I've been asking about this a few threads earlier and I don't think so. I basically wanted to just change the ground texture to the ice sheet.

I would still like it since the ice sheet itself has disgusting mud around the mountains and such but that's easy to edit in god mode, it's purely for aesthetic reasons. And my colonists have been surviving remarkably well on ice sheet since I built hydroponics ASAP and with VG you can substitute tofu for meat.

I still miss the trees, I'm going to make a little indoor park with skylights later.

Happens a lot to me as well, especially as my settlement gets bigger. At a certain point, I need several people on full-time food production, three full time cooks/butchers, at least two dedicated janitors, and two haulers, and there's still other tasks that go unfilled because those are just the ones required to survive.

I think I could probably fix some of it by setting zones and manually assigning/unassigning workers to tasks, but that gets to be pretty cumbersome after a while.

It's supposed to be deadly without treatment but easily overcome by medicine and a decent doctor. IIRC you only require a treatment quality of 50~60% to halt its progress. Also only the curable STDs can be caught from the environment, so HIV (and herpes) can only be caught from an infected pawn.

Make sure you prioritise having at least one really good crafter.

Masterwork weapons are SIGNIFICANTLY better than "normal" or otherwise. Clothing also gives good insulation against gunshots. If you've got a guy with a masterwork assault rifle, devil-strand, and kevlar, you can take a fair few hits and keep going. That's how I've dealt with late game high numbers raids.

I usually keep at least one or two insanity lances and keep cycling exotic goods traders too, so I can kill off anything I find scary. If you can't befriend tribals, try befriend bears. A line of bears is superior to a line of tribals.

With the help of the actual author of ADS, i made a compatibility patch for Lamias and Onis. This is made with the most recent update of ADS which he just released.
It changes the skeleton config of Onis to be more inline with humanoids and adds even bionic lamia tails for your robosnek needs.

I don't know about the "needs tending" thing. I think it might be a bug in the core game and in any case it seems harmless. The major bug with warts was that after immunity developed the severity declined to like 0.01% but then the infection never disappeared. So I can't say if it's still bugged based on that screenshot but you could check the severity in dev mode.

I have finally moved people from the cave floor to actual beds, can I get some advice on the overall layout please.

I wanted to make some combination of a research room and garden in the big empty room to the right of the hallway (there's no mountain roof on the square around the lamp), but I figured I should make things more compact instead. Gardens on the right will probably be moved to the right of the kitchen, and I'll put industrial stuff on the lower right.

Ship will go outside on the upper left.

What kind of rooms do I need in the base, especially close to the main hallways? Probably an armory with combat outfits? Anything else?

I usually make primarily cloth early on for that reason. Easy to get a ton of the same material.

Otherwise, muffalo are a good target. They usually come in groups, and give a pretty good amount of leather.

Once you get infrastructure up, clothing material stops being much of an issue. I've got a pretty sizable devilstrand farm, and have a perpetual ~1500 reserve of the stuff, this is with a full bionic autism traits rank 20 tailor, going near constantly. Because it takes so long to grow, it's minimal effort for growers too (unlike cloth).

High numbers low quality (if easily replaceable) > small numbers high quality. Basically, if your animal gets swarmed in combat, it'll lose. I use them for when the fight looks like it'll go badly for my shooters, or they're trying to melee rush me. They've not lost yet. A few heavily injured, but no deaths.

It's also good if they can survive on not just meat. Means you can just let them roam and graze as they want. My elephants just roam and eat grass, and they're big enough that cougars never try hurt them. The bears just roam and presumably eat the same, but they'll also hunt anything up to muffalo. Worst injury from letting them do this was an ostrich ripping ones foot off, nothing much else though. Considering I put zero effort into maintaining them (kibble is for snakes/toxic fallout), and have them locked entirely outside of my food/fields, it's a pretty good deal. They also keep reproducing, so I get more periodically.

They usually don't eat their prey entirely either, so I get quite a few half eaten muffalo in my freezer.

Focus haulers too. It's amazing when stacked. Just don't let them haul anything edible (carnivores might be good here), because they'll try eat it first.

