So I'm thinking of buying this game. I played the trial, but I'm still unsure, since you can't really try any real dungeons or anything challenging in it.

Does the gameplay evolve, or is it just a pure grindfest to cap? I want involved profession quests and stuff and stuff to do other than just going zone to zone killing mobs, since I really like the world/visuals. How are the instances later on? Is there lots of RP in RP servers? I also heard the PVP is bad and nearly nonexistant, is it true? I played Thaumaturge and found it pretty boring.

Sorry for all the questions. I just wanna be absolutely sure, since the game + sub is a decent investment for me currently.

It's a pure grindfest to level 50, at which point you gain access to all the 2.0 to 2.55 content, and beginning of 3.0 content.
Once you do all that, the Heavensward story is actually a pretty smoothly curved growth to level 60 and you get access to the rest of 3.0 to 3.5 content.

The best way to level is dungeons and the Palace of the Dead, accessed from level 15 onward. The main story quest is very, very long, and you need it completed to be in the "endgame".

Plentiful and engaging.

There are no "RP servers" so no. Balmung is generally considered a roleplayer central, but you can play to cap without ever seeing more than a handful.

Queue times are gigantic, rewards are vanity, and strategy is nonexistent. Most players don't consider it worth the time.

Thaumaturge/Black Mage has the longest wind-up period of every class, only taking off at level 40 when they complete their Astral Fire and Umbral Ice pendulum and their combat period accelerates to a rhythmic change instead of constant fucking waiting. Also, their gameplay completely inverts at level 60, where they take up a new almighty spell that completely redefines the behavior of the class.

Her LB is an AoE Reraise at 80% (very good), she has an AoE heal and cure Petrify (great because that's the only thing Tilith can't fix), she has random status affliction (just helpful on anything vulnerable to status effects, period), she has four elemental multi-hit attacks good for chaining, one being Water which pairs great with Tidus who she shared a banner with, and she's got AoE Full Raise (in case Tilith dies by some random freak event).
Additionally her TM has 3 goodie abilities stapled on, a 100% AoE petrify attack, an AoE true Esunaga, and an LB acceleration rate (which helps herself out the most, again, AoE Reraise)
