It's not as far away as you'd be first led to believe. You're basically one balcony and a medium-size corridor away from it. Also, have a Ring of Sacrifice equipped, because if you die with it equipped you won't create a new bloodstain, and as a result your billion souls laying on the ground won't be overwritten. At least I think that's how it works.

Seath's boss room is the one instance in the game's normal progression where you're forced to outright die

I rewatched the intro video and it seems to actually answer this question

>Prince Lothric refuses to become a lord
>as a result the bell tolls, and the old lords awake from their coffins
>all of them fuck off, world begins to goes dark
>the unknown who would become the soul of cinder takes the legless Ludleth (either already legless and thus unable to take his throne, or his legs were cut off to keep him from absconding), plants him on his throne, and uses this small amount of soul energy to relink the flame.

there also seems to be a second person there, watching, which makes this entire issue kinda murky and suspicious. are we going to learn what happened in the new DLC?
>>
>>167551726

What? Magic, especially dark magic after the DLC, was the most dominant caster type.

So I reinstalled DaS after reformatting my PC and installed DSFix, the UI for DSFix and DS PVP Watchdog. Thing is, the game won't start because it keeps crashing before even getting to the main menu. if you go by the soul of lords description, which states that the first flame has manifested itself in a protector of the flame, that role of protector could also entail an entity that forcibly relinks itself should it start to go out.

In such a case, the flame itself would be a self-fulfilling cycle and curse.

>>
>>167552032

The Age of Fire is all that they've ever known, and what little they've seen of the Age of Dark has been horrifying to them. It's the fear of the unknown that keeps people struggling to link the flame.

Though with the old Lords gone (not the Lords of Cinder, the old gods), it's really just people who have been indoctrinated into the "religion" of the flame that keep it going. There are certainly agents that wish to have it snuffed out, like Londor.
>>
>>167552032
Well it worked very well for a while until the process grew inefficient enough that by the end of DSIII linking the Flame barely looks like it has bought you more than a week.

The painter currently is the only half-dragon who looks the most human, with the only malformalities being the eyes and scales.

Yorshka and Pricilla have spines and horns protruding from them, weird noodly bodies, Pricilla's gown is actually part of her body and she almost has a unibrow with that fur on her forehead. Their faces are mishapen, Pricilla's face is too wide for her mouth, nose, and eyes while Yorshka has the head of an infant on a mishapen adult-like body.
>>
>>167552264
Twin Princes' Greatsword:
Heavily overhauled. STR requirement lowered to 16.FTH now affect both physical and fire damage. Scaling changed so that the AR with either a quality or pyomancy build (with base requirements) is the same. It reaches 403 AR, which is lower than before, BUT the L2R1 attack now bless the weapon, immediately restoring 40 HP to the wielder and granting a blessed weapon buff that restores 2 HP/sec for 30 seconds, while the L2R2 attack now adds 70 fire damage.

I can't find it in any dialogue so perhaps I was wrong, but he does say several times he's a Lord of his own volition and if the flame did burn his legs off, he wouldn't have bled as he did. Plus he does at one point have a nightmare of his own death when he kindled the flame after he revives once you kill him, so it seems like he could have taken his own legs off so he wouldn't be able to leave.

Or perhaps someone else did, though I can't think of who.
>>
>>167552296 see >>167552217

it could literally be linking itself at this point, souls have already been shown to be capable of manifesting as beings with wants and needs, including the first flame.

>>
>>167552540

That's possible, but it is dying and the fire keeper doesn't seem to think so. But perhaps the Lords of Cinder that fled didn't want the Age of Fire to end (or didn't want to die again), they just knew that the flame was rekindling itself?

I'm not really sure. The Soul of Cinder is definitely an amalgamation of the souls that have been used to kindle the flame, though.

The boss is basically a DPS race, if you don't have good damage output (or if you summon Beatrice) then you easily get overwhelmed by all four at once.

You get plenty of space and time to heal, the only problem comes if you get hit by the grab attack, and only because it takes away time that could otherwise be used to beat down the current king before the next one shows up.

the firekeeper is blind though, to hide her from things she's not meant to see. After you give her eyes, she immediately turns to putting out the flame. It's possible they just don't tell you.

and the intro literally does show you the soul of cinder, with damaged armour, literally dragging a body past a bonfire during an age of dark.
>>
>>167549702
only the first bit of rolling is invincible.
roll catching involves predicting when they're gonna roll (if they're new/bad/predictable it will be immediately after hitstun ends) and timing your attack to hit after their roll

if your opponent predictably rolls backwards you can just do r1->r1-> jump attack, and the jump will hit them just as their roll finishes. only worthwhile if they're predictable though, because if they don't roll away the jump attack leaves you vulnerable
>>
>>167553271

Is she really eager to put of the flame? I'm finishing my playthrough of that ending now, and her dialogue seems to imply she's turning a blind eye to it as it is her duty above all to serve you. She DID say that she saw the Age of Dark and what looked like twinkling little flames, so maybe that's the start of it.

