It's much better than I was expecting going from what people were saying.

I enjoyed the story and it actually got me emotional. The gameplay was fun in a mindless "kill everything on the battlefield" sort of way. At least you move really fucking fast and can cancel every animation so it feels good to keep doing it.

I was one of the few people that liked it a lot.
There are lots of people that dislike the battle system in it, tough it focuses on what holy grail war was supposed to be about - finding out the true name of enemy servant and who is their master, to create a countermeasures against their noble phantasm or exploit a weakness.

The battles are basically a set of rock paper scissors skirmishes, and you know beforehand what are the enemy's pick if you gathered information about their servant. The more you gathered, the easier the fight would go, because more moves would be predicted correctly.

I liked that they put an emphasis on that part.

In Extella, command seals are basically a disposable power up and resurrection, which I dislike, and everyone runs around shouting their name, with literally no investigation and suspense about who is an enemy (because identities of holy grail war participants is not common knowledge and staying hidden would often grant upper hand in upcoming battles).

The $10 set come with a double EXP item, that's pretty useful. Most people have said that the DLC characters are better for post-game though.

There's a DLC item that helps with the grind. The extra characters don't really help I think, though I never bought any DLC as I imported it from NA and I have EU account. Buy them if you like how they look. But I don't also think they have specific little story bits that are fun to always get once in a while, so even if I had access to DLC characters I would probably use originals just for that.

The GPU is 166 Mhz by default, can go up to 222 Mhz. It's very weak by today's standards. With PSV, you need to pull some multi core magic and a lot of trickery to be able to pull off something like Ys 8. Having ~350MB available RAM for your game doesn't help either. There isn't much room for bloat when making games for PSV.
