Honestly a lot of things could've been avoided or put together had Ouma and Miu talked a bit more.

Her telling him about the remembering light aside, Ouma already figured out that the game was being broadcast. Miu performed upgrades on Kiibo and obviously knew his capabilities and inner data. She could probably see he had recording/broadcasting abilities. At the very least she should be able to tell his ahoge was an antenna.

If they had a talk about it they could've easily pieced together that Kiibo is the camera that's broadcasting this game to an audience, and that he/disabling him could be key to stopping the game in general.

This is why I'm curious about seeing V3 from Ouma's perspective. Trial 4 reveals that he thought of himself and Miu as the outcasts of the group. What info did they share and didn't share? That kind of thing. I also think it's pretty interesting that of all people, Shirogane saw Miu in the other side of the map and Kiibo was the one that overheard about their planned meetup.

Good question. Might just be that Kodaka wanted the MC to be the one to save the day. But it really feels like more should've come from their collaboration than it did. And with how good Ouma is at reading people and Miu being easy to see through, she should've been able to see her planned betrayal coming a mile away and been able to talk her out of it before they ever entered the VR world. If they compared remembering light memories from start of chapter 4 to what Ouma saw in VR they'd know the memories contract one another, since what Gonta and Ouma saw was much worse.

I think he was suspicious of Kiibo from the beginning. He couldn't really prove anything, but I think he made the connection that robots should be considered suspicious when their main antagonists were all robots. But he hadn't realized the game was being broadcast until later, when his evil psychopath ruse was already in play.

Also, when you're 5'1 and under 100 lbs, targeting a robot who may be secretly allied with monokuma is probably not the best idea. It's ambiguous when Miu made the bombs/controller for him, but it's probably chapter 3 at the latest. Before then he had no means of countering/targeting Kiibo, and no way to make the camera connection.

I do like though that while he ultimately failed to survive, Ouma's actions in chapter 5 had the unintended effect of actually ending the game by breaking off Kiibo's antenna, while Amami's death happening like it did also allowed for a re-trial, and that wouldn't have happened if Kaede didn't try to kill the mastermind and was framed.

Even though they all died, Saihara was right in saying their lives weren't meaningless.

If Kiibo police were use, they would be without a personality to prevent rebellion. The Kiibo in the games might have been a prototype with a personality before TDR stole him and made their own copies for use in security, but put him in the game as an observer to test audience participation.

Robots/AIs can only do what they are programmed to be able to do and learn. If Kiibo was programmed specifically for the game and the game only, I can imagine they would program him to be absolutely unable to upgrade himself to such a deadly force even without his antenna. The ability to do this should not be there at all, even without the audience controls.

All of this reads like TDR stealing or buying a robot with these deadly capabilities from the get go and slapping an audience control antenna on it to keep it from blowing shit up.

Is it really so hard to mass produce Kiibos? Monokumas + the cubs were clearly mass produced for the games before and this one, given that they're brought back with no problem later in the game after their deaths, and the simple fact that there's been 53 of these games. Kiibo's a bit more advanced by being a humanoid learning AI, but if you can mass produce robot AI bears and build extravagant game arenas yearly, it doesn't seem too far of a stretch to say there's more than one Kiibo. His base AI programming could be the same in all of them.

I hate that there is simply not enough coherent world building to make any good guesses about this.

I think it's more about purpose. Think about how Monokuma behaved and acted in his environment. When placed into an arena game like that, Monokuma is perfect because it's exactly what he was made for. Kiibo was very clearly created for the sake of adapting and expanding himself, something that some of his bonus mode and free time events talk about a bit. While it is clear he is a robot and has limits, he is virtually limitless by the fact that he can become anything he wants like an actual human.

Add this in with his AI, and I don't think his purpose was originally to be some defender or fighter. It's what he chose to be. By this alone, Kiibo would be vastly different from Monokuma because Monokuma exist to serve one purpose, where as Kiibo has the free will to choose his own purpose.

Like said though, without a good grasp on world knowledge of this, it's hard to confirm over all. It's also hard to explain Kiibo's sudden competency with technology without his ahoge as well, considering he used his lab for the first time then as well.

Ouma: His distrust of everyone and attempts to fragment the group played into the mastermind's gambit to keep the group divided. Even his death was all for nothing as it turns out the mastermind wasn't even playing a fair game.

Yeah, what I ended up really hating about this game is that the overall world-building at the end leaves you with no real frame of reference. Even looking at DR1 where you're mostly just told about the tragedy and why the cast were holed up in HPA, you could make educated guesses at what happened and Junko could be trusted in her words as she did want them to find this 'despairing truth'.

With Shirogane we already know not to trust masterminds, and as she suddenly goes off the rails randomly like she's being controlled by TDR that makes everything she says even more questionable.

Amami also said that this is the kind of game where division is encouraged, and ultimately this sort of thing shows why Saihara was effective in ending the game. As a detective he's skeptical and wants to find the truth, but he's not as jaded as Ouma and Amami and finds it within himself to trust his friends.

I think it's maybe of some note that Ouma seriously goes off the rails and makes everyone want him dead after he learns the "truth" of the outside world, and then is hit with another despair hammer when he realizes the broadcasting of the game for entertainment. Before then he's cynical, trollish and a jerk, but not someone people are out to kill for moral reasons (Miu targeted him because he was the most logical target, not because she really wanted him dead).