Though I've already finished NG+ with this playthrough and just haven't yet let the flame die.

I tried this weapon out on a whim, and I actually really like it. The moveset feels comfy and the WA that changes it makes it even more fun. It doesn't seem to do as much as it could though, even at Refined and 40/40. Is it just a lower damage weapon because of its decent moveset?

Also I never see anyone using it, which is a shame.
>>
>>167552441
who thought that was okay

a 22 str req is not exactly a lot, anyone who isn't using at least 26 on a weapon that needs to be twohanded for hyperarmor is probably retarded. Plus the faith scaling was already good enough to warrant going to 26/40/25 instead of 40/40 for the sake of casting bountiful light, as you get identical AR either way (probably a bit less damage with the latter due to being more split, but you didn't have 2r pokes to begin with).

like just buff wolnir's instead

Let's put this into perspective:

You farmed a large amount of souls. And had humanities that you claim couldn't do anything with anyways.

You decide to go into a dungeon blind, with all of that in tow instead of spending them one way or another.

And enter the boss arena in a game known for bosses that will kill you several times before you finally learn how to beat them.

You then die to the boss that you knew nothing about.

And somehow it's the game's fault?

Congratulations, I think we've finally found someone who's more retarded than Lucifer.

>>167557591

>>
>tfw you lose to twin winged axes
>>
>>167557591
Dying was outside of your control.
Going through a bossfog blind with more souls than you are comfortable losing was a decision you made.
Not equipping a ring of sacrifice or using a homeward bone after realizing you couldn't win was a decision you made.
Coming here and bitching about it was also a decision you made.
>>
>>167557591
Why did you think you could beat him on your first try? Even if you're under the delusion that you're somehow good enough to beat bosses in this game on your first try, why would you at the same time be stupid enough to carry around that many souls instead of spending them?

Perhaps the problem doesn't lie with the game, but rather with you and your sense of logic instead.

I mean, if you're just trolling us all for our entertainment that's fine too. But I find it difficult to believe that someone actually is this stupid.

Valorheart's only issue with it's r1s is that the third one looks cool but rarely if ever blocks only after the r1 which defeats the purpose of it. Other than that VH is a solid trading weapon that relies on nonstaggerable trades via block. You just need to work in the timing and it's right before the attack; just be careful that the first few frames is the shitty block so if someone were to hit you early, you end up canceling your attack by blocking and risk being guardbroken.

Yeah, you were that guy I think I backstabbed out of the prostration gesture, but then I did it too and ate a stunlock and eventually lost I think

Getting in on valorheart with another straightsword is hard, I can't swing if you're in a position to throw out a safe attack (as I could likely just get blocked), and even if I block your attack with BKS, I can't really follow it up. It's like a lower risk/reward version of a parry that doubles as an ordinary attack. Hard to do anything to a good VH user unless they whiff or let you get a parry. My only solid advantage is that I can block more, which helps in most other matchups but doesn't do me much good against VH.

>>167558435
>>167558694
You accept the fact that you've got an all around worse time getting hitconfirms than straightswords, but take solace in the fact that you can weaponart off of an r1. Weaponarts and stat efficiency aside, it's just a downgrade of any ordinary straightsword.

There is a chance of success. Just make it through the rest of the level without dying, and go get your souls back. If you really are as good as you think you are, it shouldn't be a problem, right?

And this death is just as forced as any other death spot in the game. Did you whine when you got poisoned to death by the blowdart snipers in Blighttown? Or when you got knocked off the first bridge in Sen's Fortress into the two Titanite Demons below? Or when you got impaled by those greatbow Silver Knights in Anor Londo? Or when you got your ass kicked by Ornstein and Smough?

Dying to the boss because he's unbeatable on his first try, and being mad because he's unbeatable, is understandable. Being mad that you made the stupid fucking decision not to spend all those souls, and the game punishing you for it like it would anywhere else, is just plain autistic.

