A clarification on chapter 5- Ouma's plan to stop the killing game by flooding everyone with the despair of the outside world, using the robots to block off monokuma and saying he was the mastermind that got bored and ended it worked in a (kind of terrible) way. Everyone was so despairing that not much happened over the course of a few days besides a lot of sleeping and existing without doing much else.

The only reason that this didn't continue is that Tsumugi created the fake video casting Ouma as the SHSL despair that destroyed the world and specifically targeted it towards Maki, who took the bait without question and decided to go after Ouma and kill him rather than consulting with anyone else, who wanted to seek out and talk to him non-fatally and actually get some information on him.

Maki did everything wrong.

I'm not fond of changing things personally and normally people having misunderstandings about the source material happens because they don't study Japanese culture enough, but the localization might have to make it clearer why so many of the cast decided to defend her anyway while the Japanese would have no problem understanding what was going on.

I'm pretty sure he didn't use it each time, but it does bug me that fully 5/16 of the cast are criminals by backstory and Korekiyo's case was also tough enough to crack that Ouma really stepped up his game during the trial.

He probably has experience devising traps that make it harder for people to detect him given the locked door mystery with Angie and how he cunningly killed Tenko with the seesaw cage trick.

I really thought they were going to be criminals, given that half the cast alludes to criminal activity during the first chapter.

Ouma and Hoshi make obvious references, Momota forged documents, Kirumi mentions having declined orders to overthrow governments, Miu spends her introduction scene looking for something to get high off of, and Kiibo explains his low strength setting as being a nerf after he accidentally did something awful ("killing" the professor) Then we later learn that Maki and Korekiyo have killed many people in the past.

It really feels like the story was rewritten so many times that the prison stuff ended up being forgotten, which is a shame.

The purpose of the game is to discourage dissent from the peace or rebellion- step out of line, and you or your children will be thrown into a game with even the memory of what they did to get put in there erased and die in despair without knowing why this is happening to them, only "redeeming" themselves and earning their freedom if they choose "hope" at the end.

There are like 2 "back routes" per trial and they're not routes more like joke answers, like you can use a lie bullet for the "water tank hidden door" to lie that there was no hidden door anywhere in the tank and that Yumeno did use magic.

Everyone else, not sure. I don't know how much different Ouma's story would have been if Kaede was protagonist. I don't think Tulpaman would've killed her, though. Chapter 3 would've played out roughly the same even if she was protag.
