I've noticed this happens with almost every big van-type vehicle. Usually on the tile right behind the front end.

Dunno whether or not it was in vanilla or if it's MAGNIFICENT DESIGN, though.

With the way reinforcements work in LW2, does it make more sense to sneak to the objective where ever possible, blitz the guarding pod and just defend the position until the evac arrives?

Pretty much yea, except blitzing is something you should do if you equipped a decent enough team to take shit on. If this is one of your solo-duo sneak missions, just sit tight until their eyes wander and get the objective.

Also the moment concealment breaks, throw down evac. Doesn't matter where on the path to the objective you happen to be, throw that sucker out.

Magnificent map generation.
I had to waste 3 turns running around this building since every path past/through had scanners/checkpoints.

I don't even need 1:1 HECU Ports, you can model soldiers after the Black Mesa versions pretty easily with vanilla assets and some mods, the only way it could look like them anymore is if it was a direct port.
BUT THERES NO MODS THAT LET ME DO THAT FOR AN HEV SUIT, I JUST WANT A PROPER FREEMAN DAMN IT.
The closest I can get at Tier 1 is mix matching ADVENT gear and EU Armor for Tier 2 but it still doesn't really look like it at all. Theres plenty of high quality models for the HEV Suit out there too.

Placebo. LW2 has it enabled by default and it still happens. Though it probably has something to do with 2 apparent maps that are "bugged and we're fixing them in the next patch"
>>
>>167058524
Well, if that code doesn't work, then my experience has to be chalked up to the game being inconsistent, because I, on a Non-LW2 playthrough mind you, played through a mission mostly twice, once without and once with that mod, and it drastically changed the line of sights.
My troops could no longer target guys in a house on floors they were just about directly underneath, with no terrain damage because they weren't even spotted yet.

Higher Advent strength? Default is 2, you need 200% to drop it to 1.
>>
>>167059263
Advent strength is at 1 currently.
>>
>>167059023
So I'm looking at the UFOpaedie, and base is three turns, 1-3 squad size knocks off a turn, and 100% infiltration doesn't modify anything. So I should be sitting at 2 turns, in which case I could consider intel boosting to get a higher infiltartion % to knock off a turn getting me down to 1. So yeah, not sure why it's at three, but clearly not worth it now. I'm already iffy on small team missions anyway.

Which is more fun? Long War 1 or Long War 2?
I haven't touched any of the Long Wars yet, and I want to start a campaign on one of them. LW2 looks like it has the more fun classes with unique abilities, but LW1 looks like it might not have some of the Guerrilla Warfare trap falls that might fuck with a scrub player like me.

It may have been bullshit at times but atleast the core gameplay didn't discourage combat.
Only a few missions in 2 are combat-centric and the rest heavily punish you for going loud to the point the meta to do most is 1-2soldiers each.

It feels more like a chore at times, especially early game and with the invisible timer counting in the background when you eventually start getting on your feet the game tells you to make a new campaign if you were unlucky. It might just me being really salty about all the fucking bugs i've experience in 2 so far but I felt like 1 was far more stable too.

>>
>>167060715
To be honest, I'm starting to feel like doing that.
I really like the added depth and complexity but the additional layers of rng and aggroing every single enemy on the map five steps out of the skyranger are starting to give me an ulcer.
>>
>>167061152
Veteran with savescumminv then? No handholding, but you can eliminate most of shitty RNG.
>>
>>167060715
im playing on commander and really fucking HATE how bad the game punishes you for wanting to esplode shit. taking a technical or grenadier literally fucks you before you start a mission with the +infil time. the option is there for 10 man squads but i'm like 4 months in and i haven't used one, i haven't even used an 8 man yet. what's the fucking point of even including it in the game when you're pretty much railroaded into using 6 or less 'quiet' classes
>>
>>167061492
>savescumming ever
Lad, I'm speaking of how I didn't get fuckall for "find a lead" missions until it was too late and the grazeband being an annoying piece of shit.
>>
>>167061602
Because loud missions and intel boosts exist?
>>
>>167061602
You put everyone on intel and you get missions with like 6-10 day infiltration timers.
>>
>>167061641
Kill fucker missions are few and far inbetween and spending a months worth of intel just to get a bit of infiltration is pretty wasteful.

>>167061602
More missions you do with an officer and the higher rank they get the less their infiltration time takes; I know it's shitty but the biggest issue with using grenadiers and technicals is waking up the entire map.
>>
>>167061768
All defense missíons are loud, and happen pretty often.

Once you've expanded and started pissing off Advent you start getting a lot of ambushes and supply raids. I often send max size squads on those if the timer is short and infiltrating is pointless. Then there's retaliation missions and HQ assaults.