To maintain this herd, I've got one guy fully dedicated to training. They were an absolute shit tier colonist (no dumb labor, no passions apart from art and animals), and it was their only skill. It's proven worth it though. Also, make sure whoever is their master is stable, and keep them safe at all cost. Best armor, back-line of any fight. If they die I'm pretty sure the animals lose their shit.

Also; the snakes are a meme I'm experimenting with, I dunno if they're any good. Supposedly they reproduce quickly. They eat next to nothing. I've let them go at kibble for a week, and they've eaten maybe 100 between them.

Make sure you get hauling on them - it's a lot of effort, but in the long run assuming you keep your boars alive, it's worth it.

If they're attacking shooters, try give the shooters minimal advantages. Draw them in close before releasing. Going over an open field usually leads to more losses / wounding.

I've got a little bunker complex set up, and when that isn't viable to hold, I pull out of it, and then let the animals go once the enemies are trickling through the small doorways. Basically minimizing their chances to fire. Like, if it's a nasty raid, I'll put snipers in the bunkers - focus fire any rocket-launchers of grenadiers, then pull out before taking return fire.

Good luck though. I've had a ton of fun with animals. Would entirely recommend it. I find myself constantly cycling exotic goods traders, looking for more. Because of them I haven't needed to set up a killbox, so combat is still enjoyable too.

Finally left the rock after 548 days, would be a lot longer if i didn't install ultra deep core mining mod for the last year.

If it buys and sells animal livestock, as well as slaves of all things, why wouldn't it take regular human people into its cryptosleep caskets?
Also, caskets are self-sufficient, they don't need to be installed to any source, not even power. For why Large Marble Statues are moveable but cryopods (among plenty of wooden worktables that would be in the same if not lower weight category) is a purely arbitrary decision by Tynan.

A lot of things in this game are restricted due to game balance, but are "explained" by what amounts to "space magic". I know this game is in its very early stages of developement but Tynan keeps filling plotholes with dumb shit he pulls out of his ass instead of "I haven't gotten to that part of the game yet, maybe in a future update i'll come up with something cohesive".

It makes guns feel like guns. Long ranged and deadly. Also lets you double the aim time for more accuracy, switch between single shot/burst/auto modes for guns where that's a thing, and adds a suppression mechanic. Unlike ammo, those ARE useful things to toggle in different scenarios.

It also adds embrasures, which are basically just better sandbags but if you wall in an area with them where raiders can't path to it breaks their combat code, so people like to do that and then bitch that it's too easy.

It is not contaminated, don't worry. Toxic Fallout is pretty much free lunch. It also is not very dangerous since it builds up slowly and cools down after a while, so you can safely send your guys to haul the dead creatures as long as you let them stay indoors for a while afterwards.

You lose rest effectiveness with stone beds, but that's irrelevant. Check if the bed has an art tab. Most furniture and weapons get an engraving and become art if they're of exc+ quality, and colonists may observe furniture to increase joy.
Normally it's not a problem, but with beds you can have the occasional situation where a pawn wants to observe it just as the owner tries to sleep. In that case the owner can't reserve the bed since it's technically already in use and just sleeps wherever he is.

Took 5 people instead of 3 as a challenge. (Food is hard to get, more moths to feed)
Replaced the starting weapons with fire weapons. (Incendiary launchers and Molotovs)
Brought a little extra wood. Because no trees.
And a Large uranium statue to use as our groups religious alter.


A game mode I want to try is:
No weapons, all pacifists, landing in the rain forest with 4 elephants.

It's a pain, especially early on. Giving them a horseshoes pin might help. Pic related is my mid-game prison that worked really well mood-wise. Might be difficult to set up in the first year though.

I only really bother selling them to slavers later in the game, when you can hold mood with a decent prison. Early, it's easier to just harvest their organs. It seems like slavers care a lot about the health of the prisoner too, so if they turn up when they've just tried a prison break, you don't seem to get nearly as much.

It's not that bad. Just make sure you restrict your guys to being mostly indoors, restrict animals too. With animals, you can go put some wooden pillars out, and make a roofed section of grass. That'll keep them fed if you don't have food stockpiled for them.

