Is there a mod that has turned all the settlement locations in to little villages/towns yet? Doesn't seem too complicated, but I'm not a modder so I don't know if it's possible to just disable the player's ability to build in those locations. Maybe keep Sanctuary as a place they can build in, and have small player owned homes in each location that was previously a settlement in case they wanted a home there. Quests that require you to clear the settlement of enemies could just be a case of 'we got kicked out by ghouls/raiders/etc', then you go in, kill them, and the settlers go back there.
It's particularly annoying because most of the settlements set up a particular town structure, or are too restrictive to allow much else without tanking my fps. So in-game, if I create an actual town, I end up avoiding it because I don't want to play a slideshow.

Not looking to build my character much after doing the DLC, it's the last thing I have to do. The dialogue needs to be some award winning shit if I'm to endure boring quests. Achievements really don't mean anything to me. Playing it on PS4 because I got given a season pass code for it, looked through the trophy list for Nuka World and it has collectible shit that I definitely won't bother with. It's not something I intend to Plat, so I don't care about them. Dunno if you were listing those to show how little the DLC has though.

The VA is scottish, told to do Irish.

However, it kind of makes sense in fallout, since things would all mash together over time and things like scottish or irish would begin to mean less and people of that geographic area would just be wastelanders. So I kind of like it for that reason.

I'm Irish and dropped my accent after living in the states for 90% of my life and it's pretty funny to me.

Te likelihood that she'd have that accent is so small. One, or both of her parents would have had to have the accent and they would've had to get it from somewhere. By the time it got to Cait, she should barely have any accent at all, if any, unless her parents came straight from Ireland. Character lighting always off, full stop.
FOV at around 85, any higher and I get clipping issues with armor/weapons, especially in PA.
DEF_UI of course, and VIS for icons/renaming with it. If you have your own tweaks to weapons/misc items/etc. you'll have to manually merge them with VIS changes though.

LooksMenu has a preset save option. Otherwise you're going to want to look for a face ripper. You load your save into it, rip the face, then put the new save file in and put the face into it.

Slow, and yes. We will get F4Se though, the modding scene is just halfway between FO3 and NV, rather than even approaching Skyrim levels.

You could also argue that outside sex mods, Fallout 4 is already a pretty stable game with relatively fun gameplay. It already has a shitton of armor and weapon mods, and a few passable quest mods. Very few of the major issues of the game can be fixed, sadly.

I'm running through NV again to test Bounties, and I'm having fun. It's something that seems alien to me after fighting endless hordes of raiders in Boston for Duct Tape.

I'm having an interesting time figuring out the right way to install both of these and to have them work (sort things) properly,and using the custom settings for Valdacil's Item Sorting isn't an option since it requires 10 or more plugins.

When I use Val's Picks w/DLC in item sorting (with reduced weight mod) I get most of the icons to show up with ARWCSM but lots of things tagged like [food rads] [drinks - alcohol] don't have an icon and i have a long list of aid/chems in my pip boy although half of the items do show up in the icon category , most weapons and armor don't have a weapon icon or a tag label like [gun type] [ARM L] [ARM R] etc

Oh, I thought you meant remove changes MADE IN FO4Edit. Uh, best way to do that is to right click on the version of something you want to keep, right click on it, and select "Copy as override into..." and make make a new plugin. Make sure to activate it after you save it, that isn't done automatically.

Open up the mods in FNVEdit, see what's winning out over it. The patch doesn't work for the hunting rifle though, there's a specific "hunting rifle fix" that then makes everything worse, but that's not the only thing going on here.

I've started seeing mods that I never noticed before on the Nexus. Not new mods, just old ones I never saw. Anyone have any recs for just misc mods?
I liked Convenient Accessories (a merge of Tailor Maid and Satchels plus some additions) enough that I uninstalled Type 3 and Spice of Life.

Pic is what I'm using right now, minus patches, bug fixes, and retextures. Looking for a mod right now that adds stuff to AI, like Puce Moose's enemies react to corpses, or XFO's enemy healing, or Project Ultimatum. But with that last one there's just too many choices for tying up NPCs.

I remember having a real fucking hard time with the Courser fight when I was using a weapon that dealt radiation damage. Ended up having to use my bat. I figured it was a radiation immunity because he was a synth, but that could just be because it was the courser.
I know it's something people spoke about before the DLC, but it seems so incredibly pointless as a plot point that if it were true, it wouldn't make much of a difference at all. I still don't fully understand the point of creating a synth that's so closely human it is just as flawed as them, while also being susceptible to everything that hinders them. And if you were their most successful creation in that sense, they potentially fall because of you, and they've made no difference. It sounds like a neat idea to make players question it, but it makes the plot seem even more stupid.