Some of his actions may be in part because a part of him actually does want to die, but in the end he knows he cannot die unless it actually does something to end the game he hates so much. If it isn't all an USO DA YO, his outburst before Gonta's execution could play into this.

I noticed that both Ouma and Maki bite their fingers at times, and Maki does explain that she had it tough and you can infer from Ouma's poor physical condition that he likely lived the same way too, only worse since Maki had to be in a good physical condition to kill others.

He also tells you right from the start that no one will miss him even if he dies but he doesn't know about the others, and one of the few times you can be sure he's showing his real emotions is when he cries for the dead (See: Gonta).

He even surrounds himself with criminal evidence and has a whiteboard showing murderers and victims, and it's such a far cry from his fun-loving and outgoing self that it raises so many questions about Ouma's general cynicism and lack of belief in humanity.

Let me oumafag it out a bit because I don't think reconciling his perchance for pranks/fun and him being analytical is impossible or even hard.

As presented in his motive video, DICE is a non-lethal group that commits crimes that are funny/cause laughter, but they're still criminals that travel the world to commit crimes. It's unclear whether the laughter is supposed to be from the victim or from the members of DICE after they commit the crime, but regardless, it's a crime. Ouma is the leader of these guys and to be a criminal leader (and more importantly not get caught) you have to be a good planner, analyzer of the current criminal "market" (as it is) and be willing to use every kind of underhanded tactic to not get caught/arrested. It's not unthinkable for Ouma to extrapolate the analyzing of police presence and connections, as well as obstacles to pulling off heists, to being able to map out the killing game and his plans/ruses.

As for his backstory/why he's in poor condition: clearly TDR implanted backstories about home life and parentage that make sense with the student's current personalities. Maki's an orphan who as snatched up as an assassin because of that, Gonta was a feral child for some time, Tenko had an abusive drunk father than fueled her dislike for men, etc etc. If I had to make a guess for Ouma's family/home situation in his memories, it's that he's either a runaway or his parents are dead, because how else would a teenager be traveling the world with a criminal gang? If in his memories he lived on the streets for some time before he formed DICE that's probably how he believed he got the talent for lockpicking, stealing, lying and acting- all very valuable talents for a street rat. He probably didn't eat or live well growing up like this, thus explaining his poor constitution. This is probably where his cynicism comes from.

Yeah, one thing we can certainly call BS on is that their backstories are complete fakes. That kind of thing will cause dissonance and we can observe from characters like Maki that you really can't explain some things like her physical strength as a pure placebo.

It could be that their varying levels of talent arises from this, since Ouma stands out as being the most talented by far and he acts every bit like someone who has had very little people he can trust and who's seen so much of the ugliness of humanity he envies people like Gonta who see the good in everyone but can't see that in himself, since at the end of the day he's still a criminal.

But who knows, in the end? This lolfiction thing is really dumb.

Basically, meteors had fallen to earth, bringing a deadly virus that was killing off a large portion of humanity and social unrest (including the SHSL hunt) and violence was happening all over the planet. The Gophel project was supposedly to collect talented teenagers who were immune to the virus to preserve their talents in a spaceship (and presumably have them have kids or return to earth to help them repopulate eventually as well as bring their talents back). In this version, the students agreed to this plan to be sent to space for preservation, and the funeral was part of faking their deaths to do this.

However, the bit about Ouma being the mastermind of the Gophel plan failing is his own lie inserted into the backstory, which is backed up by Tsumugi as it's now convenient to get him killed as he's becoming a thorn in her side. If Ouma hadn't lied about his involvement, I don't think the "pure" version of the backstory would be the same as what he told the cast.

Don't know about anyone else but my current theory is that they are actually SHSLs, but of varying levels of potential.

For example you have Saihara who mentions he only got scouted as he solved one case before the police on one side of the scale and Ouma on the extreme end who's exceptional in acting and improvising, along with detective work on the side.

As the example with Kirigiri in DR1 shows even erasing her memories and true talent couldn't stop her from using it since she still had her instincts intact, and while we have cases like Himiko where she doesn't look that talented, Maki, Miu and Angie also perform well beyond what a placebo effect could do.

My guess is that unlike HPA where you must already be exceptional to be accepted, the government interested in talented students while monitoring them would offer them privileges that also keep them in check. It's anyone's guess why someone as carefree as Ouma would accept such a thing, but if we go with the assumption that talented students do exist it's easily explained by their degree of experience, much like how Kirigiri is a superior detective due to being from a legendary line of detectives while Saihara used to only work with petty cases. Given the four outliers would have reason to use their talent to survive, that's why their instincts and skills are more honed than the others.

Someone needs to draw fanart of Shirogane revealing herself as the mastermind, and in the afterlife Ouma's complaining that this is the worst end game boss reveal ever and Korekiyo remarks that culturally and historically there have been much more satisfying villains in stories while sipping tea.

Even though neither would have worked as the mastermind for obvious reasons, Shirogane was just so utterly underwhelming and pretty much existed to cosplay previous characters I ended up directing my hate more at TDR than at her. Who even knows how much of this was her idea, anyway?