Fallout is comfy. Makes a good time to catch up on crafting, stonecutting, mining, etc.

Vanilla. Go to the health tab, and then over to operations. Set an operation bill. Make sure you're using the highest quality medications you have available. Preferably glitter-world, or at the least standard, for your own colonists. Try avoid herbal. For prisoners, anything goes. If you're still early game, make a 1x3 room, just big enough for a bed. Put sterile tiles down in it. Clean it, then go operate with your best surgeon.

Surgery success is extremely arbitrary, but doing those things will give you the best chances of not accidentally crushing your colonists skull while installing a peg-leg.

If you're going to harvest organs, just beware you'll take mood hits (3x organ harvested assuming you take a kidney, lung, and heart, and 1x prisoner died), so only do it if you can take those. It makes alright money though, especially before you can get crafting or drug operations on a good scale. It can be nice to have a spare heart in storage too. Pic related, it's saved at least one of my colonists before.

Yeah, exactly the issue that made me install it. I had a husky that would just periodically haul some food to the hopper. Warden never needed to interact with anyone I wasn't trying to recruit. Definitely way better than manually feeding them.

They develop tolerance to the effects of the drug. That's my experience with smokeleaf at least. I don't want to end up at a point where I'm paying X amount of silver in lost profits for a tokenistic benefit.

Withdrawal mood debuffs are absolutely savage too (I never take addict prisoners for this reason, they get 12 gauge painkillers instead), so I don't want to get to a point where I might risk going through those.

Non drafted guys only run to put out fires in your home area.
They will let a small spark turn into a raging fire that encircles your entire camp if it's not in the home area.

I have sensors and power switches and whatever as I already said, and I have pressure plates, so I can detect when an enemy steps somewhere and turn on the furnace, but how do I use this to close the door behind them so that they fry in the room?

late reply, but it was a psychic ship. The mechanoids were fairly tethered to the ship, not an assault.

I ended up mortaring the scythers into submission. The best part was that it tended to incapacitate rather than kill, so I made an absolute killing off selling their blades. I only had to shoot 1 or 2 scythers (it got to a point where I saw all the incap scythers and figured it wasn't worth mortaring). They were pretty badly hurt, so it only took 1 or 2 rounds each. I just kited the centipedes.

It wasn't a bad raid really. The AI really needs to begin an assault if it's getting kited or mortared. Only part that made me afraid was when my sniper who opened it had to dodge ~5 scyther rounds getting back to base.

Recently started a new game because I got RJW, Randy Intense, tribe start settled in Tundra, started with 4 pawns because the first one was euthanized on day 1 for ceremonial reasons, have ~10 days of growing, the 2 nymphs that have joined have been euthanized and turned into fertilizer because I can't have them yet.

Disease took 2 colonists, I'm low on meds, still have one or two of them using bows instead of guns because I don't have enough ammo yet, finally was able to turn enough chunks into stone to give them individual rooms, now they are pissed because their rooms suck.

I put one colonist into only research, thanks to mod my tech level has advanced from neolithic to industrial because of how many researched items I've completed. Went straight for Geotermal when I reached it.

Currently building a better guest room (that will include nymph red light area) and making plans for the roofed greenhouse, where I plan to kickstart my drug cartel operation after I have a steady supply of veggies for food.

Got the Hunt for me mod, my huskies constantly need treatment, one already died from infection, but they sometimes bring home dead muffalos and I can expect at least 1 small animal (hare, arcticfox or pig)

Randy has been good, the weather was acceptable this year and was able to harvest the camps a lot, will still struggle by the middle of winter like last time. Raids have been easy because my wealth is super low, planning on keeping it that way until a steady supply of bullets, food and medicine can be achieved.

I've had really good luck with mortars.
You can take an absolute shitter crew and just have at least 1 EMP mortar and one person absorbing blows with a personal shield (to a degree, multiple charge rifle shots close together will fuck the shield up).
Managed to take out 2 centipedes 3 scythers with a crew of 5 untrained colonists -- one of which had the no violence trait (she was the one with the shield).
