Artifact Edition

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

In general I like to have Fortune 3 as LA Ulm because the Blood Marshall hero is great and if you pick him up in the 1st-2nd year he clears indies nicely

only other thing is "do I go turm 3 or not"; in the past I've not really felt any major ill effects from it but at the same time it's a significant income hit until fortune 3 kicks in and starts dropping you 1k gold bonus events

Holy fuck setting up testing conditions sucks so much ass.

Dom5 needs only 3 things:
Built in inspector/game modifier allowing you to set up specific battles
Spell exclusion in scripting
Mages cast the same spell at the same time in combat

Figuring out how Fear works is an option as well.
>>
>>168085461
I think spell exclusion would make mages too good. They're already game defining.

This would ruin the game imo

the charm of dominions is the clusterfuck of nothing quite working perfectly

once you turn it into objective esportzz rock paper scissors countering through hours of inspector powergaming battles it would get pretty ugly
>>
>>168085770
yes
but you either just patrol harder or not at all; the penalty to a hunt for high unrest doesn't really matter when you can send as many hunters as LA Ulm can and the requirement for more patrollers isn't an issue to a nation that happily recruits 20 fieldable stealth crossbowmen a turn per fort

so it's a non-issue really
>>
>>168086103
>the charm of dominions is the clusterfuck of nothing quite working perfectly
fucking this
>>
>>168085770

Means you get less dominion based unrest reduction, meaning you need more patrollers and they kill more pop through patrolling (since there's more unrest.)

That's not ideal, but LA Ulm counts automatically generate free chaff patrollers just by existing, so it's less of a big deal for them than, say, Abysia, which needs to recruit or summon it's patrol chaff.
>>
>>168085770
It raises unrest slightly. It's not optimal, but people overvalue it.
>>
>>168085691
Oh yes, absolutely.

>>168085669
Maybe. I just want to have a bit of input past turn 5. Not full scripting for 50 turns or anything like that.

>>168086103
Yeah, but you can already do that. It just takes much longer than it needs to. I don't need to get every variable exactly the way it's going to happen in a future battle. I just want to get a rough idea of battles I haven't fought before and don't have a good idea of.
>>
2 slots left in http://www.llamaserver.net/gameinfo.cgi?game=LightAle
>>
>>168086103
I kind of agree with you, although largely in part because
1) I'd be too lazy to check OR
2) I'd feel compelled to check a bunch or to be left in ignorance, and neither are fun and
3) The game has a bunch of dice rolling underneath, fuzzying stuff a bit. Especially because the RNG is shit.
>>
>>168085461
No no no

It needs DYNAMIC TERRAIN

I want to be able to scout provinces, look at the battle map with more interesting terrain features, and then determine where to put all my dudes based on that information.

Maybe even include magic sites on the battlemap.
>>
>>168085461
>Built in inspector/game modifier allowing you to set up specific battles
Doesn't need that.
>Spell exclusion in scripting
I wouldn't complain, but not strictly necessary. It should definitely be limited, or you'd just exclude every spell except the one you want them to spam.
>Mages cast the same spell at the same time in combat
What, you mean just to make the replays faster? It would be okay I guess but it should definitely be an option you can disable. Not something I'd consider necessary.

>>168088730
>I want to have to rescript everything for each fight

>>
>>168090831
>you'd just exclude every spell except the one you want them to spam

>What, you mean just to make the replays faster?
Probably to remove defensive advantage.

>>168086103
>>168085669

And defensive advantage isn't a bad thing.
>>
>>168090831
>Doesn't need that.
It also doesn't need graphics or a user interface. It would move acceptable testing out of the hands of those with enough autism and time to use the tools we already have to do the exact same thing.

