Yeah, that was literally the face I made analyzing the pattern of the victims and murderers and realizing it mirrors DR1.

I also noticed that save for Maki (For whatever reason), everyone who was killed or who killed someone was either a positive motivational force, smart (Useful in class trials) or dangerous. You'll find so many fun things comparing the cases to DR1, in which fun means 'Despair-inducing'.

I think they could since she has both doubt and trust, though it's pretty clear from everything that she had so much confidence in her plan that she ignored facts such as how the mastermind could have taken advantage of her trap and how she was pushing people too hard in the Death Road mini-game, thus ensuring her death.

Granted, my theory as to why Saihara is the real protagonist has to do with how all DR protags are self-inserts to an extent. There's a lot of patterns here Saihara wouldn't know that the player can catch on, so NDRV3 is a mystery both in the game and on a meta level to be solved.

I have an idea. The victim refuses to leave the medium's body, right? The victim has died before so death is probably nothing to them, so Monokuma has to make it good. Haunted blades would be great. The blades are controlled by angry spirits of the dead that hate mediums for disrupting their sleep. They haunt different things, but the blades are the main factor here that can stab into the body. Since the original medium's ghost is removed, they would be feeling it spiritually from the other ghost as well, so the victim and the murderer are being stabbed and smashed by haunted artifacts. It ends with the angry spirits landing a giant tombstone on top of the body and freeing the victim's spirit, where the other ghost look at the two of them, now able to interact with them both, surround them and mob attack the two of them. At the end of it all, neither of their ghost are found with no traces remaining.

That is an interesting question, but I doubt it.

I feel given how Ouma keeps hanging around people getting into their business and how he said something along the lines of Monokuma breaking people up when they try to exist in harmony that he had an idea of what was going on. So, based on that here's my hypothesis:

Shirogane claimed that brainwashing was involved in the process of the game, but as we know the mastermind has always given some of the truth while obscuring other things. It could be that the creepy music was what caused Kaede to act being a musician, Kirumi's motive video was given to her on purpose to make her want to kill someone while Hoshi's video also had nothing in it to make him the chosen victim, the ritual book makes Korekiyo commit murder and the computer only Miu can use in chapter 4 IIRC makes her snap.

We could also count the Remembrance Light in chapter 5 that gets Maki to go after Ouma, but I'll have to think a bit more about that.

As you can see each 'trigger' seems to be tailored to the murderer's interest (Even though Kaede was actually framed, though again Kaede was going to act so it was easiest to frame her).

If the fake talents and personalities conflicted with their normie selves, then I wonder if it's possible to tell. In Iruma's case she sounded like a hick in the prologue and in the first trial had no idea what the word alibi meant, and later had to look it up in the dictionary. My guess is she was a dumb blonde girl and Team Danganronpa only implanted what they had to for her SHSL backstory to work, and still left her as an idiot outside of her talent.

This just ruins the game in hindsight, because it's like everyones actions were planned out for them from the start. Chapter 5 seems to be where it starts to go off course for the mastermind, and then it culminates in chapter 6 when no body votes. Of course, the mastermind may have planned for Ouma to die as soon as chapter 4, but that's not certain and it didn't work even if that was her plan.

Yeah, chapter 4 caused a major change since Gonta ended up being executed and Ouma unfortunately still played into the mastermind's hands, since Gonta technically sacrificed himself and it's still a repeat of chapter 4 trends in some way.

That's why I'm carefully examining everything Ouma says and does now, because there's definitely something up with what he's doing and I get the feeling Maki was supposed to have been killed one way or another in chapter 5, mirroring Mukuro from DR1. She wins either way because Ouma also fits the overall chapter 5 pattern, and of course she got pissed off when Kaito's execution got cut half-way and ended up breaking Kiibo's antenna which was obviously not as keikaku.

His ability to read people and place them exactly where he wants is uncanny, and along with his seriously ominous predictions of how people will die including himself (Thus far he correctly predicted Kaede, Tenko, Kaito and himself) it makes me wonder what in the world is his deal.

So, the game was rigged from the start for Shuichi and Himiko to be the only 2 survivors? And it almost happened, with Maki being the only person who lived that wasn't originally intended too. She sure was lucky everyone else kept helping her out.

Maybe so, though it's pretty telling how quickly he was trying to declare the game over when Monokuma broke from the start and how when Amami questions him about his alternate way to win the game and says "By playing the killing game?" he responds with "Ah, so that's how you interpret it".

