I think that Reddit and some are asshurt because they were abusing obviously punishing cards for new players, since in the early game the options to deal with an Axeman or weather are small. Specially when the user doesn't know how to work around the weather pressure. I think someone said that most of the changes are so new players aren't pressured to abandon the game earlier. Which I think is a healthy way to balance a game, specially one in closed beta.

I am interested in getting into this game. What are some good beginner decks I can work towards? Also, how much money do I need to dump into it if I want a decent starter collection?

Nilf-control just isn't clicking with me. Everyone says this is a top tier deck and I see it played regularly on high level streams but I can't make it work despite having all the cards. I think I'm bad at timing cahir is part of it, I know the goal is to "milva" them and buy an extra card but that isn't always possible and I've never liked the ballista especially and this translates to the arbalist. yeah it's 8 value but I know I'm not using the 3 ping properly. And because I'm not murdering enough with my arbalist/cows my medics are often dead or their graveyards are full of silvers.

I just want to be a part of the most advanced civilization in the world, is that so much to ask?

Further balance changes you'd like to see? I'll start.

coral is a nice comparison but consider her against the neutral golds and NR faction golds, because that's where you've got to determine her actual value in deck building,9 to 8 would be nice but perhaps too good, when considered on paper. She's meant to punish row stacking and unfortunatly NR has gotten by with Borkh/gigni without needing Phil and the meta has never stacked rows hard enough to make Radovid want to dig her out, even when siege SK was a thing and swim's dorfs are around right now.

I don't see the problem. We like to complain about balance issues and the like but we don't have the data CDPR does, while as advance players Monster weather decks can be bothersome and dual weather can be annoying cards most of us at certain ranks know how to work around this cards.

But for new players this cards can be oppresive to the extreme of them not enjoying the game at all. For example, I have a friend interested in the game, he was playing the game on my account for a few hours in practice mode and got a feel of the mechanics, I didn't told him to enter multiplayer not even in casual because I am level 41 and even on casual he would face experienced players. But he tried two games and he faced a monster weather deck and a SK self wounding deck. Shit was really bad for him, mostly because he didn't know how to deal with certain cards or when. That is when I realized that most likely CDPR is doing most changes to make the game not as punishing to new players.

I wonder how gearing up for making gwent standalone went at CDPR, I doubt many of their RPG devs were super hardcore into CCGs and their design enough to take on this project, probably a lot of new hires for this project.

I would say henselt needs a bit of love, his combo cards are pretty shit and need steam to get rolling, but he's not as bad as Ge'els or pre-buff Bran. He does decently against nilfgaard since he can counter rot tossers.

Serrit is good, never played Cynthia but you need some skill to play Serrit.

I see so much whining and entitlement all over the place about how does CDPR expect people to continue playing the game, time invested, etc. This is a beta, and a closed one at that. You were given a free invite to play and help test the game, the developers have been very transparent with everything that is going to happen including wipes, etc.
I know this isn't an uncommon thing, especially on the internet and in gaming, concerning entitlement. But try to have at least an open and adult mind, and not the attitude that requires the stamping of your feet and yelling anytime something slightly inconveniences you.
EDIT: This post got upvoted and a lot more engagement than I expected, so let me clarify since a lot of people are assuming I'm one of those people who thinks no one should critique the game or post about problems/bugs. I'm not saying that at all, and I've clarified it more lower in the post. Thanks guys, and enjoy the Gwent stuff.

Cahir is good, but be beware : you'll be fucked by it more time that you think. I mostly play it on the second or third round, as it's a gold card, and it's really worthless as Emhur capacity IS worthless on the second or third round. It'll give you enemy an advantage a lot of time.

There needs to be a deck people who aren't getting good luck with RNG to assemble meta Skellige or NR decks to play and be competitive if they're smart about it.

Weather monsters was that deck.

Now it's get Wounding Skellige cards, get NR control cards, or get rekt.

But you need to get wins to get better cards, so getting rekt means either playing and losing every game or giving up. Guess how long people are gonna keep playing.

Weather already had a lot of counters because it was predictable as fuck, but rather than up your game and be smarter people bitched CDPR out until they fixed the problem for them.

The problem with that is that it punish unexpirienced players the most. Weather was too frustrating for new players to deal with. That is the reason cdpr nerfed weather and the axemen.

Now that's impossible.

First it was PFI, but they bitched about that instead of just wreking it with a well-timed Lacerate, Scorch, or Frost so that got nerfed. People moved to Monsters, they bitched about that, it got nerfed.

But there's now no counter-play to Wounding Skellige because they can undo debuffs to Axemen so easily, and the only counter to Radovid Control was also playing Radovid Control but getting better draws.

The answer wasn't to remove options, it was to add them, but people were demanding nerfs instead of suggesting buffs to other decks to increase the amount of viable strats.

I got so tired of getting reamed by Rad deck after Rad deck that I went and dropped $40 on the game reasoning the wipe would reset things and give me a chance to hit the ground running, and my 30 kegs yielded all of one Gold card, the standard Francesca you get in the starter pack. So I wound up adding about 500 scraps to my pile, not even enough to buy *one* of the golds needed for Mad Rad.

It would be less brutal if the RNG was better, or you got more kegs and scraps, but you don't.

Milled all my other cards to make a more or less complete Radovid Control deck, hope I can start winning games again now

You can assemble a decent dwarven deck in a few days, devour monsters isnt bad either.