>What, you mean just to make the replays faster?
Yes, but also much cooler looking.
>>
>>168091561
Testing is bullshit anyway.
>>
>>168091730
It's miles better than pure theorycrafting when you're bad at the game and want to know how well you can do in a situation you've never been in before.
>>
>>168092526
"better" if you mean "more likely to win" maybe, but it's not more fun.
>>
>>168092526
When you're bad at the game and want to gauge a situation you just throw together whatever seems most likely to work and pray to Allah that you guessed right. Receiving a turn with the results to an uncertain battle is the best thing about Dominions.
>>
>>168091528
There already isn't much randomness, it just takes experience to learn the AI's priorities. Once you've done that, it's very easy to figure out what the AI will cast off-script. Letting off-script mages be somewhat human-controlled might actually increase the variety of spells cast when mages go off-script.

For mages becoming more game-defining, I don't agree. Are mages especially overpowered when doing skellyspam? Skellyspam is basically the only thing a death mage will do once off script, so it's already like having every other spell disabled.

>>168092573
>>168092626
>you're having fun wrong
>>
>>168092998
There is objectively nothing fun about crunching numbers to maximize your odds of winning. If you're that committed to success why don't you delete Dominions and get a job?
>>
>>168093097
Even if I agreed with you, that description is nothing like how testing stuff in dominions works.
>>
C'tis was a sick kingdom.

What had once looked like a promising new future, with the sauromancers giving way to the isolationist marshmasters was proving to be anything but.

Trade within its lands had long since vanished, as every foreign merchant that tried to trade within the miasma grew sick soon after entering the mists. The game which the predator lizards relied upon had grown ever scarcer, until starvation and even rumors of cannibalism set in among their ranks.

The mighty sobek, which had arisen from within the marshes to serve as the elite amidst the armies of C'tis, fared little better than the golden-skinned warriors that looked to them as idols. The C'tisians, fearing a potential Sobek rebellion, began keeping a watchful eye on these greatest of their soldiers, and tensions between the Swamp Guard and the Sobek Sacred Guard began to rise.

All of this came to a head when Atun Shar, the mysterious Sobek Sauromancer, accused the Marshmasters of creating the miasma, claiming that they had made their kingdom toxic to all warm blooded creatures in a misguided response to the tragedy of Ermor. The god-snake Python declared this to be heresy, and the mighty serpent swallowed the mage whole. Nakhtun Eshash, fearing the god that he served, called his Sobek warriors to him and fought his way free of the city. When the beloved hero Niklatu fell in the conflict, all hopes for peace were dashed. A blood civil war ensued, with the necromantic powers of the marshmasters eventually proving too much for the predators and their shamans to fend off.

The temple city of C'tis was a ruined shambles of its former glory. The godsnake lay lazy and indolent, feasting on the corpses of the carnivores that had once been its people.

That was when the Sauromancers returned.
>>
They came from the desert tombs, holding lamps of sickly green fire in their hands. The marched to the gates of the temple city, and the miasmal mists dissipated as they approached. In their wake walked the denizens of the tombs they kept - mummified kings, and the sacred snakes and chariots that had been preserved to accompany them into the underworld. Now, like the twiceborn sauromancers that led them, they too had returned from that black river to the land of the living.

They marched through the once bustling streets of their city, the creak of chariots and the rattling of bones marking their return. The great host, living and dead, marched unopposed all the way to the sacred palace, where the bloated snake still lay. The few marshmasters still loyal to the beast rallied their guards and skeletal minions, but these were swiftly annihilated by the superior magic of the sauromancers. Finally, the great brown serpent took notice of the intrusion, blearily raising its massive head.

The legions of the dead parted. Through their midst came a creature of unmistakable divine might. The great beast that had once sat at the entrance to the underworld to consume those whose souls had been denied entrance had left its eternal post, and now it stood amidst the ranks of its new worshipers.

It strode up the steps to where the snake lay, opened its massive maw and, with a single lunge, closed its jaws around the throat of C'tis's failed pretender. The snake thrashed, knocking over pillars and crushing the construction of stone and jewels that had been its throne, until finally the last of its soul was consumed.

The Sauromancers closed ranks. The high priests bowed. A new order was created, built in service to the Devourer and the returned kings that had followed it from the underworld to restore the glory of the Lizard Kingdom.

