a massive creature coming out of a portal, if that makes a difference. Maybe they auto pull fleets into combat or something.
>>
>>169345047

The combat system is currently janky as shit. What probably happened is that your fleet somehow meandered across the magical invisible line that auto-triggers combat and ruins all attempts at maneuver.

Blame Wiz.

Population and space stations (also you do know you can build above the limit, right?), but your biggest problem is that judging from that fleet power you have t1 weapons. If you have 126 fleet power with 5 corvettes, you'd only have 650 with the navy at cap.

Yes to the energy required, but that doesn't mean it's unattainable. If it is a natural process that we can observer, then we can in fact make it, how easily though is another matter. We know that space can contract and expand, so creating an artificial process which can do this is therefore entirely possible, yet most likely difficult. That's where the breakthroughs need to be, more likely in some for of energy redirection than direct generation.

Another way to think of this: life could not exist without enzymes. We need something analogous to an enzyme to help mitigate the energy cost for such endeavours as a warp drive. A good example of how extreme an enzyme's contribution can be is OMP decarboxylase, causing what would take millions of years for a reaction to complete and turning it into milliseconds.

Albert knows for sure that Bernard doesn't know the answer. This eliminates lines A, B, 5, and 6 from the getgo, because if the answer was in A or B, Bernard could potentially know the answer from the start if the line he was told is 5 or 6, which each only have one answer.

Upon hearing this, Bernard realizes it isn't A and B and now knows the answer for sure. This in turn eliminates line 1 because if it were line 1, Bernard wouldn't know which of C1 and D1 was the correct pad.

Upon hearing this, Albert realizes it isn't line 1 and now knows the correct answer himself. This eliminates line D as otherwise Albert would be unsure which of D2 or D4 was correct.

Thus, C3.

If it is an observable phenomena, that is the theory for the natural occurrence is not falsified, then we can necessarily perform the same action via some specific mechanism(s). I'm playing Stellaris and I just got that event where an asteroid is plunging towards a world inhabited by a pre-ftl civilization.

Thing is, I already have three colonies in that system, so I'm kind of thinking of letting that asteroid hitting them so I can terraform the planet and colonize it myself.

So, does the event just wipe out the population, or does it also make the planet uninhabitable?

really good, basically on par with fresh water settles, and if they are actual river+coastal settles you won't have housing issues for a while
>district yield bonus from charming/breathtaking tiles
these are surprisingly easy to come by if you don't put mines everywhere, capable of getting ridiculous early yields almost anywhere

Not him but that's not mathematically impossible anymore. Something that's mathematically impossible means "lol fuck you time to face reality little laddo". Screenshoting wont do shit because i made several "types" of mods and simply sort those i downloaded from SkyMods to their respective categories.

FTL Players
Bigger Galaxy
SIns of the Prophets ( for dem HALO UNSC ships )
Expanded Ethics mod
Planet Types
Food import/export
Civilian Trade
Multiple Crisises
My own edicts mod that removes sector mechanics ( 10000 systems in core sector ), give unlimited influence ( because fuck your mana bullshit ) and optional shit for more energy/minerals/naval capacity.

Diplomacy is made by, at the very start, defining who your enemies/allies are with early scouting. Cancer factions like purifiers, hive minds etc are your enemy. The others, specially if their ethos matches yours are your potential allies. To make friends you start by selling star charts and ensure their independence. A little bit more exploration and you can sell more charts in exchange of a few minerals from their part (build relation) while possibly upgrading to defensive pact. You can do this even if you are xenophobe (requires more work though).

It really depends on the context though.

Once relations hit 100 or more, assuming they are not very far ahead in tech, you can try trading research agreements (mutual) in exchange of both charts and one time pay minerals. Totally worth it on insanity.

There's indeed things that we have never seen. No long ago, it was discovered a new particle that could be a carrier of a new fundamental force.

Even if it ends up being an statistical fluke, black matter and dark energy are still things unexplained by the Standard Model. We still have many surprises ahead of us.
>>
>>169390503
I will admit that it isn't a confirmed impossibility, as you say, but the models used are often nothing more than plot devices based on wishful thinking.