Only death I had no way of seeing and avoiding before was the first trap chest. Which since I had already gone through the area I knew what I would need to get everything back.

I didnt even know they were down there until I beat the fortress and was collecting everything.

Made me salty as fuck but still didnt die since they started firing long before I got to the narrow walk way and hidden body slumber crest ring combo makes getting up easy which I spam. I died because I tried to fight the one on the left first which was my fault.
>Or when you got your ass kicked by Ornstein and Smough?

so basically you went through the game on your first playthrough with the bitch mode "I don't actually want to play" rings and now you're salty when the game actually pulled a trick you weren't able to cheese your way past
>>

If we're including WAs War Cry in terms of speed and effective damage it gives.

You cant cheese a boss or at least I havent been able to. An unbeatable boss isnt playing a trick. Its shit level design.
The fact that you think an unbeatable boss is acceptable shows how shit your opinion is.

Yes, but you can also use the newly buffed things (i.e. Deep Protection, Steel Protection ring, etc) with already OP shit. I feel like that cancels it out.

>So if I understand this correctly for the patch, the Twin Princes' Greatsword is now going to be better suited for Str/Fai or Dex/Fai builds?

Yeah, I think that's what the creator is trying to do. You get the same AR as a quality setup would, but with investments in different stats.

Its not because I spawn a known location and can easily beeline back to get the souls without exploring and be far more prepared. Killed many bosses first try. Theres no excuse for an unbeatable boss to just rob you. Failing to beat a boss is completely different.
>>
>>167562396

Not really, bloodring midrolls are better than normal lightrolls. If you're a caster the extra distance on lightrolls helps a bit for buying yourself casting time.

>>167561783
>blessed weapon
its strictly inferior to replenishment though, not worth it until you've cast replenishment

it adds a little over 50 AR tops and lasts 45 seconds, healing up to 45 hp. Replenishment heals up to 300. Even if you land two stunlocks and actually add 50 damage to each swing, with the 45 hp added on there's only a 245 hp difference between you and your opponent. Unless you get a big fugs counterhit it's just a second spell. It deserves to last 60 seconds.

>CMW
CMW is technically the best buff of its kind but it's cast from worse tools than miracles
it multiplies your spellbuff by more than DMB but DMB can be cast from yorshka's chime etc, which does more than compensate.
>>
>>167562534
You can keep all your souls with a ring of life protection, but most people agree. The first seath "fight" is really fucking stupid and dumb.
The only thing I think could be even more stupid and dumb wasting a shitload of time farming around nearly half a mil in souls without spending them on anything, and deciding to wander into a new area you haven't been in yet. You did not play cautiously and you got shit on for it, so I'm not seeing a problem here.

Wanna know what I sometimes do for fun on playthroughs? In the Archives, just after the 3rd encounter on the bridge way with the main sorcerer dude, when you walk up the stairs there's that elevator leading to a small room that opens up a shortcut to the beginning. Well, I'll run past everything, go to that room, send the elevator back up, leave the shortcut closed and just sit there and let invaders wander around aimlessly. 9 out of 10 times they BC out after about 10 minutes of searching. With the enemies alive and the elevator up yet the shortcut closed still, they don't think to check. I've left my character there, went to the store, and came back to people still searching or have BC'd out.

That's what happened the first time I ran into Seath, I attacked him, went "oh shit did I miss an item I need to hurt him?", homeboned back to Anor Londo and then combed through the archives until I finally just went in and tried him again and died.

If you entered the boss room without making proper preparation (as you're intended to die here), there are several places in there for you to be able to safely customize your equipment or quit your game (you'll spawn outside the fog gate after you load your game):
You are able to turn right around and go through the fog gate, thus exiting the room if you feel this isn't a good time to fight him
Immediately in front of the fog, after you enter the boss room; provided you do not move, Seath does not initiate his attacks
In the far upper left corner, at the bookshelves
A slight gap just in front of Seath (you need to get really close). if you stand here, most of Seath's breath attacks will not hit you

Once you head into the graveyard past Firelink Shrine, and the place beyond that, you'll also witness just how interconnected this game is, it's fucking awesome.

By playing with the stealth rings and your "whatever, gun it back to the bloodstain attitude" you've robbed yourself of a learning opportunity it wants you to have very early on, that running around with large amounts of souls and expecting not to lose them is something the game will punish and will only waste your time.

Congrats you just learned your lesson.