Is there actually a canon explanation for why the Sobeks left? Pretty sure they're cold-blooded and poison resistant, but I could be wrong.
>>
>>168096479
There's no canon explanation, but it's heavily implied that they and the predator lizards made their own kingdom. My lore here for their disappearance was that they rebelled because the miasma killed off their food.
>>
>>168096479
Never mind I'm retarded. I just read the LA C'tis information thing and it's all right there.
>>
>>168096580
A new Sobek/Predator-Lizard nation could be an interesting addition to LA but I don't really know what their thing would be.
>>
>>168096687
It'd probably be like MA C'tis, but more sobeks and croc stuff and possibly with blood magic.
>>
>>168096762
I like the idea of nations having different infantry. Sobeks are a cool addition to MA and them or something like them in LA would be nice. But then LA is supposed to be the time of less magic and crazy stuff so their absence feels consistent with everything else that's going on.

It's not useless, but it's not very good. Basically, Ulm scales up to the midgame very quickly, and once it goes full vampire it has a very solid endgame as well since it's a deep blood nation with immortal hunters that bring their own chaff. This lets you do all the normal blood stuff (fiends, demon lords, whatever) and with your excellent research, you can often hit the uniques first.

Where Ulm is weak is their expansion and their midgame weakness to battlefield clear. You can get around the second issue with agile assaults, thanks to the fact that vampires, rangers, illuminated ones, and wolves are all stealthy, letting you sneak around with mage supported armies like Pan. The first problem is what those monster builds are trying to solve.

Your pretender there basically doesn't bring anything new until very late in the game. It doesn't even summon counts without first having Cons 4, and while you do want the dowsing rods there anyways, it means that you need to divert your research away from battlemagic (which you'll need to grow out of being a microstate) in order to even start getting counts. Rings can be useful to boost to tarts - but only once you get Blood 7, Cons 6, Ench 8, and Conj 9. By the time you get to that point, odds are good that the game will already have been decided.

tl;dr a rainbow's not a good fit for Ulm, and this particular rainbow doesn't even help you until much too late to matter.

I've seen the various other players messages, and have sent one out myself to everyone saying "That sounds like a call for Ragha Victory, but I'll give you a chance to respond to this in case you wanted to continue". Dunno if the others watch the thread or not, but if I get agreements from them in here, then I could just end it at that.

But with Arco gone AI, I'm pretty sure Ragha's got it. In future games with thrones.dm, remind me to never include the Level 1s. Those Bullies and Public Executions were obnoxious.

throne of studying gives a +8 inspiring researcher unit, and arco's seeming power was based on Mockery SCs, 200hp regenerating 7-paths (although not the most useful ones) fullslots + extra slots chassis from a throne. It's not balanced in the slightest, and the game got changed a lot by the thrones.

I've got a pretty strong position in the mountains and UW, but i'm unsure if I could beat Ragha alone. And if everyone goes AI, Ragha can eat AI more easily than I can, so it's eh. I've got some decent tech and hardware, though, especially recently. And I did get Arco's deathbasket which was quite substantial. Seems a shame so many people went AI.

I like this set up because it adds a new dimension to the match. For example, one player could win two tournaments but their neighbors could simply destroy them before the next event is called. Someone could alternatively attack the admin nation, kill them off, and suddenly change the win condition into outright conquest. All of that should keep players on their toes and keep things lively.

Well to begin with, the greatest draw is probably the worldbuilding. The story is very in media res, and there's a loooooooot of stuff to figure out as you read through the books. Not as complexly as the Malazan books, but the author has thought out a lot beforehand, and paces the books very well.

The world itself is a fairly rugged place, constantly wracked by enormous storms called Highstorms, that travels from east to west across the continent, that appears regularly. Society, flora and fauna have all adapted to this, so its just regular business for everyone. More interestingly, gemstones left out in the highstorms gets infused by Stormlight, which makes them glow. This is used as the most common form of illumination in the world, but it also powers a sort of magitech called Fabrial that can do a lot of mundane things such as act as heat sources, or means of long-way communication. There are also much more powerful Fabrial from ages past, most notably the Shardplate, pretty much magical power armor that allows the wearer to perform feats of great strength in it, and can survive massive punishment. It's also the only means of protection against the Shardblades, weapons that can cut through stone and sever mens soul.

