You say all the teams in this knockout are created equal, but you look at /jp/ and you look at everyone else and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another team, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But /jp/ are retarded autists and they're not normal! So every body else got a 25%, AT BEST, at beating /jp/. Then you add /toy/ to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down. See the 16 way, at Winter 2017, you got a 6 1/4 chance of winning, but /jp/, they got a 12.5 percent chance of winning, because /toy/ KNOWS they can't beat /jp/ and they're not even gonna try!
So everone else, you got a 6 1/4 chance of winning at Winter 2017. But then you take /jp/'s 75% chance of winning, if we was to go in knockouts, and then add 12.5 per cents, they got 87 1/2 chance of winning at Winter 2017. See crossboarders, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at Winter 2017.

>>169184830
>begging Lear not to let any more teams in so they can avoid a fetus.to be honest regardless of who it helps/doesn't help 11-12 team fetus for 8 spots is a complete waste of time and it should be smaller (maybe 10 for 6 spots or 8 for 4-5 spots) but that's another argument for another week
>>169185729
I'm on the fence. It does sort of defeat the purpose if you're saving like 3 games total, but the big fetus from last Spring was actually pretty fucking fun. /y/ advancing on all draws and getting blown the fuck out, the final not actually mattering and both teams getting through, "I don't believe in (x)" meme, those were fun.

Actual serious question brought up on First Bait. Are we going to start having issues finding managers for teams once they lose their own manager?
It seems we're still getting people involved in the cup but they're concentrating around specific boards.
>>169190294

From >discord there are people in line for /o/
>>169190352
/o/'s closer to finding a manager than /tv/.
>>169190294
>>169190352
It's worrying, because while we have bigger viewing figures now than in Autumn by a huge margin, more and more teams are dying, or are in disarray.
>>169190294
Probably yes, but it won't be a issue big enough to leave more than 25% of teams total managerless. We've already been through the biggest wave of mercs who jumped on teams like /fa/ or /cgl/ just for the sake of learning how does managing feel like, and they all had their chances and their fun, so most of new managers will probably belong to the board they apply for.
>>169190542
You've got to look year over year - Elites are always much more popular than Babbies, and Winter is more popular than Summer.
For all of the people trying to use attendance numbers to make their point about this or that killing or saving the cup, overall numbers are pretty much flat year over year.
>>169190542
A lot of teams were carried by long term managers who are now retiring or approaching retirement due to real life.
While the audience might be growing it feels that it is solidifying more around certain boards.
>>169190640
Yeah, just looked at the figures from last Winter and I see what you mean.
>>169190692
It looks like /tv/ and /o/ will probably be fine. /out/ might be fucked, though. If /qst/ and /sci/ join, we could actually end up with more teams than before.
>>169190829
on the other hand Legendairyman was pretty close to retiring before Autumn and I don't think /toy/ has a backup.
>>169191006

>>169190829

> /o/ have people apparently ready to manage
> /out/ have a manager lined up
> /sci/ might be revived
> /qst/ might join

>>169240985
>I wish Dtroit wouldn't try to make /d/ about him
Sorry, it's tough to curb the enthusiasm sometimes. Like, if i say "my team" it's more out of a identification of fandom (i.e. "My team is the Red Wings") and not ownership (i.e. "Mike Illich owned the Red Wings");_;
Unless you mean thread shitposting, which is just a hobby and should be considered seperate from the team itself. Trying to trip less when doing it but old habits die hard i guess. Sorry.
>>169242220
Personally, I never got the feeling that you were trying to make it about you, but that's just me.
>>169242220
Nah dude, your shitposting is a treasure. It's always got an undercurrent of good-naturedness so I can never get too mad at it.
Plus there's nothing you can do to gain the title of "Biggest attention whore /d/ manager of all time" unless you give a speech on stream about HOW YOU WERE MANAGER OF /d/ ONCE, so I don't really think you're an attention whore. I just think now you're probably the current manager most associated with a single team, like it or not. You're alright in my books.

>The villain isn't in the knockouts and won't win.

In terms of the cup being a thrill as well, yah it's not as much of a thriller imo. If we had /soc/ in or /mlp/ in, it would be a little more thrilling to watch, to see who kills the bad guy. Preferably, killed in the quarterfinals would be the optimal timeline.
>>169243515
We've had our thrill, now we can just enjoy the thrill of competition, of everyone's hard work on both sides going head to head to see who's belief and effort will be rewarded.
>>169243515
Oh you sweet summer child. Some of us said that in Summer, too, you know.
>>169243683
Cmon anon. /soc/ is full normies and what are the odds that a team could even get three stars in 3 years before any other team gets 2. If we had either of those teams in here right now, PES is too powerful of a beast for them to win the cup.
>>169244421
PES gave /mlp/ two stars, /wg/ and /trv/ one each. Don't fucking trust it.
>>169244584
>implying PES RNG would give /mlp/ a third star
Anon, both precise calibration and a recent 3 stars would never happen. I'd be pretty comfy only giving the villain a single 1/16 chance while I'd rather the other teams who tally up to about 12/16 chance have a chance to shit on them.
We can trust the odds anon.
>>169245181
We really can't. Especially not if the villian does something like, say, steal their opponents' nightly tactics. If you really want to see a villian win a cup just wait three months.
>>169245513