So there's room to say at first he just wanted to play the fool hoping things would work out, only to step up and help guide everyone subtly when it didn't. He does however demonstrate keen sense noting Amami's Monopad in all the photos taken though, so he definitely wasn't fully goofing off.

I'll probably have to think more about this, but Temperance is also a good one for Saihara given his conflict between trust and doubt as a detective and Magician would indeed cover his need to go further in advancing his skill.

It's obviously not meant to be healthy or condoned, and upon re-read I do question exactly how one-sided this supposed incest is supposed to be. People overestimate how much control a sick and older sibling who doubles as a parent can have over a younger sibling and it's an interesting clash for Korekiyo, torn between wanting to travel while also wanting to care for his sister.

Also, with regards to what you said about Lovers that is also a decent fit as characters rarely belong to one Arcana alone. I imagine that Lovers was likely an Arcana he'd have before his sister died as this is an arcana about choices and relating to the outside world and he has to choose between love for human nature and love for his sister, unable to have both.

Part of nailing down which Arcana a character belongs to is looking at their actions and character arc so you can narrow down which one they represent the most.

Using another complex example, it's very tempting to put Kokichi into either Emperor or Devil given his actions, but while he does fit both somewhat he's a much better choice for the Hermit given his arc- He isolates himself from everyone to search for the truth, introspects about who he really is and most importantly both Kaede and Saihara say it's painful to talk to him as he speaks in riddles and lies, while the Hermit represents a guiding figure who doesn't share his secrets easily and he does indeed try to guide both of them in his FTEs.

This really is an intriguing topic. It does seem like some characters have an obvious card that represent them, but when you dig further you realize their complexities don't lend themselves to simple classifications so easily.

I was thinking on some of the others you suggested, and I realized that Kaede as the Hanged Man works on two different levels. Besides the obvious themes of surrender and martyrdom, the Hanged Man may also have been hung as a traitor, and is even sometimes referred to as the Traitor. And Kaede could very easily be called a traitor- betraying the trust of her friends and acting against the person who was intent on saving them.

A little ironic, because if she'd acted as her card represents and suspended her action, things most likely would have turned out for the better.

All this Tarot talk almost makes me want to try and illustrate a DRV3-based deck, it's just so much fun to think about. It's unfortunate though, since assuming every character would only be represented once, we're short six subjects for the Major Arcana.

It'd seem a little unfair to give some characters multiple cards over others- for example, if Korekiyo was represented both on the Lovers and Death. But I'm not sure how else you'd work around that. There aren't really enough side characters to fill those six spots.

Ok so after seeing the stream and translation I have to say that if Kaede stayed alive she would have been a really awful protagonist. Let's say they would have killed Saihara. How would the investigations go, because Kaede couldn't do shit during chapter 1 without him. It was him basically finding everything out and it was her own mistake that led to her death by planning on her own..
I really like her character but Kaede wasn't smart at all. The only one who could have helped would be Ouma, but even then I don't think she would have been able to interprete his lies and his hints

In Ouma's FTEs he mentions he sucks as a supreme leader to Kaede, when Saihara asks him won't his followers come to save them he says "Who knows? They're probably happier without me" and his motive video found after he dies implies all his followers died so like Amami he was likely BSing about being the Supreme Leader and TDR probably labeled him that to rub it into his face.

Because you find out eventually that Ouma is on the side of truth I hypothesized that his talent has to actually be real and also be something no amount of mindhacking can give since he likely spent all his life practicing his talent just like regular SHSLs would or he was born with it like Junko and Komaeda.

Anyway! The things that stood out most to me is that he dislikes liars and yet doesn't shoot down people's lies unless it's detrimental to them, he talks a lot about how the absolute truth is something ugly and noticeably he makes a pretty absurd amount of ominous predictions about people dying.

I've narrowed it down to either Jester or Seer because both of these are talents that deal with the truth in some way, and Seer is especially interesting as the most famous one was a woman named Cassandra who was cursed to never be believed even though her words were true and she eventually fell into despair because all her attempts to save people failed.

Furthermore, she was seen as a liar and a madwoman and both of these are reflective in Ouma's persona and design.

it would be regular Dr protagonist sindrome, because if your the protag you have to be a bit dumb, and require help for the rest of the cast, because tradition. Ouma, and maybe Maki could have been her point gaurds. Because both Hajime and Makoto were basically normies, and needed lots of assistance, before they could handle most things. So Kaede staying protag would be about the same.