The story itself centers mostly around a War taking place on the most fucked up terrain imaginable(pic related), following an old noble who is desperately trying to unfuck his nation from the current situation it's in, a once soldier-hero turned slave and a female noble/scholar that explores a lot of the worlds mysteries.

The books are written very well, a lot of attention is paid to detail, such as cultural mores, language, gender roles and other interesting tidbits without going into Robert Jordan levels of braid tugging and skirt smoothing.

If you love worldbuilding, good pacing and character development, this is definitely a series to try out. the audiobooks are also really well acted if you like that
>>
>>168134781
>>168132565

Worth noting out that you only build roads in Forests. They do nothing on plains, but on Forests they will make it only cost 1 map movement point to traverse, as oppose to 2. I wish they'd do shit for Wastes or Swamps but that's Illwinter for you.

I will strategically build early fort constructions on key forest provinces that I know will be in the way of my expansion. Unless you are a MM1 nation, mobility is key.

can you make victory in the arena under certain conditions not count towards victory overall?

If you could make pretender arena matches not count then it'd add a stalling element to play as well as evening that playing field?

Maybe by making victory tickets instead of a count based on the thing to use the existing "pretenders dont take home arena prizes" condition (I think that's a thing at least; not sure)
>>
>>168135868
I'm not sure why you consider roads to be remotely relevant to expansion considering they take between 9 and 11 turns to even get set up.

>Victory tickets
>6 victory points are required to win
>Pretender victories count as 1
>All other victories count as 2
versus
>Pretender Stall
>3 victories are required to win
>Pretender victories do not count
I can't decide which of these solutions would be more fun.

With "Victory Tickets", players don't need to keep their pretenders in reserve. They can immediately play their trump cards and that encourages some very aggressive possibilities. Stuff like SC pretenders duking it out in the very first tournament would be a real possibility here.

"Pretender stall" is way more defensive. Players would probably keep their pretenders in reserve and wait for the perfect moment to beat down the leader. That leader in return would probably try to bait out pretenders or psyche out the opposition. All kinds of insidious diplomacy would be key to victory here.

Do you think my reads are correct? Do you have a preference between the two?
>>
>>168138637
do make both
>>
>>168138637
maybe make the victory tickets a cursed item (slot doesn't matter) that allows an "ascension" map action for a single victory point that kills the hero.

So then any hero (or even a pretender) can stall the arena after their first victory; but you cant just reuse the one OP hero and pretenders need to be re-called after claiming a ticket (which might give a bit of an unfair advantage to some nations in hindsight). And as an extra caveat if the hero who claimed the ticket leads an army against invaders and dies the ticket might be picked up on the field of battle by some no name mook with no penalties for claiming the point off of it straight away.

And nah no preference, just throwing ideas out there. Really what matters is if you can actually mod this kind of thing in

Scrub here. How do I sitesearch? I feel like I'm always doing it inefficiently.

With as few mages with as many 1 paths as possible? Or rather 2 at least? Or even wait till you have path 3 available since potential undiscovered sites trigger you autism?

As early as turn 2-3? Or rather once you have some basic research goals to be less vulnerable to an early war?

Assuming you have sitesearched shallow (1-2), do you sitesarch all provinces again with a higher path? Only provinces with higher site chance (thrones, swamps, mountains etc.)? Only those with unusual scales?

When do you use remote sitesearching?

This item has five components:

>1. Rewarded by the arena
>2. Cursed but it can be picked up
>3. Commander can trigger it
>4. This trigger kills the commander
>5. Trigger makes an announcement
I'm pretty sure I got the first 3 components right. This item should be an arena prize, it (probably) cannot be forged, and it should allow the wielder to trigger a ritual called "Victory Point" at will. I probably have to find a sprite for it but good ol' Draupnir will be a fine placeholder.