Fair enough. That's just how I think the most entertaining/thrilling cup would go. That and/asp/winningas hat pick
>>169246957
It definitely makes it more thrilling when the villain gets close to winning but fails in the end but it can backfire when PES goes against the scrips (/o/'s year failing in the final for example)

>it can backfire
Yes, true. I can't even describe PES in words.

I'm sorry, but did /sp/ already lose? Oh, that's right. The game isn't even over yet. In fact, it hasn't started. Does not having the lead before the match starts count as a loss? Is that what you're saying? Because if you're saying that I can assure you that you're wrong. Why would you make this topic when the game isn't even on? /sp/ are playing on Saturday and they have been the best team in the 4CC for how many years now? They're playing one of the worst teams in the 4CC who just happen to have a lead because they're feeding off the energy of But First. But you know what? They still fucking suck. /sp/ are one of the best fucking teams in the 4CC, they went 3-0 last autumn and would of won the Babbies if Twain didn't choke. Maybe you should shut the fuck up before you make retarded topics like this. You know why? Because you're going to be embarrassed when /sp/ wins and someone bumps this topic. You are a fucking idiot and you should never make a topic on this board again and I'm fucking serious. 24 hours until knockouts. Get your tips in.
Remember, in this competition, a match that goes to benuldies is considered a draw.
Also remember for Sunday, you tip for the quarter finals, tip who you think wins the final (doesn't matter if it goes to benuldies) and what the score will be after 90/120 minutes. Three points are awarded for either predicting the winner of the cup, or the score in the final (6 points if you nail it perfectly). Sunday tips open at 17:00 UTC on Saturday.

Oh look at that, /o/ just stepped out of bounds short of the goal when they needed to get one, just like /soc/ did. Are you a fucking drunk? Are you retarded? Are you autistic? You are a fucking idiot and you should never make a topic on this board again and I'm fucking serious. I almost have a feeling you're the only guy making all these anti-/sp/ topics because you're a faggot hater who doesn't like the team because they're good. Fuck you, be good at something in YOUR life and then maybe try to troll these fucking teams on the board, like I give a fuck. It's so easy to spot out your threads now, you're a retard. Always doing stupid shit like this. Why don't you try to be a good poster? Just for once? For once in your fucking life try not to make a topic like this. Why the fuck do we even care about managers anyway? The cup is about the BOARDS, not the fucking managers. Teams without managers should be able to participate on autopilot. If a team with a real manager is retarded enough to lose to PES AI, fuck him.
Any board staying "dead" because the circlejerk doesnt believe said person is qualified to be a manager for them is stupid. Again, this isn't about the fucking managers.

>>169320773
>Again, this isn't about the fucking managers.
>Teams without managers should be able to participate on autopilot
Never thought about it, but I somewhat agree with this. If the whole idea that the teams just represent individual boards and that the players are just "facets of board culture" or memes, then it makes sense that the board doesn't just suddenly not exist because of a person not leading it.
The first major problem that others (not myself included) would find with this is that the cup could find itself in positions where humans are in the fetus/babby while computers are in the babby/fetus. But once again, the cup is about the boards, not the teams, so this in my opinion is an irrelevant point.
The second problem (that I would say I have a problem with) is that the aesthetics and shit would be absolutely boring and non-interesting. It would essentially just be no blenders, no real care put towards the team or a stadium or anything.
I could probably think of other problems with this but I have to get back to studying. But good idea anon, that's a good thought that'll really stimulate my central nervous system signals

>The second problem (that I would say I have a problem with) is that the aesthetics and shit would be absolutely boring and non-interesting. It would essentially just be no blenders, no real care put towards the team or a stadium or anything.
dead teams still have blenders and aesthetics done to them. they're just not priorities. in fact, knowing a team isn't dead because they have no manager and they will play soon might even stimulate new blenders and stuff for them. who would do a blender for /fa/ today knowing they won't play shit?
if the human managers are shit enough to be permafetused by PES Ai, seriously, they deserve it. but if people are going to throw a tantrum about it just make dead teams not have medals or something. if you STILL LOSE to them, then just go neck yourself somewhere, no fucking excuses.