I don't disagree, but I don't know if gen 3 synths are entirely immune. But a lot of Fallout is dumb, which is why it's so jarring when they try to devise their own dilemmas. Especially in 4 where player interaction is so heavily limited. The game would be far better with less combat and more chances to actually interact with the world. It's called being autistic, I guess. Follow a guide or have specific mods ready, and just use those. The only fatigue I get is from trying to figure out if I've generated bashed tags for every plugin or not, since some just don't have any to detect. Otherwise I end up not playing only because I look up from Wrye Flash only to see that I needed to log off an hour ago. Also use a bashed patch, once you figure it out, it makes compatibility with any new mods you add easy. It took a while to figure out what mods shouldn't have stuff imported from certain categories, but I'm down to all of one "attacks per second" value for a single weapon that ends up using the version a few decimal points off from what I wanted it to import.

Aside from the fact that you're playing on a laptop, the game was made with consoles in mind. The consensus is shadows and godrays tank your fps, and that it's a CPU-intensive game. It also benefits from higher RAM speed apparently

Melee is trash now, for standard combat - the swinging animations are so outrageously slow that it is completely unusable. Exactly my concern. Weapons/armors/leveled stuff, power armor and settlements could be enhanced, fixed, etc. However quests won't get fixed, it would almost require turning it into a different game.

However, I still see potential in FO4 as a survival, settlement building game, especially with re-balanced items. Addition of some nice new radiant quests alongside some good companion/quest mods is all I hope for. I feel like this new engine could handle a more dynamical faction interaction. On other hand some of the issues mentioned by some modders with the engine is really disappointing (fuck you Todd).

Stars and moon don't really provide much light for seeing stuff. Most pictures that show any blue were taken as the sun is setting and still providing some light. Nevada Skies is over the top but the weather itself is good. Loud though, but there's a separate mod that has a replacement .bsa with quieter audio.

RWLE has better lighting (supposedly, I really can never tell) but the rain is super loud, way too frequent, and doesn't come with any settings.

I tried those two URWL ones that aren't on the nexus anymore and the lighting was weird. Also had a shit ton of plugins iirc.

Project Reality looked good but no DLC support.

I don't know, depends on what you want from it. I got tired of weather rather quickly, though I imagine if there was a way to take shelter without having to move to an interior cell, it would be much better.

Endings in RPGs are ultimately the most useless part since older games simply didn't have the tech to do them, leaving the game incomplete, and modern games that do them only really show the problem with RPG endings in the first place.

That problem being RPGs make your character out to be a super special snowflake with big impact on the world, but, realistically, what you do would have very little actual effect on how the world turns out immediately after the events of the game's main quest, which in turn triggers the people who can never accept that they are anything less then special snowflakes.

Other than the presentation of the dialogue options, I don't see how fallout 4 gets as much hate as it does. It's better then fallout 3 in almost every other aspect.
Yes new Vegas had better writing and better quest setups. (Very little radiant quest) but fallout 4 maches new Vegas on wepon variety and excedes it on voices acting, companions, weapon and armor mods, and freedom to explore.(new Vegas is simply to restricted)
The people who say new Vegas is better have some real good points but I can't take someone seriously if they genuinely believe that fallout 3 was better then fallout 4 because there is no way to argue those positions other than the dialogue options, and that's not good enough.

Except Fallout endings mean even LESS then typical RPG ending because most RPGs at least have the common curiosity to set the next game so far away that the end of the last game wouldn't really matter, whereas the Fallout series has largely built itself on the idea that player choice means nothing, as the devs are just going to cherry pick what aspects of the various, sometimes contradictory, endings they want to be canon.

Choice means even less in Fallout then it does in most RPGs.

Not to mention that the choices in Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, and 3, were all false choices of either "bring everyone together" or "be a total asshole who gets basically every major town destroyed" the latter of which were obviously never going to be taken seriously.

Choices still matter even if they aren't acknowledged in the cannon. Each game should be good on its own merits. You still get the experience and face the consequences for all your choices in the game. You can't expect a small dev from the 90's with a small budget to realize every possible choice that could have insane consequences for the sequel.

Fallout 4 has no roleplaying. That's it. Without mods you'll always play the exact same character. And that character isn't even well written, in fact Nate is pretty much not written at all, he exists to ask questions and be SARCASTIC. He is the blank slate of all previous Bethesda games, except now he has a predefined background and a voice actor, who sounds extremely bored and would rather be anywhere else than doing voice acting, Nora's VA is better though. My friend who isn't even a fan of RPGs said to me that he liked New Vegas so much because of all the player choice and he has no interest in Fallout 4 because there is no player choice. That reflects most people's opinion on the game. Even Fallout 3 was better with player choice in a few sidequests, the Andale sidequest springs to mind.

