That would be a sweet idea, but it would be expensive as shit and Zenimax is probably shortening their leash after the poor reception of Fallout 4.

I'd prefer a prologue where you get dumped into a named character to discover the plot and die off in a cheap way before you make your own character and choose whether or not to pursue the main story or go your own way.

Gotta say, don't use 3. I don't know how bad 2 is about it, but 3 dumps a lot of stupid shit into certain areas. Wish I had a screenshot of the stupidly huge cages in the inner section of the Legion fort with sobbing captures. They claim they're enhancing the lore, but doing the bare minimum amount of thinking.

what you need: Stealth boy and grx implants. If you dont have either one it is impossible. I am pretty sure there s a video about it. you hide behind one of the turrets and as soon as he is behind it you put alll your grx implants and walk the fuck out of the door. as soon as you reach the door, the alarms will sound. this is easy to fuck up and you may get unlucky tons of times. I wish armor and clothing replacers were more consistent for different body types. Like, some of them, like Type 3, have replacers for basically everything. Type 6m has a decent amount, Type 3m has only vanilla and a few from DLCs but not all of them. It really sucks, because Type 3 is really not that good looking for some stuff, namely Joshua Graham's armor. But I don't like body types that constantly change. At least 3 and 3m are similar enough to ignore it but still. 6m is my favorite but just not enough mods that fit the armor to it.

There isn't much problem with compatibility between armor replacers, the big problems are with those armor mods that have mix and match parts, as they're going to clip really badly if they weren't made for that exact body type, or at least a very, very close one. Armors that don't show skin can be any shape you want though. But then there's the problem of if you get a specific variation on Type 3, but all the replacers were based off of a different variation. Hell, I compared Exeter's replacers for 3 and NV, since 90% of the base game's armor are the same, and found that a small handful of the meshes had been updated with larger breasts for the NV release.

The problem is that we don't have the proper tools for bodyslide and outfit studio to make conversions with. Sliders and conversion references I mean. Someone might be working on these things, but I only heard vague stuff.

Yeah, I did extensive research into that. Really weird. But not that surprising that the base engine has a bug like that. I had heard something about someone making the low poly meshes for it last year, but everyone said "wait until FNVLODGen is finished", and it's finished, and I've heard nothing. I uninstalled it purely because I couldn't stand not having trees show up in the LOD.

I thought about making that Plas-man's reason for supervillainy.

He, and his wife, whos superhero named was Captain Plasma, went out to fight raiders for the good of the Commonwealth. But he was defeated and he watched as they tied him up with chains, restraining him, while they throw his wife, still alive, into a trash compactor, and crush her to death. His rage at this causes him to bust solid steel chains and murder every last raider, and turn into a supervillain with a hatred of everyone in the wasteland.

BUT THEN I THOUGHT, that seems to be the norm, the whole "pained backstory" thing. I thought about making Plas-Man simply a farmer who USED to be a superhero, but hung up his superhero stuff after settling down with, say, Captain Plasma, and having a child. So now all he does is farm and have a lot of high tech gear in his basement. Maybe a simple quest of fighting some particularly nasty raiders that broke his wife's legs in a trash compactor, and his wife has to be in a wheelchair for the rest of her days because of it, and he decides you should take his place as Plas-Man. Eh, but this option would require a lot of dialog to be made.

I'm in the middle of a James Bond-esque run, off the premise that my courier was obsessed with spy novels and after taking a shot to the noggin his memories and dreams about them became muddled with his real life ones and now thinks he is one.

Only wear Formal Wear or Dapper Gambler clothes, except if you need a disguise. Use only semi-auto pistols and gadget-y things for weapons. Take all female companions, then ditch them the second their questlines are over. Focus skills are guns and explosives for combat, speech for being a sauve motherfucker, and sneak for stealthy shit.

I'm up to level 16 on this one. Stealth and non-violent progress are a big part of this run because even with a fully modded out .45 Auto pistol fights get tough fast. Pretty fun so far.

There probably IS a way but I don't have enough time right now to learn how to do it. And I'm only guessing because they worked with that sex mod, and their skeleton is 99.9% identical to humans. I think it might even be the same skeleton, just differently shaped.

I don't get why people assume FO3 has limitations regarding roleplaying. Beyond growing up in 101 and having an idealistic father, there is no limitation on your character's personality, motivations, or build. Even the main quest has no canon urgency forced on you.

Obviously NV is the most open as Courier has no backstory except you were a courier and visited The Divide a few times, everything else is entirely optional, but at the same time the gameworld itself pushes you along a bit more linearly than FO3 does.

Main problem is with this whole Dad/Son thing in F3/4.
In NV you could RP a down to earth Courier that wont go and chase someone who shot him in the head or the other way around - vindictive psycho who will kill anyone obstructing your way to your shooter.
In F3/4 its hard to justify "hey lets do side shit fo 90 hours" especially given the lack of dialogues that are something other than "muh shaun".

I have never beaten FO4, and I have some general questions.

I've had the game since release, but put it off for a long while. I already know the ending, so there's no point in spoiling anything.

My questions are, I've only been to Diamond City once in one of my playthroughs. Every other playthrough I'm doing nothing but radiant minutemen quests.

I created another new file and did the same damn thing. However, this time I really feel like the first thing I should do after saving Preston is going to Diamond City and doing a few things of what you're supposed to do there.
Since in my last file I only did a couple things for Piper and just restarted the game.

How does Diamond city prepare my character for the world? I don't want to erase my file and just do it, and have to erase again because of silly things. But I'm essentially doing something I've never done here.