These two posts together explain your entire problem, you can't handle failure or losing progress at all, dying is ok if only because you can get your souls back and its like nothing happened at all. You weren't robbed, you died and are unable to retrieve your souls, this common and should be expected, it's part of the game. To mitigate this in the future, don't grind for souls and then walk into an area blind without spending them.
If you don't like it you don't like the game.

It's good level design though, you're blindsided by a boss who's likely the first you're encountering in the second stage of the game and then put on disorienting footing by having your just given warping ability taken away and forced to find your way out, it reminds you that the game still has fangs after you've climbed what was up to that point the highest summit and got to enjoy the best reward the game has to offer up to that point. By doing this it resets the tone and refocuses you to climb back up to the next ultimate challenge.

You seem to have made a critical error in your understanding of the game.

Losing to an unkillable boss does not make that part of the game unbeatable. You still progressed forward, and can unlock more areas of the game as you play, and eventually actually beat the boss.

Losing those souls is not an example of failure. You, in fact, gained something: knowledge in that what you did was fucking stupid, and you should probably not do it again.

What you do need to do is to lose that scripted fight and make progress in Duke's to eventually beat the game, souls are only there to help you beat the game and you don't need any more to do that.

Why do people say Bloodborne doesn't give the main character a reason and a purpose to do the things he/she does?

You initially seek Paleblood, and the prople you ask around don't know what the fuck you're talking about so they guide you to cathedral ward and into the grand cathedral because that's where you would likely find anything blood related and that's where the church succesfully learned how to reproduce old blood. Gherman tells you to kill a few beasts, and Gilbert guides you all the way to Cathedral Ward, telling you about the bridge and then the aqueduct when you realize the bride to Cathedral Ward is closed. The gate to CW is locked so Gherman tells you to seek a chalice in the Valley Hamlet past Old Yharnam to become stronger. You do so and the Gherman tells you to go to the church workshop, which you can now do after getting the chalice. You work your way around and get into CW, all while hearing all about Byrgenwerth and its spider keeping a secret. You arrive at Grand Cathedral and a note tells you to touch Laurence's skull. You kill Amelia and get acces to the skull, which points you into the direction of Byrgenwerth to find this spider. You make your way to Byrgenwerth and after destroying what kept the secret ritual (Rom) Mergo is born and you are tasked with killing him to end the nightmare.

No different than Dark Souls 1's "Ring two bells and something happens." You got a main purpose (complete chosen undead prophesy/seek paleblood) and you do a bunch of random shit other people tell you to do that you don't know how it connects to your main purpose until you do them.

KF and Shadow Tower are extremely niche for modern audiences and are mostly known as the souls before souls to veteran Souls players. There isn't much fanart because they predated the era of the internet being an easy way to share artwork and talk with like-minded video game enthusiasts.

And they weren't the mass appeal meme games that the souls games are today thanks to the western market.

No, that's ds2. Ds1's shtick has always been "punishing but fair". There is nothing fair about Seath's first encounter. They do let you back out of the foggate iirc, but since this wasn't true for any bossfight there is no reason for the player to try it. If Logan or the Darkmoon Knightess had some piece of dialogue that would hint at the state of the bossfight, it would have been forgivable. Forcing a player to die, especially at a point they may lose a lot, is a shitty design choice

"DS2 is bad" is a meme that spread like wildfire.
DS3 is legitimately bad in design and concept with more forcefed references than a Family Guy episode, couple with boring linear PvE with no replayability. Also pile that on with the terrible """""poise"""""" gank-fest that is the PvP aspect with no build variety and broken covenants. Seeing how bad Ashes of Ariandel was recieved, it is FOOLISH to assume that the Ringed City will close ANY plotholes remaining, or any that players actually care about.

Ornstein and Artorias are at least "deities". Part of Gwyn's godrace, along with his family and silver knights. Smough is a giant, not affected by occult modifiers. Lothric Princes are probably humans but I don't think it's outright stated. They most likely have some of Gwyn's blood but are afflicted with humanity and therefore humans. They are cursed after all. Size is often indicative of power rather than race.

The bloodstain should still be in there, and so is Seath. However, it's the one boss fog gate in the game that you can walk through backwards, so your souls are retrievable.

And yes, that's a very bullshit moment, it's easily the single worst instance of design in the game. It's also the reason "the game is best if you go in blind" is complete and utter bullshit.

So in the interest of clarity: you cannot defeat him while he is in that room. You have to fight him elsewhere.

>>
>>167577363

>>
>>167577363
In a way, Dark Souls is just a really fucked up family reunion
>>
Finally figured out the true form of man.

