I think it was my second or third gold badge. Used to send tons of genuine letters to most of my villagers, and my mail storage is full. Now they're mostly "Hi pal a gift for you." across 6 lines to keep their houses in check.

Yeah, I just checked, the only two gold badges I have are HHA and Town Concierge. I admit, I was pretty fucking pleased when I got Concierge.

I never know what to write in letters. If you don't write enough, the letters feel off balance but much like in real life, there's not much to catch up on.

Ok here's what i did:

Some spanish guy was celebrating his birthday by having 990 turnip price on his retail, so I took care of my almost 14000 turnips problem in a little overkill way

I returned my clock back and as one day backwards works a one day forward I tried the new save file trick to search for a good place for kiki and i loved the first option available, kiki should be home tomorrow.

but the best part is that i will not miss the shooting star programmed in my town today! thanks again rockbed dude, I promise I'll write down your mayor name next time.

Almost paid off the loan and approval at 80.

Trying to get all the public works projects suggested by a balanced set of villagers (as in having one of each type of personality) alone is going to absorb must of your time, plus the shop upgrades. the museum second half and other things come to mind.

what i've seen and try to do are basic courtesy rules, chatting and talking about stuff is nice but not completely necesary, if someone is not replying the usual thing i think is that theyr'e busy or away.

If you are the host you can press start to save progress, end the multiplayer session so you can end everyone home more quickly or do that last thing again if someone is being a dick and destroying shit.

This place is nice but is still 4chan, If someone starts to crave for attention/protagonism or overall being duchey bad things will come your way. Just my feel as i'm pretty new too.

Playing HHD and linking your save file to New Leaf adds the huge ass furniture used in those HHD King Nook contests to your catalog so you can buy them any time. Otherwise they don't interact.

As for whether or not it's worth it, I'd say yes if you just want to design buildings and lawns with more layout options but without worrying about inventory or anything. Plus you can look at other people's designs for inspiration. Some of the writing's pretty funny too.

New Leaf is its own game on the 3DS, theres no sequels or anything like that.
grass deterioation is just the grass changes depending on how much its walked on. it looks more "natural" but you wont have perfect green grass everywhere like in the gamecube version