>dead teams still have blenders and aesthetics done to them.
This is true. I just don't know exactly if those things may work on PES 17, what problem might occur if that happens, etc... A very boring aesthetic for a team is very likely, and would definitely make games at least a little less entertaining to watch, especially if the board is a very dead board on its own.
>stimulate new blenders
Wew lad, yah this could definitely happen. I mean, yah it would definitely be cool to see some fresh faces, some funny AI moments, and that ---could--- lead to some enthusiasm to contribute to some AI teams anonymously.
>permafetused be PES Ai
I think you underestimate the beast that is the RNG of PES. The fucking team that won 2 out of the last 3 (4 if you count this one) elite cups just got relegated in a group with a pushover and also on goal difference. I could see humans losing to AI every single day. And I wouldn't necessarily say that removing the medals isn't the right way to do it. If we are to make AI teams, then they should have equal stats/capabilities to any other team.
>then just go neck yourself
Wew lad, what year is this, 2014?
>>169322887
>I think you underestimate the beast that is the RNG of PES.
I don't. I know how PES gonna PES and we had proofs of that in previous cups (hello /cm/). Still, most of the times the people facing them acted like total idiots that knew nothing about tactics and divegrass in general, the few people that had a clue about what they were doing trampled over the autopilots. Is it really that bad to make scrubs get their asses kicked by the AI for being scrubs? Even better if this motivates them to leave and keep more teams on autopilot. Would loop back to the point of the aesthetics, where without managers the only way for fisto mcfuckface attentionwhore for a board would be doing blenders-kits-stadium for them

>>169323263
Alrighty, this is my last post before I get back to studying for the day.
>AI filters scrubs and keeps worthy managers alive
Huh. This actually seems pretty decent. But you already know there's going to be assloads of complaints about "why did that group get 2 AI teams when my group didn't get any, not fair". You could say that's just the luck of the draw, but (according to the logic of competent managers being able to kill AI teams) this would be much much more bullshit then just getting paired against "easier" human teams.
>motivates them to leave and keep more teams on autopilot
There would never be a manager (or at least more than 1 or 2) who would go through the embarrassment of leaving the team because they believes the (according to you) very shitty AI who can only beat awful teams would be a more fit manager.
>loops back to the aesthetics
Due to what I was saying earlier about managers not leaving for AI, this probably wouldn't happen, so I wouldn't be concerned about losing aesthetics due to managers dropping. But yes, I'm a whore for good aesthetics and player models and stadiums.
So to sum it up: This is what I think of your idea
A team being in or out of the cup due to popularity, attendance, etc... should not be a thing.
A team being in or out of the cup regardless of having human managers can be argued for, but the problems of aesthetics, bullshit "freebie" group stages, and other things arise and seem to be at least significantly problematic.
I love this idea though anon, I would love to at least hear what Lear thinks of it (whether or no he likes it or dislikes it).

>this is a rule where? its not on the wiki, so stop making shit up.
It's the reason why /trash/ and /qa/ won't get teams under the current /merit/. It should be put on the wiki so we don't get someone asking for /trash/ every thread.
At most there should be a viewer vote to nominate which teams could receive AI-controlled autopilot slots. Nobody wants to see shit like /lgbt/ or /hr/, so adding in every ded teem would be stupid as shit and lower the entertainment level. But, I do miss Autopilot /cgl/ and would kind of like to hear ELEKTRONIK again.
Question is, who makes the tactics? What level should they be made at? Should they be given the best tactics one can think of, a more middling tactic, or one that would be easier to beat?
Do you give every dead team the same tactic (as was done in spring '15) or do they each get a different one? And if they differ, how do you decide which one gets which? It'd be biased any which way you go, in that case.
Plus, do we let any into the elite cup too? I don't have a problem with it personally, but I know a lot of people were against it in Summer '15 because it "lowered the level of competition" and things like that.
>>169325428

Autopilots have always been given random tactics from actual teams. /cgl/ was Juventus.

>>169325428
>Do you give every dead team the same tactic (as was done in spring '15)
Spring 15 ded team tactics were literally just whatever the team they overwrote had. If the ded team had actual tactics (like, say, Juve or Milan) they could legitimately top a favorable babby group draw, maybe even stay elite if the autopilot actually got a manager who was willing to ride the autopilot train wherever it took themyou know who you are. If they had something useless (like AZ Alkmaar) their only hope was to beat a team that somehow pulled off the feat of being even worse than them and a good run for them would be not finishing last in their groupyou also know who you are. If f4r or someone else did the same thing now, every ded team would be the exact same diamond 4-4-2 with (likely) a bench of a second GK and all CBs.If we ever do autopilots again, we should throw every formation possible in PES (yes, even 2-3-5 and ebin memes like the b and McBox) in randomizer and whichever one it lands on is the formation the autopilot gets. Also random.org sliders.
>>169326351
People also forget that the EDIT file for PES 16 and PES 17 are completely different. There's no such thing as "The team they overwrote" anymore.

