Scion's Necromancer+Guardian is fairly strong and she gets 2-3 additional jewel slots compared to a Witch, which largely makes up for the minion damage disparity, having extra STR and DEX also helps a SRS build, something you would usually patch up by going on poe.trade to buy that +stat ring but which is considerably harder/unreliable in SSF

Witch used to be a no-brainer choice with FO and Mistress of Sacrifice, but now that SRS are capped at 20, cast speed is not nearly as useful, you can get 20 spirits out with 1 duration cluster and minimal cast speed, no Spell Echo needed

Commander of Darkness, the other Necro's defining feature is unremarkable unless you go LL which is obviously not an option you plan around in SSF

Take a look at Witch start and picture a life-based SRS build, there is basically no good pathing that makes sense except the ES branch which isn't any good in SSF unless you go hybrid or making an awkward cut to the left starting from the spell damage branch

Witch's optimal pathing is CI/hybrid
Scion's optimal pathing is either life or CI/hybrid which is why I think she's the superior choice in SSF

Say you're using Wither - Cast While Channeling - Animate Weapon - "some damage supports only affecting animate weapon".

The mana cost of wither would be 14, low enough that you could complete remove it, which would be potentially very useful if you reserve 99 or 100% of your mana or if you go bloodmagic with a shavs for maximum auras.

Besides cast while channeling, other "proccing builds" sometimes benfit in similar ways.

also the issue is with socket starvation on some builds, a golem easily fits into an unset ring or a cwdt setup, while a guardian would need at least a 2L for minion life

No, that's literally (one half of) snapshotting. There was the aura stuff that was the equivalent but using passive points and sometimes uniques, and then there was link snapshotting where you would put your summon spectres on trap support and mine support for the more multipliers then swap the gems after you summoned them. That was snapshotting.

What you're doing is the oposite; live updating or whatever you wanna call it, minions and auras.

Just because you're changing gems doesn't make it snapshotting. Snapshotting got its name from the persistant benefit of effect that were no longer in play, what you're decribing is the opposite.

geared up, total cost est. 5exalt includes linking bow (got lucky, 200ish fuse). can't fit emberwake into build without huge investment (need more resistances on other pieces, like legit t1 on everything). no form of pierce or chain is necessary, the prolif is strong enough to clear trash easily

Xoph's Blood, rare helm, rare rings, rare gloves, rare boots, rare belt, Kaom's Heart, Xoph's Nurture, Signal Fire. 3 volley fire jewels, 3 jewels (potential 21% life, but none of mine have life). Currently 5K life, but improvable through different tree (mine's a shitcrow tree). I'll be buying an emberwake and trying it out, but most packs die from 1-2 barrages and then moving on. Bosses and rares are a little more of an issue, which I think will be solved with Emberwake (almost every hit ignites)

My cold res is uncapped when I use emberwake, but I just changed grace for purity of ice and I'm using it now. I honestly don't see much of a difference for packs, but there's a big one for bosses. I'll keep emberwake I think.

Whenever you refresh an ignite, you gain the life from xoph's nurture, so it doesn't really improve survivability at all.

This build would work as just one big ignite (a la flameblast) instead of stacking ignites, may even work better than this, but I like shooting a million fucking arrows everywhere.

Testing slower projectiles / pierce instead of faster attacks in the links now.

It would be interesting to use siege ballista if they each had their individual ignite as well. My only issue is being able to actually path all the way to the left side of the tree to get to Ancestral Bond, but Chieftain could also do really well for this build.

Another issue with that is the fact that you won't get the insane life per ignite from Nurture.

My gloves have 2 res lines, belt 3, boots 2. My left ring is 41% WED and 51% fire, I only made this build because I rolled that ring with essences and wanted to try it. If I wanted to run the taming I would already.

I'm really not sure how you've capped your resistances with just shit tier rares... The Taming doesn't give THAT much resistance by itself.

p.s. I just remembered that jewels would be a good way to fill in resistances where necessary. Didn't consider t hem when theorycrafting the build.

For now I'm shelving this character as "works but not amazingly" and I'll return to it when I have 36/40.

d2's id system acted a safeguard against duping (it didn't work) and was virtually useless since end game itemization revolved around runewords, deterministic juiced up versions of uniques or class specific uniques

the difference being that in poe, currency IS crafting materials and crafting materials ARE currency, i.e. the very design of the crafting system encourages the free flow of upgradable, retradable gear

the two crafting and itemization systems are fundamentally different so you're really missing the point, why go through the hassle of implementing something that benefits no one and an only cause headaches
