I can see that, but it doesn't matter (to me, at least). I kind of gave up hope after Color Splash was announced. I may loved the first two games, along with SPM and CS (I kind of hate SS), but I just don't think Nintendo is ever going to bring back the formula that made Paper Mario great at first. So I honestly just started playing Sonic games like a month ago or so after a friend of mine wouldn't shut up about Sonic Mania.

Sonic 1 was pretty schizo in terms of level design and really didn't like that game, but Sonic 2 really improved everything and was an amazing game, Sonic 3 & Knuckles became on of my favorite platformers of all time.

But then I played the adventure games, A1 was ok, A2 was terrible. Question is, where do I go from here? Do I try the handheld games? Do I try Colors and Generations? or should I better wait for Mania?

Try the Advance trilogy. They're pretty good, although 3 is kinda shit. Colors and Generations are great. Rush 1 is amazing, Rush Adventure not so much.

Unleashed is something that you can try if you want, and it has some really fun stages, but most of the game is tedious.

While the pre-reset characters are kind of a mixed bag as far as quality goes, if you could bring one pre-reboot character to the post-SGW reality, who would it be?

it was pretty jarring when I saw Knuckles. S3K gave me the impression that while he was a bit dense, Knuckles liked to use trickery to go around rather than just being the muscle guy, but maybe that's just me.

A lot of things went too dark for my tastes, with cities being flooded, that whole stuff with the backstory of chaos, dunno, story in A1 was much darker than the one of the genesis titles for all the wrong reasons.

And A2 was even worse than the first one in that regard, Robotnik's taking the world hostage with a giant space laser made me laugh since he unintentionally reminded me of Dr. Evil. Shadow felt like he came right from a fan OC, and the Maria thing also felt out of place.

That being said the tone in Unleashed is pretty good, & while the dialogue in Colors & Generations was ass, the tone is more fitting.

I liked Tails since he's still portrayed as this prodigy kid who can create just about anything that his great mind can think of, but he's still a kid and thus, naive and innocent.

The story of Sonic Adventure actually has it's roots in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. The Japanese manual for the game describes in brief the history an ancient civilization that were wiped out after trying to abuse the power of the Master Emerald and the seven Chaos Emeralds. It takes a lot for me to hate a game, I can see what the adventures games tried to do, but they failed, at least in my opinion, thanks to experimenting with the new 3D mechanics, and the story telling.

If I had to say games that I absolutely despise, it would be those games that try to be as close to movies as possible, implementing bland, uninspired gameplay just for the sake of telling a story, like Quantum Break which btw, ran horribly with a goddamn 1070. Nothing wrong with wanting to have a good script in a videogame, but jesus christ, use the medium to tell that story rather than fill everything with cinematics.

I don't think you get me. I don't mind if a game has a dark tone, some of my favorite games of all time like pathologic, silent hill 2, REmake, Half Life, Quake, Doom, FEAR, Fallout and Planescape all have a dark tone, and I love them for that

But I don't like when a series that had 4 games who clearly were designed to be family friendly suddenly changes the tone for the darker approach that the adventure games had

If the sonic series had always been as dark as A2 and then became light hearted, I would have had the same problem. My gripe with the adventure games isn't necessarly the darker tone, but the inconsistency when compared to what was already established.

Left is the style I've used in previous drawings, more of a slick sharper look, and Right is closer to his quills in the games.

For the most part. Metal Sonic is going to be in the game. Tails story will be the same as Sonic's despite shorter since Sonic will have the extra stage for Super Sonic Battle.

Knuckles will retain his super form but neither Sonic nor Knuckles will get Hyper Forms since Iizuka made it known that the 'word of god' that Hyper Emeralds are no more.
But Knuckles will still battle the enhanced and more deadly version of Metal Sonic MK2 with the Master Emerald as the main focus.

Overall the gameplay will be decent and the storytelling while not vocal its still present. Will be decent. But it will not overtake on the whole Death Egg armageddon or Precursor Legacy foretelling that Sonic 3 K complete had.

I don't get this game, or many other games along these lines. Someone clearly had the talent to sprite and code to put together a Sonic beat-em-up of reasonable quality, which hasn't really been done before. But then they decided "let's make it a porn game" and then "let's add an OC". And just like seemingly every other porn game, all the hot stuff only comes about from you taking damage or losing, meaning the entire purpose of making it sexual is contradictory to the fact that it's a game that people will want to play and beat.

The reboot is kind of my first real exposure to the comics, but dammit I didn't think I'd love Big so much.

Of all the Sonic animations, the OVA is the best-looking, and the closest to the games. The focus is on the game characters, with the new characters having fairly non-invasive roles, and the story being based around Sonic vs. Metal is a great centerpiece.

AoStH and Boom are funny, and X's adaptations of SA1/2 were cool (despite all of X's problems), but there's good reason the OVA is the most acclaimed Sonic animation.

Finally got around to finishing tagging the booru and removing duplicates and non /sthg/ stuff.

Might go through the archives to give it another update if I'm not busy and fireden is cooperative. If not, I'll just wait for the ride archive to update like the last few times.

Ok, so having watched the entire video, they answered a question that I sent them about Knuckles and Mighty's strength. It was apparently a pretty lengthy question, and I am glad that he went into detail answering it.

The basic jist of the answer is that the reason Ian emphasizes Mighty as being rediculously srong over Knuckles (he also made it clear that he is not confiming anything on whichever one is stronger) is because it gives Mighty something that makes him stand out, since the games only ever shown him being another Sonic, with SegaSonic Arcade only really having a bit of animations and stuff expressing the idea of a strong guy. Compared to Knuckles, who has every reason to be much much more important, from being the last echidna to guardian of the Master Emerald. At the end of the day, Knuckles is still the more important one, he's part of the "triple threat", and all that stuff, but all Mighty has is being strong.

Get rid of the royal family drama completely. The plot becomes Sonic, Tails and Amy gathering together and embarking on a road trip to fight Robotnik's forces while trying to find "the true king", who holds a magical artifact that's prophesized to be able to defeat Robotnik for good. Aside from that, changing the voice actors and getting rid of the musical numbers, not much else needs to be changed. It'd actually be interesting to see Tails re-imagined as a street rat, giving him both a mischievous streak as well as a practical source for his tech abilities, as well as an Amy that drops her crush on Sonic completely in favor of Sonia's personality. Hell, they can even keep the instruments as long as there's no stupid songs.

While Silver is far from being my least favourite character, I've had a few ideas about fixing his gameplay, because admittedly, his style was the weakest part of 06

First, make him as a fast as Sonic and Shadow. No questions.

Next is instead of that stun move where he slaps the air, it's a full on psychic wave that has range and does damage, and can be upgraded like Shadow's chaos spear at the cost of using a more energy that just grabbing objects.

That dinky-ass little air dash he gets becomes something similar to a speed boost and like in his first cutscene where he shown capable of flying extremely fast, activating it and holding down the button lets silver quickly move through the air until his gauge runs out. It's an alternative to his normal glide. His glide gets more distance, but his dash is faster and he can ram enemies with it similar to a homing attack.

Also remove the end level ball puzzle from Dusty Desert