It's about as valid as the science behind Journey to the Center of the Earth, which could be said to be a hard science novel at the time of publication.
>>
>>169390082
It's being ages since I read the site, but that posits a range of possible values. 19000 km is within that range. Also Pablo Hidalgo once tracked down the shooting model for comparison with the Star Destroyer it was filmed with, and by that scale it's neither.
>>
>>169390835

Not even gravity is explained by the standard model.
>>
>>169390835
The point is that you can will something into existence in physics like you can in engineering. You have to go into physics not expecting to discover some specific new phenomena. Physics is something you have to discover and react to, not engineer. Until physcs lays out a clear path to FTL you shouldn't just fucking expect it to one day become a reality because it absolves you of the guilt of wasting your paychecks on televisions and netflix rather than giving it to NASA to build a generation ship.

Assume FTL won't happen. To do otherwise is like hoping Gandalf swoops in on a unicorn and whisks humanity off across the universe.
>>
>>169390993
no the range is 17200-17800, with the best guess being 600

What about fanatic individualism?

Also, the fanatic trait only applies to your empire, the individual pops are usually allowed to deviate and most ethics other than authoritarian can't do anything about it. I'm not sure if you can call it totalitarianism if dissent isn't punished, so I feel like authoritarian is necessary if you want to be totalitarian.

The Alcubierre Drive DOES account for causality. You are literally compressing spacetime in front of you, and expanding it behind you. So its UNSC ( United Nations Space Command representing venture between NASA and ESA ) vs Sword of Caliph ( muslim space agency - middle east and Africa ) vs Pan Asian Research Union ( joint Chinese-Japan-Korean space agency ) with fourth civilization representing rest of the Earths population as "neutrals".
Small amount of people at the start, money is a "budget" so going over is a big no-no etc.

Well Aurora allows only one name theme for NPR's so i chose China so its not like i will get any jap in there so we can pretend its pure China shit.

>Jump Tenders having to be larger than the ships it allows to jump doesn't seem to make any sense. It's difficult to make a pure jump tender that's big enough, and it's even harder to make a jump freighter that can jump itself due to how heavy the drives are. help
Jump Ships should be used only for Jump point assaults, otherwise just build gates.
Typical jump ship is just a normal military ship that sacrificies some of the weapons for a jump drive.

>>169413728
Jump drive works only up to certain tonnage. Both ship with drive and escorted one has to be smaller.
>>
>>169413514
US is friendly with India, so probably. The Chinese and the Russians don't like each other.
>>
>>169413514
The simplest possible way to make it simply to copy the base design and add a jump engine in one, that obviously guarantees it's bigger than the rest. This is bit inefficient though since usually the base design is a warship where speed is key and it might also lower other stats like endurance in a negative manner.

A better solution is to do that but then also remove some of the weaponry, keeping it still heavier but closer to the base mode.

Even better solution is to strip the weapons entirely and instead add other components like sensors and point defense, extra fuel and shielding to bring up the tonnage to the same level. That way you have a nifty support ship that can bridge in your fleets.

Banks is the code name for the 1.5 patch coming up soon. They name the big patches after sci-fi authors. Banks, Heinlein, Asimov, etc. Every patch features major tweaks and sometimes new content or reworks to existing content. 1.5 is an especially big patch cause it overhauls empire creation and how governments and ethics work. It's also bundled with the first major expansion to the game called Utopia, which adds a lot of new content that builds off of the 1.5 patch.

Fuck me, this might be the right general to ask this. I know SotS isn't a 4X game in the traditional sense, like GalCIv would be.

I've recently started playing Sword of the Stars 2 and supposedly when you get Science station to 5, it will turn into technology center for a specific field and that it would prompt me which field I want, but It didn't.

As a democracy it's better for you to liberate planets, then making those newly liberated systems into protectorates or vassals and then gradually annexing them. If you're strong enough you can just vassalize entire empires instead of taking them apart piecemeal first, but when your starting out you have to chip them apart.
>>
>>169429945
Happiness/energy/minerals. Food before the DLC is fucking pointless since having surplus is useless (even when the population of the planet is still growing it's still not nearly as good as just minerals or energy), and this just magnifies the later in the game you are, since 10% increase in minerals or energy can mean hundreds more.
>>
>>169431278
How do I make protectorates out of those liberated planets then? I'm clicking around the galaxy for planets that I know were liberated, (not by me though) and there's no way to offer to them that I will be their protector.