The sable church of Londor (and most players) believe that man's true form is hollow. A withered, rotten, blind, borderline/completely mad thing covered in oozing sores. It only takes a little common sense to see that this is a diseased state. Furthermore, the hollows only started appearing when Gwyn disrupted the cycle of nature.

Now in DS3, we see the Pus of Humanity, a new enemy where hollows taken over by the dark turn into these rampaging serpent things. We also get attacked by a pilgrim, and see that they are actually serpent-like as well. Their clothes tell us that this is an involuntary transformation and they are trying to keep it hidden.

Now, we know the dragons are actually elemental spirits who created their own bodies as vessels. The serpents are imperfect dragons, who could not create a true dragon form because they were not powerful enough.

Now what about humans? We know from Manus that humans are capable of creating a new and more powerful body for themselves out of sheer willpower; but this was well during the age of firw, and was only possible because Manus was driven mad.

Now, in DS3, the age of dark has already begun as we learn from the hidden area. People are already turning into their true forms: that of primordial serpents. However, those who have gone mad or hollow remain mad when they turn into serpents, and become extremely dangerous; hence why the false age of fire must be ended before the transformation of mankind is completed.

This is why Kaathe lives in the abyss with a legion of serpents, and why they all choose to serve the chosen undead in DS1. We all asaumed that Kaathe's experiments were a failure; but what if they were a success? What if in Oolacile, he was able to create the abyss as a safe haven for his kind; and in New Londo, he was able to successfully convert a handful of humans into their true forms?
>>
>>167577415
They are not.
Primeval simply means he's from the first ages of existence, not a source of all humanity.
>>
>>167577435
And TRC's setting is perfect for letting us fight it because majority of Hollows are obviously destroyed at that point and their fragments of Dark Souls could already be reuniting into nearly complete thing.

>>
>>167577894
They were basically hollows too, extremely weak and nearly soulless humans, but they weren't immortal like the hollows are. The hollows represent a state similar to the fire: weakened and dying but unable to die completely.

The pygmy gave them parts of his soul that turned them into humans; but Gwyn already existed, the knights already existed, the witches already existed. There were already humans before the pygmy performed his charity act.

Some believe that Gwyn and friends were actually a different race, based solely on the fact that they are taller (but not as big as giants). I believe their size is only related to the strength of their souls, that their power allows them to take on a larger form. We see Ornstein do this himself: grow in power when he harvests Smough's soul. Solaire is probably the firstborn of Gwynn, who was probably stripped of most of his souls along with his status, and now has a human-like form.
>>
>>167578096
What make you said that? The face look more sculpted than mumuffied, I'd say it's a crude representation of Priscilla made by the Corvian, I might be wrong, but I doubt it's a corpse. We will never know anyway because there are no true awnser as the creator doesnt even know himself

>>
>>167578502
>We see Ornstein do this himself: grow in power when he harvests Smough's soul.
Meant to say "grow in size".

Also: why doesn't the chosen undead grow too? He simply isn't that powerful. Even when he absorbs the souls of the gods, it is a lossy conversion and he only gains a smidgeon of their power (unless Gwynn is only level 30 or so all along, given the amount of levels his soul gives you). The rest of the souls presumably go out into the wild, to create new life.

While the bosses blast you with one hit kill attacks and have huge health pools, the chosen undead is actually rather weak and only survives through skill, and immortality combined with determination.
>>
>>167578502
>they weren't immortal like the hollows are. The hollows represent a state similar to the fire: weakened and dying but unable to die completely
Any proof at all for this? As far as I know we have no info at all on the origin of Them or what they were doing before fire came to be.

Also do you mean Gwyn already existed before They did? If so I'd say the intro seems pretty clear that he is one of them.

That's fucking stupid, you're stupid. You should feel stupid about all your stupidity.

Fill a glass bottle with water. Does the glass bottle turn into stone? Does the glass bottle become shatter resistant? Does the glass bottle become harder to break?

No, the glass bottle is still glass. It's just a glass bottle filled with water now.

"But but but, you level up in stats and stuff! W-what do you mean you don't get stronger!!"

You feed the darksign, the darksign makes you stronger. You can see this happening in Darksouls 3, the darksign and nothing else literally makes you stronger just by existing on you.

You just, arn't using the souls. That's literally why you don't grow in size. You are feeding your darksign. Which is a literal hole/vortex in your body. You as a "chosen undead" are literally a bottle made to carry souls.