Components 4 and 5 are a problem. I don't know how to make that spell kill the commander, I don't know how to prevent the item from being picked up by friendly commanders in the same province, and I don't know how to make it announce itself. I could study Sum1's work on "Blessing of Limne" (unit is created, unit is removed, player gets something) or Magic Enhanced (the new globals such as Wailing Winds everywhere) to figure this out but it seems like a lot of work for a minimum payoff.

So long story short, I'm just going to manually keep track of victory points by tallying death match wins. Sorry!

Not too long, but usually last a decent amount of time against anything including magic weapons of any kind. 0 protection but multiple forms, don't normally fit in the same square at the start.
Each one is going to survive at least two-three turns depending on the size so just multiply it by the number of elementals and you'll get a general idea. (general because smaller versions will mix with larger ones after some damage and then die together)

Early sitesearching you want to prioritize covering as many paths with as few mages as possible, to not compromise your research. Guys with 1-2 in a bunch of paths are really good here.

Midgame, once you have some breathing room, you can search more deeply with your stronger mages. A few paths it can also be worth throwing out sitesearching rituals too.

I assume he picked the pretender chassis for RP reasons, and there's not much you can do with a devourer of souls for LA C'tis.

E9 at least gets you safer expansion and gives all your mages fatigue reduction.

>>
>>168212395
N9 would objectively be the best since you get to triple your lifespan and heal most injuries.

Death, Air and Astral would be the most interesting because of the way mechanics would translate into real life. Undying would let you keep trucking even if some school shooter decided to fill you with lead, and then going by dom4 mechanics you could even recover past the threshold back into life. Air would make you the best sniper and counter-sniper since projectiles avoid you AND you get increased accuracy, while Astral would make you lucky and...immune to the first attack in a day? How would that even work? Magic resistance would be wasted though since no magic IRL.

Death per se would just make you linger a lil bit after death and make everyone you touch vomit
A9 you would have incredible good sight and never again a bird will poop on your head
Astral would make you stronger against mind games and nobody would get the first punch on you on a bar fight ever again
F9 and everything you touch will burst into flames, maybe tearing your gf´s clothes apart
W9 and you just plain run faster and can do knife tricks
E9 never sleep again, nor feel the softness of your bed
B9 and your veins get thicker and thicker and everytime you get hurt it gets painful where your blood drop

I actually like that build. C'tis doesn't have battlefield clear, so that thing can kill gods and armies.

I'd take it with E4, though, since ime the devourer doesn't need E9 to expand.

If you're really committed to the turmoil-luck build (presumably for gem events, which kinda makes sense since those don't decrease in value with fewer sites), you can at least get prod. Personally, though, I'd run order to get more sauromancers and more infrastructure for the same.
>>
>>168228181

Well, you're not gonna kill it in one round, so your best bet is fucking it over enough in YOUR one round before it eats you that it can't hurt you.

Since Devour Soul isn't MRNegates and is 999 damage, this means fucking it's accuracy. It doesn't have particularly great defence itself, so that means at least one Eyecatcher. Ideally, with quickness, you hit it with the Eyecatcher twice and it's blind. If you want to be very certain, then two Eyecatchers. That hurts your damage output though.

For something to go along with the Eyecatcher, I'd probably suggest an Axe of Hate as your second weapon. That's 20 AN fatigue on hit, which with Quickness will very quickly put it out. You'll probably need some serious reinvig to keep that up though. Girdle of Might will help, but that Jade Armour kinda screws you over fatigue wise.
>>
>>168229157
>>168228181
Try 2x water bottles maybe

>Also, does Devour Soul work on lifeless?

it shouldn't.
>>
>>168228714

You know there are chassis that autosumon stuff right?
>>
>>168229447

No effect on mindless, lifeless isn't a factor. The issue with Water Elementals is that they get summoned, then your counterThug flies into the Devourer and gets eaten, and your Water Elemental dissolves. I'd probably go Girdle + Cat Charm, myself. You don't need to be fatigue neutral, you just need to wake up before the crocodog does whenever you pass out, so you can start putting more fatigue back on it.