Ded teams should be allowed if they can prove board interest enough. Being a manager can seem intimidating to outsiders so it's believable a team could have interest in the cup but no one steps up to manage.Obviously teams like /ic/ and /diy/ deserve to be dead but teams like /sci/, /cgl/, and /fa/ would be entertaining to have if they can prove interest.
>>169327307
You could probably hold a poll on some of those boards, if the mods would allow it, and if you could get above 35% interest or so, you'd probably be alright to start managing.

>fisto mcfuckface attentionwhore for a board would be doing blenders-kits-stadium for them
Alright, I wanted to reply to this thing specifically to just because it was on my mind. But yah, I definitely believe that there may be people involved and (at least later on) wanting to get attention, and I think I'm actually somewhat a case study of that.
I'm not a manager or tester for /myteam/, however I did make some aesthetics and stuff for the team. I initially went into making stuff in a very anonymous matter, but I noticed myself getting into a bit of a shilly attitude about the cup when I realized I was a little upset that a promo I made for day 6 this cup wasn't getting included, so I started flinging a bit of spaghetti in the chat in a message. Luckily there was the archiver MerkaST to let me know about my shilling in the chat and essentially told me to quit it. It kind of put me back in check, kinda wish I could thank him for that, maybe I'll try to find him on implyingrigged and tell him thanks for keeping me from further going off the deep end.
But the reason I brought that up is because I feel it relates to the whole thing you were saying about the attention whores doing stuff for the team. I can't speak for all the mostly selfless anons who make cup stuff without the attitude I was starting to begin to develop. But yep, it's definitely evident in people like May "Fill 'er up, please" Dave, who said shit like "I didn't want to make this about me, but if that's what they want to do then I'll make it about me." as well as a couple others. I'm huge for aesthetics, but in regards to that statement you made, yah this cup could definitely do better with fewer attention whores, and I'm sure people who just want to selflessly make content will find a way to take their spot. I'd definitely prefer a less attention-seeking attitude to the cup over some aesthetics, but thankfully it doesn't really seem like too many people are doing this for attention.
Guys, /qa/ team when? As a longtime and genuine /qa/ user I feel our board deserves a spot in this tournament. Go /qa/ - Otak- I mean Questions ans Answers!

>>169330127

>>169328909
>normally think of managers
Yah, now that I think of it, I guess the attentionwhores more or less does lie on the managers rather than aesthetics people. Perhaps maybe because they tend to be a little more known because they're the one's fighting for the game, but more likely I guess I was just kind of throwing "anyone who does anything at all for the cup" all into the same collective and then making a conclusion on one part of that collective. In that case, then there would be even less aethetics lost at the sake of sacking attentionwhores for bots (which probably wouldn't happen if the managers are attentionwhores anyway, kind of goes against the purpose), which would actually be even better.
>>169330127

Hello everyone. A new type of fantasy football is in town. One-day fantasy football. RIGKINGS is now LIV.
Rules rundown, doc below has more:
-Players get 40 rigbux to spend
-Players may pick up to 4 4CC players, medals only from each of the 16 teams.
-Players that are expected to score more (initially based off of group stage) will cost more.
-Goals, assists, cards (yellow and red weighted the same), rating and MotM tallies are counted.
-Earn back rigbux for each point.
-Points reset after each ROUND of the knockouts. Player cost adjusts based on their performance in the previous round.
Here's the doc where it's organized:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QqKv5Zi_L571BysUGcU6I3DXU8nPd8IkS2ay9j5MNcA/edit#gid=0
If you wanna play, list and name and your team here. or alternatively just edit the Entries sheet. Have fun!
>>169341882
added note on the sheets: check the "Def" sheet for costs/player stats for each round. The GS Rank sheet shows the stats each player had in the group stage. Ordered by total points. The players on "Def" are ordered by team, then medal, then cost.
Also default cost = group stage points / matches played * .68 (one standard deviation) as a crack expectation for what each player should score each game. Subsequent matches will change the cost as such: points that round / cost - 1. So if a player is worth 9 points and scores 9 points, their cost won't change. If they are worth 9 points and score 18 points, their cost will increase by (18/9)-1, so 1 point.

Unfortunately comfy and the entire concept of unofficial 4cc content got rekt by a circlejerk that had the bright idea that the one thing 4cc desperately needed was round the clock entertainment from a couple of random chucklefucks who had never streamed before.
It's like you want to throw a party and invite one of the popular guys, but then he insists he gets to bring his group of That Guys along or else he wont come, and then they get to the party, smash the shit out of your stereo, unpack a karaoke set and begin badly singing Sinatra's My Way the entire night until no one is left except a couple of faggots who have nowhere else to go.
That is essentially what happened to comfy.