Sorry to bother you but googling it just brings up, "How do I protectorate into vassal?" 8 dozen times.
>>
God damnit, I just want a space 4X game that doesn't try to shove a million DLCs at my face.

it didn't work like that last I played, the cap is ridiculously restrictive

right I remember more clearly now, in BE there aren't demands at first, you just go to war, and when you negotiate peace you use your warscore to make demands, there is no limit to how much warscore you can get so you can keep on the war going until you win if you want to, and demanding cities is easier if you actually occupied them

That's where all the sandstorms come from.

If what you mean to ask is if it's been proved whether Mars can sustain a breathable atmosphere or not, I don't see why it wouldn't.

The only thing you need is a celestial body big enough to have it's own gravity well and enough greenhouse gasses to start capturing solar radiation, warming up Mars and melting the ice caps into Carbon dioxide and oxygen. It's a bit more complicated than that, but the basics are there.

It's the fact it's core cooled down and isn't liquid anymore, which means it's magnetic field is fucked, which means it can't be protected from sun's radiation.

Terraforming Mars would be trivial if we could just restart it's core or otherwise turn it's magnetic field earthlike.

And what I mean by "trivial" is even slightly imaginably possible, instead of being completely unthinkable. We could colonize mars, maybe, but not thrive there, we'd need radiation shelters to live there.

After spending a couple days playing with the Australia update, I now think Civ VI is playable.

My biggest complaint was the AI being absolutely terrible at using and maintaining their military but it seems to be a whole lot better now. The AI in my game still hasn't built much of a navy but I'm only mid game so that could change.

Also seems to be much easier to make friends and build alliances.

TSL earth map is FUCKING AWESOME. They need to make a larger version though, Europe is a little too much of clusterfuck.

>>
>>169452094

That's the exact opposite of what I was saying. There is no room. I just have to settle one more city and I've bsically claimed everything that China is supposed to have.
>>
>>169377674
They're pretty good but not that good. Some of the bonuses aren't as nice as they seem.

>bonus housing from coastal cities
Settling on coast is almost always a waste in Civ 6 since half the tiles you'll have are just worthless and it leaves your city vulnerable to naval attacks. Sea resources and ships can still be gotten by building a harbour. Settling on coast is only a negative and Australia's bonus isn't enough to compensate for it.

>district yield bonus from charming/breathtaking tiles
Doesn't apply to industrial districts, though. The bonuses to campuses and commercial districts are nice but everything else is shit to mediocre.
>>
>>169455038

>>
Here's what I'm struggling with giving control to sectors.
Naturally the first 4 planets I colonize, I'm looking for 20+ tile planets. I specialize 1 for minerals, 1 for energy, and the other 2 for research, then eventually I make my homeworld a research planet.

I tend to want to keep these planets as my core, but after they're done should I just throw them into a sector? Because building the buildings on a new colony and letting the AI go at it seems to be fucking retarded. There's a hydroponics farm and frontier hospital unstaffed while it has 1.4 growth...
>>
>>169457690
Build everything in advance, let the planet populate itself fully or to like 80% if it has a lot of tiles, then sector it off. Only way I've found to not have sector AI fuck itup.
>>

>Can't capture the Turanic carrier

You can't do that in the original without modding anyway.

Because that "carrier" has a requirement for 99 salvagers in it's .shp file and it only has 12 latch points.
Also, it is classed as a mothership so it is flat out immune to salvagers anyway.
Unless you change those two things, you can't salvage it.

And even if you do it's not much use, except as a rad-as-fuck pewpew death chariot.
Because it was never designed to be used by the player the dock points in the "hangar" don't actually work properly. (Everything you see coming out of there is script spawned.)
You can retire ships there normally, but if you dock them they are stuck in there forever.
This includes rescource collectors unloading.