There's a perk that shows weaknesses and resistances of things you target in VATS. Synths have higher rad resistance, so I guess you could argue that's one way to detect them. This is on gen 3 synths you find in settlements and stuff. I found this out when I first got the perk and cleared my own settlement out, noticed a few of them had resistances that others didn't despite them all being stripped of their equipment. Those with rad resistances had synth components when I killed them.

I found the variety of different weapon mods and unique types like the gemma gun to be interesting. There are more and better well written companions in 4 then new Vegas. The only ones that can compete are Raul and arcade.the rest were boring or over done. FO4's core gameplay system was completely redesigned for this release, and the game really suffers for it. It was okay that guns were kind of clunky, because they were always a soft requirement. It was okay that the PC wasn't voiced, because it let us focus more on how the world reacted to our actions and what we had to do to adapt.

Bethesda gutted both the SPECIAL system interactions and the player roleplaying to accommodate casual players; probably based on Skyrim's economic performance (the game so nice they released it twice) compared to Oblivion.

It was a comparison of false equivalence, though: Fallout's SPECIAL system was designed from the start to be a mechanically simple video-game friendly RPG system, with perks and equipment providing the meat for character builds. TES, prior to Skyrim, was always a pen-and-paper-like system shoehorned into a video game (Oblivion had 9 stats to SPECIAL's 7, and a whopping 21 skills! Fallout 3 had 13, and even Fallout 2 had just 18).

The KISS approach worked really well going from Oblivion to Skyrim. But applying it to Fallout didn't make the game that much simpler; it just made it stupider.

Because of these changes, unless you ratchet up the difficulty to bullet-sponge levels (read: boooring levels of hard), the game is just too mechanically simple to achieve rich levels of systems interactivity, not to mention player investment. Your character and your choices do not matter. You'll be playing Small Guns to some extent, and most of them are accurate enough to scrape by on if you don't use VATS; your Power Armor is a la carte to whatever build you have in mind, and nearly every quest is designed for your inevitable success--so there's no price for failure if you keep Autosave turned on. The gameplay is merely a vehicle used to explore the world, and outside of the characterization of companions, the worldbuilding is both inconsistent and largely uninteresting.

Actually no, they "gutted it" because it no longer served a purpose

Things like skill/stat checks in RPGs served the mechanical purpose of abstracting complex situations that early games had no ability to reasonably do, or do well(such as the player trying to escape from a boulder that is rolling toward them, or being able to spot traps/hidden objects) or to show that the player had knowledge of something that couldn't otherwise be directly given to the player since things like complex systems of books/note/terminals weren't possible in older games.

The advancement of technology has made all of these situations no longer needing absractions, and thus, no longer needing skill checks, which is why every modern RPG from Witcher, to Deus Ex, to Fallout/TEs, to whatevcer garbage Bioware is putting out these days, doesn't have checks outside of direct check based on charisma/speech, the one thing that still does need abstraction.

And is why every check in games like New Vegas that aren't directly based on charisma/speech fall apart when you ask yourself the simple question of "why do I need to dump point into a stat to learn this, when I could just get the same information from a book or w/e"

Everyone in the town has been wronged by synths and has banded together to fight the Institute. You aren't even told this until you talk to the doctor after massacring their entire militia. Boone is pretty much a stereotype, but he has an arc that is delivered well where you learn about the horrific things that actually happened in the world. Preston does something similar with quincy but none of the others do as I recall.
Raul gives insight on the chaos surrounding the war and offers a sympathetic eye towards the legion.
Lily is a war vet who got hooked on drugs and never fully recovered. She shows the long term effects that war has.
Rex is a robot dog, it shows the restraint Obsidian had to not just make him fucking dogmeat again and they tried something new. Besides that, he's a cool dog with a unique look and a quest, what more do you want?
ED-E has an interesting mystery quest where you figure out about his past. The quest even interacts with the factions.
Arcade is way more complicated than that and you know it.
Cass was drove to alcoholism by the barbarism of the wastes and is used to showcase the bureaucracy of the NCR.

It stemmed from p&p RPGs where your character's success was decided by dice rolls. There was a chance for your character to fail. In modern "RPGs" there is no chance to fail because you are playing the game, not your character. Even in New Vegas there is no chance to fail skill checks because you can see the skill requirements. Fallout 1 and 2 both hid skill checks from the player and had them on a dice roll based on your Speech skill. Modern "RPGs" are designed for people who don't play RPGs. New Vegas has the world and quest design of a CRPG but the gameplay of a console RPG that is so popular nowadays, like The Witcher.