Also I have just remembered that OnHit actually means OnDamage, so you will probably benefit from a Girdle of Might in order to actually put that fatigue on it with the Axe of Hate. E9 crocodog has obnoxious high prot. Eyecatcher you don't need to worry about, since that's AN.
>>
>>168229875
You can choose to script your dude that brings water elementals to buff or even just hold until the water elementals are in melee
>>
>>168219183
>implying it's one person
You are a textbook example of faggotry. You will be mentioned when the subject of faggotry comes up, because you are (so far) entirely unoutfaggoted.
>>
>>168230315

This is true. Was assuming this was for the Turn1 flying boots + jade armour counter. Water Elementals are mindless and therefore completely immune to the Devourer though, so that's probably an easier way of going about it.
>>
>>168230571
I mean, not COMPLETELY immune. The bite still does like 30 damage. Still, water elementals / skelly spam should be able to beat it if it doesn't do Living Earth.

Can I get a few examples? It just dawned on me that I've never actually seen a SC. The closest was probably a few geared Niefel Jarls but they were more like raiders than army killers.

>>168229157
I put an axe of hate, winged shoes, vine shield, and jade armor on the Forest Lord. The Devourer was naked because I wanted the picture more than I wanted a real match. The Lord went first, closed the gap, and struck the Devourer. The Devourer missed, was tangled, and then spent the rest of the match getting hacked to death.

Your strategy was right on the money. The Devourer's defense was so low that practically every hit got through and its attack wasn't quite high enough to take out a prepared attacker. It was thus pretty much over after few rounds.

>>168230842
>The bite still does like 30 damage
I'm not sure why but it didn't do 30 here.
>>
>>168231805
Did it have any afflictions? It is weird that it hit for only 23 when the devourer says it has 28 strength and 2 damage on its intrinsic weapon.
>>
>>168231805

You were really, really close to dying there. If it'd rolled two higher on damage (or had a Girdle of Might) then the Soul Devour would have procced. Eyecatcher's the way to go, I think, since that will completely fuck it's attack value. Safer than trying to rely on shield hits to protect against 30 damage bite hits. The entangle's MRnegates and countered by strength, so it's very much not as useful against SCs, compared to chaff clearing.
>>
you guys really should try it against living-earth devourer. the vine shield and so on might be needed to survive against a blob of elementals

Here's the status of the Devourer at the conclusion of that round. It shows no afflictions, only 23 fatigue, and 30 damage for the bite. It was a partially repelled shield hit though so maybe that has something to do with it?

>still using a trip after being shamed for 2 years

Are you sure? I think shield's protection value are subtracted from the attackers damage roll, actually.
>>
>>168238476

Per manual:

Damage roll: attacker's Strength attribute + weapon Damage attribute + DRN
Protection roll: defender's Protection attribute + DRN (+ shield Protection if it is a "shield hit")
>>
>>168238750
That's not "sure". Do testing - you just saw someone get an unexplained low roll. Also, look at that prot roll. Jade Armor is 16 prot, the keeper has at least 4 natural prot and vine shield is 13 prot. That should be over 30, yet the protection roll was 24. That's enough to start doubting the manual and double checking.
>>
>>168238750
I can assure you, if the shields protection is higher than enemy damage roll, and they get a shield hit, their attacks do 0 damage and thus do not get a DRN. This has been tested before.

The deal is he's staling without any kind of notice. If he couldn't manage to say anything in the two days he was staling, it's not particularly likely he'd manage in another two days. What are some items that are worth rushing construction for as a non-thug nation?

>>

>>
>>168304451
>gemgens
You mean those items that give temporary gems?
You're not rushing those since you need spells to cast that use those gems.
>boosters
Also not worth rushing until you get some spells.

Both leave you vulnerable due to lack of combat magic.
>>
>>168304542
I mean that if you get to const 8 and have all artifacts available you should get those first. IN GENERAL FUCKING TERMS. Why would you ever want to "rush" const when you don't have solid mid-game, that's retarded.
>>
>>168304417
General terms are so vague as to be meaningless.