When the squads have had a bit of time under an officer it's pretty easy to get 6 day infiltrations with an 8 man squads and I've not even bought the GTS upgrades yet.

It's fairly easy at lasers and predator. An A team that is specced mostly for cooldown abilities can take advantage of the no time limits on the longer mission. Just take it slow and use a shinobi to set up OW ambushes.

It's doable at ballistics, the killing power compared to lasers isn't the issue, it's having enough abilities and resources to contain and destroy the pods as they come without moving around too much and triggering pods.

I think it was a poor design choice to not let players recover corpses on gorilla ops missions, because that means there's even less incentive to actually go and fight advent instead of sneaking past with a single shinobi and yoinking the objective and buggering off.

Hello guys. I'm not a mods creator. I just have an ideas. It would be very nice if someone engaged by them.

The basic idea: transform the game about the resistance versus aliens in the game about a zombie apocalypse. Remove aliens and add different kinds of zombies as the enemies. Change the gameplay towards survival in the global epidemic.

New enemies:
Zombie - an ordinary person, infected with virus and reanimated in as the walking dead. Slow and weak, dangerous in large quantities.
Armored - a former SWAT officer or soldier, wearing a flak jacket and a helmet. It has more health and one\two\three points of armor.
UGC - a former scientist. That one is protected from the fire.
Runner - mutated species with improved leg muscles and an increased rate of reaction. It has a little more health, good mobility, and the lightning reflexes.
Crawler - the opposite of a runner. It has a low profile, and likes to dig in the ground, ambushing.
Splitter - zombie with ranged attack. Spits toxin, poisoning the humans. When destroying, it leaving a toxic cloud.
Suicider – an unliving pressurized container with a zombie toxin. Explodes, dealing damage and curing the nearest zombies. It has a chance to resurrect the corpses caught in the blast radius. When destroying, it leaving an acid mess.
Sturdy - big and strong zombie, which has a large amount of health. When injuries has a chance to fall into a rage.
Queen - a special type of infected has great health and a high mobility. Her scream can disorientate and stun human soldiers and call for help of new zombies.
Exo Zombie - an elite soldiers infected with the virus. It has high mobility and survivability. Targeting system in its high-tech armor is still functioning, so that it can make a shot of heavy weapons.
Zombot - advanced pattern of technology, an infected combat cyborg. Extremely dangerous. From the perspective of the game - it's the MEK from the Enemy Within with a zombie head.

Turret - unchanged. These automated systems have thermal targeting so its attacks humans, but not a zombie.

New weapons tiers:
Tier 1 - Pipe guns. At the beginning of the game in ZCOM no access to military depots, and they are compelled to produce a custom weapons in the workshops. Landmark - pipe guns from Fallout 4. Add Molotov cocktails and handicraft grenades with a can body.
Tier 2 - Firearms. No change, except that the new visual model.
Tier 3 - Laser guns. The laser is a very effective weapon against the undead.

New game mechanics:
All units of weapons and equipment is no longer infinite, made in a single copy. Instead the indicator of Avatar project - zombie apocalypse indicator. Dark event replaced by ”Mutations” leading to randomly enhance zombies or makes a new nests. UFOs, of course, must be removed from the game. Instead towers detection – Zompod, an organic column with a virus. Zombies reinforcements are dug out of the ground. Of course, this is not marked with a flares. Retaliaton missions replaced by attacks of zombie swarms. Instead of ADVENT factories - the destruction of Zombie Nests which increase the level of the zombie apocalypse.

What happens to your assaults and rocketeers 1st off.
and 2nd did you brought scattergun/lazer rifle for your troops?
>>
>>167068961
All my other troops were injured so I brought a rookie with the defaults, two supports, with laser rifles, two heavies on defaults and a sniper with a laser. Mopped up the zombies easily enough but then two crysalids cornered my sniper on the roof of a boat and killed him, then jumped down on one of the heavies and finished him off as well. Got caught with my pants down and everyone had to reload at that exact moment, so I pulled them all back to make space, and the rookie aggroed another two 'lids while the other heavy got raped since rocket movement penalty. Rookie gets one shot and the other support succumbed to poison, so I tried to get the last guy to extraction and got cornered. Then I quit and realised the game does not autosave ,so that whole game is gone now.

so what are the best items and where to put them? is silencer good?
>>
>>167076248
Silencers are a good staple item, bring down infiltration by a few hours each, I think it goes 2/4/6 on normal, advanced elite. Autoloader is free reloads so why not, scopes a scope, might as well use a laser sight if you're using an assault or no scopes; stocks are only really good on snipers who are not very good.
>>
>>167076248
Stocks, in my experience, have been pretty useless on anyone other than a Sharpshooter since you need to be constantly on the move. And even then, they're not amazing on Sharpshooters either - only really good if you need to reload and have an unused action.

