Forge and customs are GOAT. Campaign was a 5-6. Multiplayer IMO is only an 8. Warzone is OK but too repetitive.....But I think Forge+customs is beyond all those .

No brutes are giant bears pretty much crossed with apes. Yeah they have a thick hide and sure are harder to kill, but that doesn't make them as OP as everyone thinks they are. In those books I love Eric to death but he makes the Brutes seem stupidly overpowered. Remember they are below Hunters on the scale, Spartans have beaten Hunters in CQC, yet get wrecked by Brutes what kind of shit is that. Here is how I will put it and how the canon should really go on them. That is debatable, I think they're so strong because of the gravity, but not twice the strength of something their size. But we would have to do calculations and I'm no biological engineer or evolutionary expert. I think the high gravity did account for their strength but no more then to the point where they are twice in strength of something equal size. The games population is too low and spread across too many playlists, I get matched up against parties way too often or join losing games. Warzone is also a nightmare at this point, almost everyone has a ton of REQs now considering how long the game has been out. Every game is like Warzone Turbo which ruins the pace the games used to have.

I think I'm done with Halo 5 for good now. At least I got more game time out of it than 4.

I gave a few examples of Halo being really good sci-fi. The novels and Contact Harvest are perfect examples of Halo being Sci-Fi as fuck.
But the series as a whole, especially the games, never really have that feel of "How does this affect people?"
Halo 1: You're the Hero, Master Paladin, and while fighting the hordes of evil you find the ancient ruins of an older race, and the horde thinks the ruins will let them all ascend to heaven, but the ruins are instead a giant magical spell that will destroy the entire kingdom.
If your story, stripped of sci-fi dressing, still works, it's probably some kind of fantasy first. Not to say that's bad, Science Fantasy is fun as shit.
For another example, Back to the Future is sci-fi because despite time travel not existing, the movies have a relationship with the technology. What would these characters do with a time machine? They have adventures, but they're all caused by, and revolve around, this piece of technology, and the plot would fall apart without it.

The simplest way to describe the difference is that fantasy is "You can turn invisible, use this power to stop the bad guy" while Sci-fi is more "You can turn invisible, how can you turn invisible? How does it affect you? Can you use it to stop the bad guy?"

Not a requirement of scifi, Arena doesn't satisfy those.
The plot of Foundation could easily be shifted to some other time period but it's still scifi.

But this is wrong, plenty of classic scifi stories don't do this. And from what I remember in Mass Effect there is questions about how things like synthetic life etc will impact everyone.

To be fair with Halo 4, it was more of a story about the relationship between Chief and Cortana and dealing with Cortana's mortality. In terms of world building, it was pretty shit, but I thought they covered Chief and Cortana pretty well. That last scene with Cortana encasing Chief in the hard light cube after the Composer blew up was fantastic, IMO.

343 is/was the absolute worst thing to ever happen to the Halo franchise. They prided themselves on being fans of the Halo games, and instead of continuing on the story in Bungie's vision, they basically went through and found anything that was a mystery or interesting about the series and shoehorned in an explanation for it which made it lose all of its charm. That along with trying to normalize the gameplay to emulate COD that pushed away a good portion of the fanbase, myself included.

Reach WAS a Halo game, the armor abilities were a nice feature that felt like a natural transition for the series. And I'm not even going on about it because I'm a Bungie fanboy, I think Halo Wars felt more like a Halo game than 4 or 5 did. And Its not about learning more about the Forerunners, it's how you go about doing it and making it interesting. Bungie did 10+ years of groundwork and storytelling only to have everything they did fumble, crash, and burn.

I have always disagreed with this criticism of 4.
To me, 4 is worse than Reach, but not because it "continued the trend of Reach". In fact, I think the aspects of Reach that return in 4 are actually largely fixed or improved. Armor Abilities are far less game breaking, map design is less focused around them, so jet pack isn't a big deal, and the armor customization is more based on accomplishing various feats and commondations rather than just an arbitrary rank and credit count.

Instead, I have always felt that the things most wrong with 4 are completely original implementations. Loadouts, ordinance, infinity slayer, spawning with stikies, spartan ops, intentional AI retardation, just to name a few.