The two you listed are the best examples, and for many nations they aren't worth rushing (even assuming you only count nations with the paths to forge them).
>>
>>168304649
See my original question. Some people rush coul contracts so they can have a devil deathball later in the game.
Owl Quills basically make up for the lost time since you get them early.
>>
>>168304713
Both of those are available at construction 2, i.e. 150 RP total.

It's not rushing them, it's picking up a option which is so cheap it barely slows down your research.
>>
>>168304713
Owl quills are mostly garbage because air gems are very valuable for combat/summoning/crafting other stuff, and their research bonus is laughable. They can be crafted early game when you need to get your mid-game up (as vanheim or burds for example).

I don't know where you get all that great strategy information, my man.
>>
>>168304842
6RP for 5 gems isn't terrible. Depending on nation and scales that can be the equivalent of over 100 gold in researchers per quill, higher if you could upkeep.
>>
>>168304957
>higher if you could upkeep
count
>>
>>168304417
Nazca likes construction 4 for huaca headdress.
It really depends, senpai. You sometimes need +1N to unlock higher nature, maybe you need a skull staff to cast rigor mortis, etc.
Hell, construction 2 for soul contracts isn't even considered rushing imo, it's fucking 150 RP.

Rushing imo means Tarts on turn 40 or some shit.

>>168304713
I will never forged owl quill and never will. Even for 3A they are such a waste. If you get them for 2A then they aren't that wasteful, but still don't like them.

I'm not him, and see response to above poster.
>>
>>168305103
It's situational, but as >>168305009 said, I'll never craft feathers again in my life. I played air nations a lot, and all of them can do without quills while spending air gems to actually win important fights and not just to give a slight rp boost.
>>
>>168305198
I'm mostly in agreement, but I can think of a fair number of situations when air gems simply aren't practical to use in battle.

Anyone who gets a air mage from a hero/random event or has uncommon/cap-only air mages has very little better to do with air gems than boosting research.
>>
>>168305623
Air elementals stay relevant until the end of the game. Flying boots are A2 and are super good. Shock resist rings/spools for corpse constructs.
>>
>>168305709
>Air elementals stay relevant until the end of the game.
Only if you have enough mages to cast them, and those mages don't have more valuable things to be doing in combat.

In the situations I outlined, this is not the case.

>Flying boots are A2 and are super good. Shock resist rings/spools for corpse constructs.
I'd say quills are comparable in power to everything in there.
>>
>>168306104
A single air elemental on turn 1 can trample some random shit and catch some evos for you.

Anyway, I'm tired of generalized bullshit. I won some games where I made feathers en masse, but I deeply regretted not spending my gems on something else later.

TNN is a shit nation, so no dice. Best case scenario - you have a good bless and can buy several dusk daggers from a kind neighbor, then just use your ponymen to cast flight and stab the fucker in one turn. You can try to spam it with lightning if your enemy is super dumb, but even then fom kings have some shock resist. Otherwise use several ponymen with ap weapons and some form of elemental protection (if fom king uses brands) and hope for the best.
>>
>>168307229
Axe of Hate (fatigue damage to put him to sleep, good damage) and Eyegouger (W1E1, low AN damage, removes eyes so he can't hit you). Both are low length so you can use them on the same guy.

Add a ring or something with the right kind elemental resistance if he's using a brand.

That should outdamage regen and keep you safe, but you might want to add reinvig to be sure your ponyman can last until the king dies. Alternatively, bring two ponymen.

>Transformations
I can make this spell work for every element.

There might be a way to make this spell do more than transform a death mage into a goat. When cast UW, this spell only transforms the caster into amphibious or aquatic morphs. If I can figure out how that mechanic works then it might be possible to specialize the universal transformation list. A death mage then would have the exclusive option of becoming a soulless or lich while an air mage would exclusively have the option of becoming an air elemental or storm demon.

That or I could just toss a ton of random shit on the transformation list.