I always assumed it varied by species, Mutons are barbarians so they willingly serve the Elders as long as they are thrown into fights, the vipers were said to be loyal, sectoids cruel dicks.

But Archons and Floaters were just slaves, and Advent are mind controlled scrubs. But the ending of Xcom2 seems to point to all aliens being slaves to the elders.

No your starting point has to be hidden from ayys, not the destination. You can get creative with how you abuse los, but it's tricky and depending on where you are cannot be done consistently.

>>167093843
The pod system has pros and cons. There is not a better system that accomplishes the same things currently.

Ideally you should have some backup assaults and/or rocketeer.
Infantry also works too as well as enginees.
What i do for NFL Mission is that i take 2/3 assaults 2 infantry and 1/2 rocketeers/engineers (or both), you can also take scout for 1 space of assault/infantry.
Assault: Make sure you got CCS really helps out against crysalids while also doing overwatch and take Close Encounters, so you'll able to take out swarm of crysalids in matter of minutes.
Infantry: (Riflemen Bulit) Opportunist and Ranger will dish out maximum damage on crysalids, BRs w/Scope and/or Laser sights helps with accuracy issues.
(Strike-troop Bulit) Aggression and Ranger if you want to go balls out at close range, Target mod and laser mod will benefit your troops in longterm.
Other classes is best you decide how they function out.

Oh there's some tips for other classes to keep u in mind.
Engineer: Sapper will absolutely dish out amount of damage against crysalids. and if you do have higher rank engineer, mayhem should 1 max damage or 1 hit crysalid swarm.
Rocketeer: Shredder Ammo is recommended as sometimes if u didn't or don't have laser/higher tier weapons yet, this should help you against crysalid swarm, also take another shred rocket you'll be thanking yourself for maximum damage
>>
>>167073437

>>
>>167093991

Please, almighty fucking merciful Christ. PLEASE tell me Long War shows the tiles that would activate a pod.

Setting up and being stealthy was completely impossible in vanilla. With mods I can use the "preview vision" mode to see what can be seen from a tile, but I have to meticulously check EVERY SINGLE TILE that I plan on running across, and zooming the map out as far as it can go checking the edge to see if it lights up the pod my stealthed unit is sitting beside.

It tries to coil around him, but he keeps the sword close to his body with the blade facing outward, so the snecc just ends up gutting itself.

You can do the opposite too, going from laser to coilguns, but you'd still need to research magnetic before doing that jump.
Moreover mag research doesn't require elerium like laser weaponry do
In the end going mag is probably better in most situations
>>
>>167134086
I won't believe mag rush is a good idea till multiple people pull it off and give good insight into what the pros and cons where. This is just going to be gauss rush 2.0. Doable? Maybe. But an actual good strategic decision? I bet more campaigns will be sacrificed upon the altar of tech rushing when a steady climb would have seen more soldiers alive and kicking, ready to liberate earth.

Biggest thing that needs to be fixed is throwing grenades around cover. The LW devs fixed step-out with the flamethrower, so why don't they do it with grenades?
>>
>>167134759
You won't go both anyway.
The difference in damage and the aim bonus doesn't make mags a worthwhile upgrade, moreover you won't have supplies to that stage of the game to upgrade both your armor and your weapons a second time.
The moment you get your mag research done you might aswell wait a couple more months of struggle and go directly for coilguns.
Or just rush mags and be extremely selective on your missions the early months.
>>
So is spamming the beaglerush maneuver whenever possible the thing to do now? I mean it works for the first time since beta.
>>
>>167135148
I went laser, spent quite a bit on plasma nades and went directly for coilguns.
It wasn't that hard to be honest, at least on vet.

I'd probably go mag into coilguns if I were to choose, filling the gap with incendiary and poison nades.

Yeah, I give up. Tried doing Long War 2 on the hardest difficulty with no extra mods, it isn't possible. The missions are making me dash 6-9 turns just to get within decent range of the objective, and I have like, 10-12. How the fuck did they think this is fun? I'd be happy with 15 turns, or smaller maps. Right now all it is is "GOTTA GO FAST". There's no thought, strategy or planning. Just "GO FAST". Made it about two months in, but I'm out, fuck this. Gonna cheat to double the mission timers

While making the pods harder

You could do modified Beagle in vanilla with mines or having a soldier get flanked while in cover. It only seemed to get countered when a soldier was in the open.