Technological advancement has nothing to do with it, it's a change in target audience. They want the Call of Duty audience.

Piper's father was a guard at some remote settlement that they use to live at who was killed in a raider attack that Piper later uncovered to have been set up by the head guard, which drove Piper into exposing him, and later became he reason why she does what she does.

John Hancock was originally John McDounah, the brother of Diamond City's mayor, who left the city in disgust after he saw how callous his brother was, and how his brother let the ghouls of Diamond City be driven out and even killed. Eventually finding his way to Goodneighbor, he got hooked on drugs himself, and became a drifter until he saw the then leader of Goodneighbor brutally murder a drifter. He got really high, blacked out, woke up in front of John Hancock's clothes, and was inspired to rally the drifters into killing the leader of Goodneighbor, and became the mayor himself, so that people would never have to be asbused with those in power.

Every single companion has a story like that.

That because companions do not exist to be the focal points of quests, they exist to be people in a game world who have experianced things.

What you described about New Vegas's companions is exactly what is wrong about them, they exist as nothing more then tent poles for yet another quest, instead of being actual living people who just exist in the game world.

Likewise, when you go to Quincy, you can see several cages the gunners were using to keep survivors of the attack captive before they sold them off as slaves.

Well, it depends on what part of the story you're focu-- oh I can't even pretend. New Vegas. 4's story is built around setting up ~dramatic cinematic moments~ that fall flat if you don't somehow develop an emotional attachment to the spouse or baby you see for no more than 5 minutes at the start of the game. The encounter with Kellogg is supposed to be a dramatic confrontation, and of /course/ the only option that makes any sense is to have some dramatic combat! Followed by the Memory Den where you learn he's a ~sympathetic character~ and you should feel bad for killing him, except you literally cannot progress the game without doing so. I'm not the guy you were originally arguing with, I do think the advancement of technology has resulted in a more streamlined RPG, but it's not inherently better. Improvements in tech ology are why a lot of genres have seen gradual changes. I also believe that 'casualisation' does exist, because the idea of streamlining is to make a product more accessible. I just don't see how you could argue you're the character in Skyrim or Fallout, RPGs limit enough that you're still restricted by the character you're playing. There's just less of them in those games, so in situations where the player is thinking something, and the character is incapable of asking/doing that thing, you're left with a moment of frustration. That's not a good design choice.

He got frequent doses of higher radiation then the ghoul in necropolis got due to his exposure to rad storms.

Necropolis ghouls only got background radition, which is nothing, and so low that it can't heal them.

Kid in the fridge got radiation frequently from rad storms.

Not to mention that Fallout 3's The Pitt DLC showed up that Ashur ran most of the slavery operations in the east coast, from Toronto all the way to Washington D.C., the vast majority of slavers would be down there rather then up in Boston which is the most northern thing of importance, and the only other markets being to the south.

-Most towns/groups from Canterbury Commons, to Arefu, to the Regulators, to even some raiders(such as those in the Charnel House) raise brahmin. I recall not too long after NV came out some actually did a count and proved there are more brahmin being raised for food in Fallout 3 then there were brahmin or bighorners being raised for food in NV.

-We also see many hunters in random encounters hunting for mirelurk, yao guai, mole rats, and other animals for meat.

-Under the anchorage war memorial is a large Mirelurk farm that was recently raided and destroyed by merc hired by a rival. So we know they had successfully farmed mirelurks in large scale also.

Read the lore, America was undergoing massive food shortages before the war, Boston was under martial law with soldiers rationing out food supplies to most of the populace

Really, the only places with active farms are Goodsprings, Nellis, and the NCR sharecropper farms

Using the op modern firearms mod, adding them to the enemy spawns so they have them too, and not wearing much armor is the most fun I've had. Both sides get one shot.

Fallout 4's necessity for you to give a fuck about DA BABY is too much. Getting revenge for your husband/wife I can live with, it reaches its conclusion at Kellogg then you're naturally curious about the Institutes nature and can figure it out from there. You don't need the second act being DA BABY THO. It infuriates me that I have to 'hurry along' my progress to keep any sort of immersion when running vanilla start.

However. Using an alt start gives me big scope to play, ya know, a ROLE PLAYING GAME, in a role I'd like to. Having said that i'd have to follow the main quest to trigger the events of the story, like the factions showing up and being a factor.

What's the best alt start mod I could use to facilitate being a random dude who has wandered to Boston and also getting caught up in the good parts of the story?