"WHY WOULD ANYONE FEED THE DARKSIGN IF THEY COULD JUST ABSORB THE SOULS AND BECOME MUH GOD"

In the dark souls universe some fag with a sword can kill a god. Being a god isn't that great. On the other hand, your darksign threatens to consume you every second of the day and make you a mindless zombie raisin unless you feed it souls. So whats your first priority?

It is stated somewhere (sorry, don't have the exact quote) that the darksign only appeared after the first linking. Until then, there was no undeath.

"They" in the beginning are probably -like- hollows but not afflicted with the darksign: which is caused by the first flame and prevents them from ever dying. The darksign is a pretty terrible thing, since it causes entire kingdoms to be destroyed when the citizens turn immortal and start killing eachother.

Its been a while since I saw the first intro, I am hazy on whether Gwynn is one of "They".

So what are "They" (aka humans)? Just the biggest losers. If the serpents were too weak to create a dragon body; They were too weak to even create a serpent body. Just one that is barely conscious. So in a sense, this is the natural state of man, but not a good one. Those with more power created healthier bodies. In an Age of Man (dark), they will transition into even more powerful bodies.

On a totally tangential sidenote, if what makes a dragon a dragon is the scales of immortality, then Seathe is not a dragon either, but a serpent. Just one that came really close to being a dragon. So on that logic, he never really betrayed the dragons since he was never one of them to begin with.
>>
>>167579486

There are three main theories on Ludleth, any all or none might be true.

1: He was exiled because of transposition.

2: He's a soul eater, a being that exists by living on souls.

3: He failed to Link the Flame by pussying out. In his sleep he talks about the agony of flame and that it's "not his fault" and that he was unable to go through with "it". He's also the only Lord who seems to looks like a charred corpse, possibly suggesting that he was never reborn like the other Lords, simply continuing to live through his undead nature and never actually Linked the Flame.

The fact that he's aware of the dead Firekeeper in the Dark Firelink also points towards him being alive at a time when the Dark covered the world.
>>
>>167579184
Don't shit your pants, all you're doing is offering an alternate reason why what I said is correct: the chosen undead isn't very soul-strong and can't directly absorb the full strength of a soul.
>>
>>167579731
>The fact that he's aware of the dead Firekeeper in the Dark Firelink also points towards him being alive at a time when the Dark covered the world.
This. He is an "exile" not from a kingdom, but from his home timeline.

In Lordran the flow of time is distorted. Lothric is Lordran in the future. Home Firelink is an alternate timeline. Dark Firelink is the REAL timeline where the age of dark has begun. Notice how the entire world is interconnectes EXCEPT light firelink? You can only leave there via teleportation. Dark firelink, on the other hand, is physically connected to Lothric castle.

I think that Ludleth saw the age of dark and then regretted letting it happen, and came back to change things. He also says that the firekeeper had a "vision of betrayal" when you gave her the eyes, and he tried to keep these things from her.

Maybe he's a future version of Prince Lorian or something. (Total asspull on this here)
>>
>>167579486
You're partially right about some things, and completely off base about others.

The darksign is a curse, that "simply seems to appear" on some people.later we find out that it's a curse someone specifically puts on you. The "normal world" of people is still around, not everyone has a darksign in fact theres entire cities of people normal ass cities that are fine without the darksign. We learn about this from Reah and Petrus. Reah is of noble birth, and it's very strange for a noble to get the darksign, and they arn't really sure what the fuck to do about it. They can't very well put a noble in shackles and throw her in a cage for having a darksign, Why not? because they don't want to admit a noble CAN get a darksign, but they can't keep her around because they don't really understand the darksign, so they send her to the place where they send all darksigns anyway, but under the guise of it being a "special mission" They even send her with very capable bodyguards because they really want to mission to seem legitimate, though they expect her to die there anyway.

The darksign is pretty much like leprosy. Nobody knows how the fuck it works and they know people who get it start turning into raisins and can't be conventionally killed, so they just send them away.

>>167579746
Your reason makes far FAR reaching assumptions for literally no reason, and only works if you randomly believe a shit ton of stuff that we've never been told, and that you literally made up for no reason.

Things we actually know.
1. Feeding souls to the darksign seems to calm it, people talk about that.
2. People who give up and stop feeding their sign seem to go hollow and lose all senses.
3. The darksign literally provides strength
4. You feed the darksign your souls.

I mean the conclusion is completely obvious to anyone with half a braincell. You're using those souls to prolong your time being sane. The more souls the longer you can stay sane.

