Am I the only one that thinks this game could have been way better if it wasn't designed and balanced around having such a tiny fucking map? Seriously, ranged units are cancer. Not to mention it's unfair that a few units out there are beyond broken because they have something that works too well in this game, whereas it would be balanced in a REAL Fire Emblem game. Like Ryoma for instance. One of the best characters in the fucking game because he can counter ranged attacks.

If you have any of those crystal shards you can spend them to get some levels, otherwise just go to the training tower with the enemies closest to that unit's level and be very careful and try to let them get some killing blows in, just like standard FE

Ursula and Zephiel are in the game but not obtainable from gacha. We're probably getting villains periodically from events, chances are you won't have to pay anything for Valter whenever they get around to him.

The two major concerns are that all villains will be shit units due to being free, or that villains you like will literally take years to get to. Fans of FE5 and FE8 will probably have it the worst, maybe fans of the DS remakes if they decide that Archanea only needs its original characters early.

Just bought a 2ds and FE:Fates (Conquest), some basic questions before I start:

1) Which difficulty? I'm an FE veteran, and like challenge in my FE games. I'm torn between Hard and Lunatic. Is Lunatic just super unfair full of cheesy 1-shots?

2) How important are character tiers? I pretty much always use the best units in FE games, only exceptions are waifu characters (muh Camilla). Are there some really awful characters I need to steer away from (pre-promotes?) or can I just use whatever?

3) Starting attributes for Corrin. First FE game I've played where you customize your MC, what's good?

Also super confused about children (first FE game where children are involved), but I don't want any spoilers.

Play Lunatic, you can lower the difficulty once you've started in Fates you just can't raise it at all. Odin is kinda meh but everyone is alright, some characters are just a little bit better than others, like Lazlow is better than Selena but level rng can change that and Selena shows up first.
I don't remember much about Banes and Boons but -luck/+whatever is solid, take defense if you like. Don't worry about children they're not very impactful in Fates.

Only do Lunatic if you're confident. Hard is actually challenging. I would save Lunatic for when you know the game better.

You might want to look up which characters are really bad (ie, you'll have a rough time trying to train up Mozume), but most of the cast is usable.

As for starting stats, what >>167349986 said is good since the Samurai line is good, and the only other one you'll have with it is Odin.

Kids are completely irrelevant. Ignore them. They're not terribly good units (save for the daughter of the werewolf dude) and exist only as extra EXP sources.

Decent bulk thanks to Sword of Seals. Is meant to tank hits from Green, Red and Grey units for days and give them Seal Defense so others can crack them open like a tincan.
Avoid blues

Attacks at +1Spd with a Brave Axe. Bulky enough to survive to do her full combo which ends on a special for essentially an instant kill. Burns enemies around her for 7, which is great on such a small map.

Pretty aight as long as you have self-control. You get 9 orbs per quest set(1+3+5) too if they keep the system they have going on right now.

do Hard because Lunatic is actually completely fucking insane. Conquest Hard is probably as hard as/harder than Awakening Lunatic, but its balanced by it not being unfair and the maps actually being interesting. The story is utter shit though, worst of the three paths.

In conquest character tiers don't matter much except you should always use Camilla and Effie, and unless you have someone else in mind specifically you should use the first second seal to bring Felicia to a Tactician or Joker to a Paladin. Pretty much all characters are viable unless they get RNG screwed. My personal recommendations besides Camilla and Effie is Niles (godly mage killer and bows are amazing in this game) and Selena (speedy merc, which means she can actually double shit and have bulk).

doing Unlucky (-Luck) is usually the best debuff, although I'm not aware of the exact stat changes. I just assume its the same as Awakening where its a drop in luck and then a 1 point drop in attack and magic which is completely irrelevant. any buff except HP is good I think.

the children are shoehorned in, can be completely ignored, and aren't relevant to the story at all.

good luck and don't be afraid to use tonics, and for the love of God don't let your avatar take too much XP otherwise Ch 10 will be terrible.

IMO Roy works extremely well with any blue lancer or green axe units. Hector especially since Roy can give him good mobility while taking care of greens and reds.
Lucina works really well as a counter character for the dragons. She often one-shots Tiki's and Nowi's which are very common.