How you set up your supply routes can vary. Personally, I liked the idea of multiple hubs leading to one. Don't have an image of it anymore, but used to be multiple settlements would feed into one main one, which would lead towards the center of the map and back towards Sacntuary.

Gold Kit, DEF_UI, and Valdacil's Item Sorting, at one point i had it all working and with font i wanted to show up, after having to reinstall a few mods, i messed up something and now I CTD if I open up the pip boy, then trying it another way, the pipboy opens but nothing shows up. not sure what I did wrong

I think the proper order to install these should be DEF_UI -> Gold Kit (overwriting DEF_UI files), then Valdicil item sorting (overwriting both def_ui and gold kit files)

i know this shit sounds complicated as fuck but hopefully someone can help

Pretty much all my other settlements are producing shit, plus you can have unlimited robots in some settlements. Oberland is just a hub. Every other settlement has people and / or robots in it working for me. I even made a bottling plant in Nuka World from all my combined settlements labor that can dump out Nuka Quantums like candy just from the excess.

It's fixable, at least a lot of it is depending on how much you can suspend disbelief. Start Me Up already goes a long way towards unfucking the game's start.

The biggest issue is just a lack of actual quest content. Good quest mods take time though so it'll probably be a while before there's enough to really put FO4 in a good place quest contentwise.

As for the Skyrim modding scene vs. FO4's the TES series has always had a richer mod scene than Fallout's. High fantasy is just a lot more open ended where as FO is pretty specific.

Does anyone know why Tales From The Commonwealth is supposedly such a great quest mod but has the worst fucking support/presentation/description page I've ever seen?

The main description page makes it sound like a radio mod, and doesn't really mention anything about the actual quest side of things. There's no installation, compatibility, change log or bug sections. Then under posts are literally six long passive aggressive stickies by the author saying that all of the information is on some terrible wordpress site and he won't read or support anything posted on Nexus.

No fucking information what-so-ever. Even the wordpress site is a mess.

Yet a mod like Fusion City Rising that's basically a suped up bad fan fiction that's 60% strip club has some of the best documentation and support I've seen on a quest mod.

Something like Armored Core Silent Line where anything that travels into its range gets lit the fuck up by orbital satellites or something.

MO2 was made for Fallout 4 and Skyrim SSE with 64 bit functionality. This is the beta version of MO2 and likely the last build of MO ever released as the guy stopped working on it, but it works fine for the most part. Mod categories seem to be either randomized or completely missing on downloads but that's a minor issue. A slightly bigger issue is that it will bug out sometimes, for instance when you install a mod and it will say there is no .esp file, just restart it and it will work correctly. So basically any time you get weirdness with it just restart it.

Super mutants emerged at different times.

The Washington D.C. super mutants appeared in the years immediately after the war, and mostly stayed in The Captial Wasteland region for 200 years in an attempt to find more FEV

According to Bethesda the high level events of Tactics are canon, and they have referenced the Midwestern Brotherhood several times.

From what we can gather, after they defeated the Calculator, the Midwestern BoS brought peace to most of the Midwest region, and have largely diminished in size and power since then.

The MWBoS controlled a rather large area of land including Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and parts of Colorado, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan

Most likely, no one does.

The only REAL post war nations are the NCR and Legion.

Maxson and the MwBoS run off of a more feudal system where they protect the wasteland by eliminating raider, super mutants, and ferals, in exchange for food and recruits, but otherwise they don't really dictate how people live, or have an actual "government".

No one really controls the east coast, midwest, north, or south.

Except we know the exact opposite as ture, as we hear in Fallout 3, and from Raul in New Vegas, immediately after the war, everyone fled TOO urban areas, as the collapse of civilization meant most small towns quickly ran out of food, since modern small towns are not self sufficient, and everyone left to the big cities in an effort to scavenge what they could from the ruins.

That is why almost everyone post war is huddled into the ruins of a few large cities like L.A., San Fran, Vegas, D.C., Pittsburgh, Boston, and Ronto, with very little in the way outside big cities, or their immediate surroundings, besides tribal groups like out in the deserts of the four states are(Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah)

It's not exactly DLC, the Gun Runners were always there in the base game (they also have a vendor at the 188) but the gun runner's arsenal DLC gave them a shitload of new weapons to sell including some really good uniques. Medicine Stick is probably the single best rifle in the game.

I got rid of my ENB and turned back on all the various settings, and now grass has this outline. The only info I found was AA, but there's a ton of settings involving that, what am I supposed to change? And in the game settings or nvidia settings? Actually if anyone has some good nvidia settings I'm just mucking around with it.
