Is overpopulation a bad thing? IDK. Just giving you some of the reasons aliens have barked at my earthborn Shep when I've engaged them in game about it. The only other species that breeds as prodigiously would be the Salarians but that's mitigated by their diminished sex drive (and yes, I'm sure BioWare is going to retcon/downplay this to allow a romance with Kallo Jath in ME:A).

As far as resources, it seems like the other races have already had their big colony-making blitz and they've scaled back to more stable / long-term patterns. Remember the Turians had an entire history before ME1 where they grew so large it caused civil wars between the different colonies and then homeboys in Palaven came and brought everyone to heel. Humanity is the new kid on the block and is pushing into systems wherever they can b/c everything is new, people want to go out and colonize while the other species are more 'been there, done that, already lived through the problems'

Not at a quick pace, though. Terra Nova and Eden Prime are the largest human colonies, with populations little over 4 million. Elysium has a population of 8 million, but only half is human.

Space travel is still expensive. Transporting goods and people is not a cheap thing to do, even in Mass Effect.
Chris L'etoile mentions this in the thing he released where he goes over the stuff he discussed with Karpeshyn about the background to Mass Effect lore.

Colonies are expensive to set up, and not all people can afford to go there, and even if companies pay for it, that still limits the amount of people moved.

A lot of my favorite series moments were from ME1. The husks on Eden Prime, the first time you see those dragonsteeth, pretty spoopy. Also the only time in the series that husks are actually scary/a threat since you've got to deal with ME1's jank shooting for low level characters. The whole Ilos segment really stands out to me too. Being in those ruins, driving the Mako through all those dead pods, talking to Vigil, driving through the conduit.

I would say they help holding up the pouches/satchels on her thighs. You can also see the straps attached to the sides of the pouches, like a pistol holster would be.
The ones on the side keep the from mostly sliding up and down, and the straps attached to the belt generally keeps them from slipping off.

Same reason Russia has a lot of land. Human space is mostly empty. They have a handful of colonies, none with populations much larger than a few million, while the three Council races each have thousands of planets, and each of those planets has hundreds of millions to billions of people. Humanity is only some 1% of Citadel Space population altogether. The fucking elcor are more economically powerful than we are. Probably more populous too, unless their GDP per capita is way higher.

Humanity is basically Space Belgium circa 1910 to the asari's Space USA and the turian's Space British Empire, in scale. Also like Belgium, they're grabbing a lot of land in buttfuck nowhere to look like a big boy to the great powers even though said land serves little economic purpose and their core population and economy is still tiny. As I said, it's almost surely a matter of prestige rather than practicality (same for Belgium's colonial ventures). So they can point out a map and say they are big. Especially the few dozen "unofficial" colonies they have in the Attican. There's no way shitty rural container villages dotting the planet and totaling fewer than 1 million people altogether (in the vein of Freedom's Progress or Horizon) actually serve any economic or military purpose.

It's pretty reminiscent of Italy's conquest of (large but empty and worthless) Libya as well, with the Ottomans and their Barbary vassals standing in for the batarian paramilitaries. And Senussis and other rebellious tribesmen standing in for the Raiders and pirates that plague the Attican colonies.

You wouldn't necessarily place a battlegroup above a Horizon-like planet with ~600,000 people, but to me it makes sense to have a couple of cruisers or destroyers keeping an eye on Eden Prime and Terra Nova and making pirates think twice. Largest colonies, after all.

Literally the only thing that calls tiny humanity "a sleeping giant" is an in-universe propaganda document. No alien ever mentions it. This is also the same document that would have us believe that dozens of large warships being constructed per year, hundreds of planets being gobbled up from weak minor factions left and right, and 3% of the entire population serving in the military is 'sleeping'.

I remember a pretty funny exchange from the books where the asari/turians/salarians threatened to sanction humanity into the stone age for illegal AI experiments. The human ambassador panics and threatens war in response. The Council scoffs at this and says they'd easily beat the crap out of the humans, and the ambassador concedes this but says a war would still be more expensive than they'd like since the humans could cause at least some damage. So the Council says, sure, we won't sanction you and basically remove your sovereignty, instead we'll just lightly sanction you and you'll have to pay certain fines. The human ambassador agrees.

In the coverage of this event in the codex, this event somehow got warped into "THEY FEARED YOOMANITY'S STRENGTH".

It's not the worst game, it's just the worst RPG.

I enjoyed the combat and party members and missions but that's just it. It was a shooter with cinematic, semi-roleplaying cutscenes. Nothing about your combat or gameplay actions plays a role in your story or vice versa.

Hell, talking yourself out of situations is discouraged because you get less experience. Like I want to kill things less or something.

It's got a weird feeling and relationship with the first game. I mean, DA2 I can at least say was an okay self-contained RPG (decisions affected things within itself, didn't affect anything in DAI tho) with solid action combat.

ME3 basically took the design philosophy of ME2 and turned it up to 11

I'd like it if combat and story were more interconnected at times. Like there are times when it's there in the enemy AI and design but I'd like it if Reaper enemies tried to indoctrinate you on the field occasionally. Or teammates comment on your gameplay style (not unusual to do since being a soldier is your only roleplaying option, they might as well give depth to it)

I'm going to defend Bioware because they actually delivered. Yeah, I know it's sad, but finishing is something. They started a trilogy and finished.

I'm still waiting for a cohesive conclusion to Xenogears. And it's approaching almost fifteen years. The original creators are a Nintendo exclusive studio now so it's never going to happen.

With all the crap thrown Bioware's way at least they finished. Yes it was bad, yes it was underwhelming, yes it was borderline insulting to the players but they tried, they honest to goodness tried. It's like the difference between a dead beat dad that stuck around and tried to be a father and one that leaves his wife and kid six months after the kid was born.

It's a video game, not a living entity. It's a created object, blame the people that made it. And the sad thing is Bioware is proud of it because it got a high metacritic score.

I still remember the live stream or an interview with Mike Laidlaw, while developing DA2, stating he wanted to learn from ME2 because of the high scores it garnered. Consequently, Mac Walters said something similar about Inquisition in response to designing Andromeda. This was during the GI interview. When he said that it sent shivers down my spine.
