Playable characters - Team Sonic, Team Rose, Team Dark, Team Chaotix, New team
Characters each have a defining trait. Amy plays like she does in adventure 1 but faster. Espio can throw shuriken and turn invisible, etc.
Main mechanics are the ability to mix and match team members, however, you can only ever have 2 team members at once, with the last acting as support if one dies, it will not use a traditional lives system. For example, if you're using Sonic and Tails, and Sonic dies, Knuckles replaces him or vice-versa.
There should be a hub where you can interact with all the heroes and pick levels from.

I was about to say we didn't have one with a tragic turn, but Gemerl exists, so you got me there

But the pre-reboot was getting pretty bloated, and while Endangered Species was shit, I'd argue that getting rid of most of the echidnas was a good move. And, as someone who loves Antoine as a character, him dying does do him more favors. And Sally's character was in fucking shambles at that point. No matter how hard the book tried to make people like her, it wasn't working.

See, my thinking is that Antoine's character arc had long since come to a close. He became a brave and respected hero, married the woman of his dreams, and got the respect from his father he so desired. And he went out appropriately for his character, so I can't be too mad about it.

But yes the reboot was desperately needed. I would've liked to have it after King Naugus ended, or better yet, once the pre-reboot did end (Because there was a planned ending for it, and I think ending that with a reboot that's established to be an alternate universe would've been fine)

That's just willful ignorance and denial. Characters change over time, often not due to in-universe development. Mickey now is hardly Mickey as he first was. The Dracula of today is often not the one Bram Stoker wrote. Characters aren't a single being but a collection of individuals differentiated by how they're written. Sonic can be written like Shard and Shard can be written like Sonic. What matters is how they're written here and now.

Cause SA1 and 2 are have goofy charm.

Because at the end of all this, Sonic's a cool dude who goes quick and searches for adventure. And as far as old 90's game icons go, apart from Solid Snake, he's up there.
So even now, I still respect the series and the franchise and the characters, although Pontaff should lay off the main games. If you're going to put my favourite blue dude in scenarios to sell a game at least put it together in a way that's not awful.

just played sonic Utopia for the first time

really impressive foe a fan game, the running felt really good, going along the roads was easy. There's a few actual sonic games I could think of that would dread making such turns.

i had trouble jumping on the floating platforms sometimes, he would often overrun.

nice to roll although I found running to be more effective.