>>167580084
>In Lordran the flow of time is distorted
>makes wild assumptions about nothing based on that.

the flow of time is distorted because your brain doesn't work properly. Is this the first time you're doing something? is this the billionth time you're doing something? Does it matter? Nobody can remember, people can barely remember their own names, their families, did you stop and sit at the bonfire then immediately get back up? Did you sit down for centuries?

Thats what they meant by time being distorted.
>>
>>167579486
"They" were the Lords, they were Hollows. Nito, the Witch, Gwyn and the Pygmy.
The Pygmy, having found the Dark Soul, split it up amongst the Hollows without Lord Souls and created humanity.

Hollows, that is, the physical bodies, are just empty vessels. If you put the Flame into one you get a God, if you put Dark into one you get a human.

The Dark Sign is bad because it "leaks" Humanity, eventually just leaving an empty Hollow.

Man's natural state is not the Hollow, but rather the Dark Soul itself.
We see humanity's true form in the Abyss, on the way to fight Manus.

OK. But those without a darksign are also able to claim souls. The Lords found souls in a fire and didn't have a darksign, and Ornstein absorbed souls from Smough. These beings became very powerful, yet when you take their powers, you are still just a small guy running aroubd dodging lightning bolts, except with 2 more points in strength.

I agree completely that the darksign is a curse, and I like the idea that you need to feed it souls. I do know that the description is that it "oozes humanity", which seems to imply that, yes, you are losing something through it, like it is a wound.

I may not have encyclopedic knowledge of the game but you don't have to be rude about it, especially because we seem to agree on a lot of key matters.

They literally put the darksign on you. They literally put it on Anri too.

>>167580430
Because YOU arn't absorbing the souls. You are feeding them to your sign. Imagine you have a parasite, and you try to eat food, and the parasite eats the food literally out from you.

That's how the darksign functions. You arn't growing in size and becoming a god man because your darksign is eating the souls. The darksign is a curse meant to compel people to get more souls in order to create a super dense soul mass to burn, and giving that soul mass to the fittest vessel.

So think of it like this. You put 100 people with darksigns around a small area, and tell them they will go insane unless they collect souls, so they run around collecting souls, and it's not long before they realize that a faster way to collect souls is to take them from other people collecting those souls. So they all start trying to take eachothers souls till theres only one sane man left in the world. We can see this event taking place in DS1, almost ALL npcs eventually die off and you end up taking their souls.

THEN you meet the final boss and he has a darksign too and you realize it doesn't matter if you win or lose this fight. Whoever wins will have all the souls now, and will keep burning here.
>>
Unofficial patch FC fucking when? at least it will be something new
>>
>>167580701
The working theory is that you don't use the full strength of their souls. The absorbtion loses some power, possibly because of the darksign needing to be fed a portion of it. You get maybe like 1% of their power in the end.

The Lord souls provide consciousness like the Dark Soul. Anyone with a shard of a Lord soul is conscious. IE Gwyndolin is clearly conscious but has no humanity.

Gwyn also split apart his Lord soul and gave it to his followers and children. He was much stingier than the pygmy though.

Being stripped of godhood means being stripped of the Lord Soul.

However, without a soul, a being can keep going, as an empty vessel, if the previous soul instilled in it a strong enough desire.

IF Solaire is the firstborn, which may or may not have been debunked (need to look into it), then his desire as a hollow to find his own sun, kept him going long enough to aquire dark souls of his own. But he may not have actually used them, since he does go insane after all when he finds the glowbug.

I never implied otherwise, what's your point
>Being stripped of godhood means being stripped of the Lord Soul.
How do you know? He could be simply stripped of his heritage as a god of Anor Londo. The fact that he can use lightning in 3 suggests he wasn't
>However, without a soul, a being can keep going, as an empty vessel, if the previous soul instilled in it a strong enough desire.
You're making things up. A hollow has no desires other than the proximity of flame

>Man's natural state is not the Hollow, but rather the Dark Soul itself.
>We see humanity's true form in the Abyss, on the way to fight Manus.
In the purest sense, the wisp of humanity is mankind's truest form. However, these beings tend to create bodies for themselves. The dragons were the greatest spirits, the truest gods. The beings that came after created weaker forms, but even as they grew in power, remained attached to their old shapes.

They don't create a body in the sense that they get a hammer and chistle, but rather, a body seems to form around them; and theie bodies can change; though all of this happens naturally and involuntarily.