>Crossbreeding
I have mixed feelings but sure.

i wouldn't call the only thing that allows air nations to reach thunderstrike spam 3 turns earlier and have a decent mid game "mostly garbage".

they are excellent on all nations that get their hand on a decent air gem income during early or midgame.
surprisingly they can be a good investment at any point int he game if you have only acess to air 1-2 because you will never have enough air mages to cast storm or fog warriors 3+ times/month so there is nobig gain in hoarding air gems.

Okay, this game sucks. I have some toys I want to try and a lot of stuff I want to do.
BUT.
Since turn 10 I have had 2-3 assassinations on my mages per turn, a lot of raiding from bullies, and lots of gold lost to awful scales from global events caused by the memethrones.

But now. This turn.
My Yazad of justice (F3S3) got attacked by a Hangman and instead of casting soul slay, mind burn, conflagration, falling fires or literally ANYTHING he casted useless self buffs like personal luck and so.
I have just lost 40 astral pearls against that meme throne event and it will NEVER end. Like, it started on year one and at turn 54 I'm still getting assassinations fucking everywhere.

I know Jomon wants to keep playing and I will do it as he wants, but I'm literally never going to play thrones.dm again.
Really, the fun units, mages and bonus sites don't pay off for the awful events.

"B-but you could give all of your good mages water bottles!"

Boar-tier summonable cu sidhe that cost more than niefel wolves (that are sacred berserkers and have 2 attacks). No midgame besides air stuff. Summod also denies them RoS, so thanks a lot, sum1. These three lines can add any monster to the transformation list. This includes pretenders, summons, and (maybe) unique stuff like elemental royalty. Will they all work properly? Does something funky happen when a mage transforms into something with magic levels? Are the undead valid trasformations? Will the leviathan land form be bugged? Base magic levels do nothing. HOWEVER, there are keys on units with the #transformation tag, xattuned, which are a percentage chance of gaining one level in that path, when transforming into that creature.

Great Eagles, for example, have #airattuned 50, meaning anything getting Great Eagle as a transformation result has a 50% chance to get +1 A. There's a tag for each path.

At least this turn was relatively eventful.

"I won" this one, but really both armies disappeared out of existence and my S9 died.

So is there any downside to boosting priest levels with communions? I mean the spells have no fatigue cost. You can just have the slaves cast spells as usual.

The transformation additions are a partial success. They clearly work but I can't get the new transformation tags to show up in the inspector. This means that players will need to open up the DM and compare IDs if they want to figure out what the possibilities are. That's tedious as shit and not very fun.

I'm also not that impressed with the results but that can be fixed by adding or disabling list entries.

>>168316874
The inspector must've screwed up.
>>

I suppose this is the dominions general and dom3 talk is allowed but to be honest we've pretty much all moved on to dom4 by now.

>>
>>168319673

Banishment spam, notably useful for an early game protection against MA Ermor

Being able to cast Divine blessing, notably useful for Ancestral Spirit spam with Tien Chi

I guess fanaticism is incidentally okay-ish.
>>
>>168319840

They arent good against demons but they are very good against skeles. A solid banishment communion can clear them very fast.
>>
>>168320881

>>
>>168321093
Yep! Wiping players out so they can't participate in the arena is perfectly acceptable. It might even be the best way to win for certain nations. You can even attack the "Arena Keeper" player and win the game through conquest if you don't want to bother with arena wins.

>Pelagia b&
So the only interesting UW nation in MA
Literally why
>>
>>168324364
because there's no good split sea maps and Pelagia being in the game effectively bans the other UW nations unless at least 2 join and immediately gang up on it.

It basically prevents Atlantis, R'lyeh, etc from being played normally

When a unit changes into a new form it keeps its current age and magic paths. Everything else becomes that of the new form.

The spell Transformation also gives a chance of a path boost if the new path has the #XXXattuned ability. This doesn't trigger for other ways to change form though.

>This means that players will need to open up the DM and compare IDs if they want to figure out what the possibilities are

Ulm if you and an easy and straightforward nation to get your bearings. Vanheim if you want a strong nation. Nazca if you want gimmicks.