Entered as Silver Shroud and everything, tried Jet and shit but none of it worked. Good few hours I kept reloading.

Not sure what it was that I did but I killed the protectron you can see from the lobby through the window, then as soon as I left the second lift instead of picking them off I mowed all the turrets and robots and raiders down as fast as I could before they engaged each other in combat, while sat in the lift. Did it again as I came to the next turret room.
No quest failure. Thank fuck it's over.

I think you're overexaggerating the effect growing up in a vault has, and you're exaggerating the urgency of the FO3 main quest. Especially how you're forced out of 101 from a lot of contentious situations, and going from a cushy vault life into the wasteland is a paradigm shift enough to argue that it's possible to become a raider/cannibal/etc. even because of that.

Hell, my most fun playthrough was a repressed tomboy lesbian who was mad about unrequited affections for Amata, and feeling betrayed by her father and mad at the authority of the vault for the whole events with the breakout. So trying to find some focus in the new life in the wasteland, befriends Lucy, and while helping her, meets the Family, and through their charisma (especially Briana's), finds "when in Rome" to be a good philosophy regarding cannabalism.

Also finding Dad isn't as urgent as you make it out to be. Obviously finding answers would be a big character motivation (why it's the main quest), but there isn't any immersion breaking if your play style doesn't focus on that, as perhaps you decided while answers would be nice, fuck dad for betraying you and fuck the vault life for them being a bunch of snobby fucks, I got a wasteland to get rich from, or save with my educated upbringing, or fuck over because they are wasteland trash, whatever I want.

Also gameworld wise, FO3 is much more open from the start than NV is; I'd argue early game NV is much more railroaded than FO3 is. You can say "muh dad" all you want, but early NV is "muh chip" or "muh checkered coat" in the early game, and you can't deny it. Not that I'm implying NV isn't the better game (by far), or that the main quest is ridiculously open once you actually get to The Strip, but early on you are railroaded, despite the open background.

You should first be asking what your character's end game is.

Then once you've figured that out, is there anything at Diamond city that can help you reach that end game.

Example

Diamond city is basically a hub, and thus it functions very different than preston and his radiant quests
There are definitely plots to be had there, but you're basically there for two companions, and one plot point. After that, you move on to the next city.
Diamond City is very useful if you're focusing on settlements early on, as the traders there are always flush with caps and have shipment orders you can purchase. But since few people can afford that much that early, Diamond City becomes most useful a bit later.

But, if you go the brotherhood route, their base basically replaces Diamond City as your main trading hub.
Also, don't get hooked on the minuteman radiant quests unless you're real serious about settlement building. I only beat the game last month because I did the very same thing.

Getting your ass kicked in survival mode is most of the fun, I think. Building holdouts at settlements where you can resupply, slowly pushing into the wasteland further and further, each combat being intense as you can die instantly to a lucky headshot. It's thrilling.

Outside setting the stage for what was to come, the original Fallout was pretty disappointing. You just never feel the sense of scale/threat the Master is supposed to represent. Most encounters where a couple of molerats or scorpions.

It's possible but difficult.

You have to avoid the gunners out front, kill/avoid some difficult enemies (ants, raiders), and finally face off against a high level boss in power armor.

Colter is actually doable as long as you collect enough jet/psychojet/jetfuel beforehand to spend the entire battle sped up

Oh yeah, there's also a room that you have to navigate through that has a bunch of rad roaches and hight constant rads so think about that too

Surprisingly, that's after I culled about 50 mods from that list. At 255 plugins, I was getting some stability issues. I did have a few merged patches, but most of those mods are a fucking mess, file-wise. It took me like 45 minutes just to make one of the three merged patches, simply because there was a fuckton of errors, or files that required some seemingly unrelated files, that conflicted with other shit.

I disagree, the choices in Fallout 4 may be shallow but it's far more choice than they've offered since Daggerfall. The bayonets do a thrust attack in first person so we might even get spears too.

Idk about all of them, you could reuse a lot of stuff from F4, for instance the wasteland around NW is similar to a lot of the map in NV. Cars, a lot of the prewar buildings, the metal shacks, all the armour and some of the guns. It would be no harder than making the assets for NV originally.

PA is kinda useless at the start, but later on you find cores up the ass, so it doesn't become much of an issue. I think the reason some people like PA is because it actually feels like power armor instead of just another piece of equipment. Though Bethesda made a mistake of throwing it at you at the very start of the game.

Did my original playthrough using PA pretty much constantly, never had a reason to leave other than when crafting. I guess nuclear physicist combined with the leveled loot helps. Only ran out once, but that was when I was fairly low level.

Not him, but he's right as far as the battery limit goes. While durability is something that should have been kept in, PA was established to be able to last a long ass time. It shouldn't burn through fusion cores like that.

Ignoring the fact Fallout is 80s not 50s, this just ain't 50's. This is some weird green blender stapled to a handle. In 3/NV design was mediocre, but this is just awful. The Plasma Defender works about 3000x better.

Yep I'm using that too, fuck. I started way down at Egret Marina, and had no trouble getting workbenches until now. Somehow I got Sanctuary once but can't replicate it now after loading an old save. There's a console command for bench ownership(SetPapyrusVar OwnedByPlayer 1) but it doesn't seem to give you proper access. You can build, at least.

Is that map accurate? I thought Shady Sands was more like the Fresno area, not in the eastern Sierras.

Also, Van Buren had a lot of neat ideas, I especially liked Mesa Verde, having tribals who are tech-savy as descendants of pre-war scientists, but their knowledge had become esoteric and ritual-based.