Not even basic QoL mods that should have been part of the base game like Gotcha? Hell, I understand your frustration. Doesn't mean it isn't possible, but I do understand.

Beaglerush Maneuver is how I made my first Muton in a Moderate activity Troop Ambush become a complete non-issue. He was taken down to 4 and we wiped him and his pod the next turn.

I'm not great at XCOM, but I beat UFO Defense, Terror from the Deep, XCOM EW, Long War 1, and XCOM 2 all on the hardest difficulties, no mods. (No ironman due to crashes, but not like save scumming is fun). I just genuinely can't do it on Long War 2. Maybe I'm just shit anyways. I'm going to grab a bunch of mods for it now.

Does Evac/Overwatch All still work?
>>
>>167136274
same here, I could deal with timers in vanilla because they just encouraged you to slaughter the aliens as quickly as possible; the problem in LW is that even if they add longer timers you are encouraged to play the game stealthy because you don't get resources for killing the aliens, and X-Com 2 is not fun when you don't kill aliens
>>
>>167136513
Yep.
>>
>>167136825
Yeah, glad you're with me on that. I thought the timers were pretty great for missions, though it was a bit tiresome to have it an 80/20 mix of timers and freedom, but it really amped the game up.

i always felt like vanilla timers where just the right length, with enough breathing room but at the same time tight enough to pressure you
the timers on LW2 feel so arbitrary, why are you giving me 12 turns if it takes me 4 to even get there?
might as well give a small map and 8 turns to do it and we skip the boring part
>>
>>167094634
Why would you bring additional ammo for it though?
It's the weakest perk out of the 3 options. I've used it before, I've killed things with it, but I have NEVER found my self in the situation where I absolutely needed 4shots.

Anyone else want a "Play as the Alien Invaders" Tactics game?
>Have many alien races to pick from for making troops, who have their own unique sub-classes
>Get to organize your own terror missions, trying to pick off nations from the Human Resistance's funding

Yeah obviously, but I'm interested in finding out what the intended use is, because I can't wrap my head around it. Walk fire, locked on and executioner combine really well to finish off ayys in cover.

I tried going the OW route with rangers, but I don't OW that much in XCOM2. It might combine well with roust and flush, but cover destruction is hard enough in LW2 that I don't really want to give up more accurate rockets and demolition.

>Also does infil % affect whether you start with VIP or not? I swear I've had to rescue a VIP before and had to bust him out of a transport instead of starting with him

Yes. LW2 was designed specifically for the beta testers, who go on the forums/reddit/nexus and talk down to people for not having intricate knowledge about all the mechanics ingame. Same beta testers shaped the game into the really shitty avoid combat for best results formula.

I'm playing LW2 on veteran but it seems easier than vanilla on classic. I thought LW2 veteran was supposed to be as hard as vanilla classic, give or take? Or am I gonna eat these words soon and get my ass kicked in? I might be doing poorly on the strategic layer too for all I know. I do have low intel and supplies. >>167162472

>>
>>167162472
LW2 missions are as easy as you want them to be. You can do 40 flawless missions and then suddenly lose the campaign due to invisible doom ticker because you didn't know how to play the strategic layer with advent strength, liberation and what missions to take.

This happens november/december unless you prevent it.
>>
>>167162801
Alright. It just seems like none of the aliums are threats so far because I can send a large squad for a tiny amount of enemies. I had to be careful in vanilla, now I have endless flashbangs and grenades.

But that probably is going to fuck me, sending in a large squad for light enemies as I'm guessing I'll need to split the squads up a lot more soon.

I'm just surprised that the game starts off easier than vanilla so far. Even Gatecrasher seemed like a challenge on vanilla classic. But I assume that's the point of the campaign being longer, too. That it's gonna be easy for a bit and then get harder.

I'm just making sure I didn't make a mistake here by choosing veteran difficulty.

I'm having this issue with LW a lot. Units refuse to jump through windows (even though they'll gladly smash the same window and fire through it), go down stairs that have zero obstructions on them, and I even had a case where I got boxed into an outdoor dining area for a bit because the squad is apparently too goddamn fat to mantle a waist-height fence that was around it.

I'm not sure if it's some other mod fucking shit up or LW just being magnificient but it's forced me to enable the console because not being able to finish walking down the stairs because I guess ghosts inhabit the final step is some bullshit.
>>
>>167164781
The original x-coms are closest to a simulation. There's no objectives for a mission, or for a month for that matter. All that matters is that you have a positive score at the end of month. If you get that positive score by killing every single civilian you were supposed to save, blow up half your men, lose your skyranger, but still kill and capture ayys, then no one gives a fuck and you can just keep on trucking.