In an age of Dark, all humans will turn into Serpents, as evidenced by the Pus of Humanity and the Pilgrims; and in the Serpents' interest in humans, the dark, ans the transformation of humans. That is my theory.

>>167581486
Solaire is not Gwyn's first born. It was an old theory that Dark Souls 3 debunked by introducing the the Nameless King who is clearly Gwyn's first born.

Also, Solair doesn't have to go insane, he can be saved and you can summon him to fight Gwyn. Miyazaki even stated that Solaire Linked the Flame in him world as you (potentially) do in yours.
>>
>>167581734
>No you're just insane

An explanation which assumes that you're Solaire and which does not at all explain why you can summon dead people into your world.
>>
Adds to HA. You have poise health. Weapon classes have different amount of poise damage. If you have enough poise health to survive one hit, it will reset after one hit and you won't get staggered as long as you attack in HA frames.

So no, sadly we can't make katana havels.
>>
>>167582020
>Miyazaki even stated that Solaire Linked the Flame in him world as you (potentially) do in yours.

Not him, but can I have a source for this? I've seen a lot of people say it but the most I've ever gotten is links to dead (or nonexistent) websites and Imgur galleries.
>>
>>167582043
BECAUSE YOURE INSANE NONE OF THAT SHIT IS HAPPENING RETARD
>>
>>167581780
The point is that undead can keep from losing their sanity if they have a purpose, even if they have 0 humanity at all.

The dark soul is literally a person's soul. The body is a vessel. If a person dies, they lose their soul and go hollow, but can keep going on their last desires. But over time these fade, they lose their sense of reason, and go insane and just start attacking everything in sight.

We know that the Firstborn was stripped of godhood. Godhood is derived from the Lord Soul. If the Firstborn was truly stripped, he would have had his Lord Soul taken. The whole thing could have been purely honorary, but there would be nothing to stop him from claiming to be a god.

My point, which you would have realized if you weren't mentally retardes, was that Solaire could have been stripped and kept going long enough to get some humanity, from a rat for all we know, or even just kept going without any souls, through sheer remnant willpower.

The FTH and INT scaling and requierement are quite low, so I'd say you have to focus on STR.

Yoel gives you a DARK SIGIL, not a DARK SIGN. You have a Dark Sign from the beginning of the game.

The player character in Dark Souls 3 is an Unkindled, a special type of Undead who can't go Hollow (because they can't lose their humanity) and is particularly good at gathering strength and souls. They're created from regular Undead who've somehow 'died.' Lothric uses them to assist in Linking the Fire.

Yoel and Yuria's quest line involves you getting Dark Sigils. Dark Sigils are a means of getting the Humanity out of Unkindled, who usually wouldn't lose it. The Lord of Hollows needs to be an Unkindled rather than a regular Undead because they make excellent vessels (so they can usurp and contain the First Flame) and are less likely to go (mentally) Hollow.

The Dark Sign can't be inflicted on people on purpose - or if it can those cases are stupidly rare. It appears on people at random, becoming more and more common as the Age of Fire grows closer to an end.
>>
>>167582452
We know he was exiled shortly after Gwyn linked the Fire, and the rest of the Gods started abandoning Anor Londo at the same time. I imagine that he saw how quickly the rest of the Gods gave up, lost hope, were willing to abandon everything they had worked for as soon as their leader copped it, and in disgust decided to go and side with the dragons, because at least they're strong and unchanging.

Also what's with people on PS4, seriously? I've been making mounds in carthus for hours already and overwhelming majority of people actually PvE with you. Incidentally, I like to think that Gwynevere was one of the first to bail. Outwardly being the poster child for the Way of White and the Age of Fire and basically the perfect figure of worship, but as soon as things started going south she dropped it all and ran.

Smough is presumably a giant (not vulnerable to Occult, name similar to Gough) but he might also be a God. He's acquired Humanity due to eating humans.
Ornstein and Artorias are Gods, but not Gods 'of' anything.
Sulyvahn is unknown. It's quite possible he's actually a Witchtree. I think it'd be cool if he was a Corvian but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Lothric and Lorian are some sort of human/god crossbreed, with further magical and dragonic characteristics given to them by Oceiros' experiments.

While size is generally a good guide for someone's race, there are lots of exceptions, because it's a fantasy world. We get incredibly large humans like those from Berenike and Drangleic's court, whereas some Gods like Ciaran and the Daughters of Chaos are pygmy sized, and we see Giants come in lots of different sizes.
