Yes, very much so. Crit realistically does nothing for GU, only FI. the former's HP recovery exists purely for the purpose of showing that the latent was active when that hit occured and is capped at 1hp/hit. If you're out of the required range it wont work.

Fornis caps at 50HP/hit, activates from any range against light/dark/weapon element weak enemies. Think of it as a triple element ancient oath with included HP recovery.

Automate Deadline is good since hurling Maron will leave you at 1HP, leaving you open to a quick death by anything else. You obviously don't carry Monomates with you when using those skills, even for Halfline most people don't.
Also even if that other weapon is obviously not comparable to Fornis at all, crits are still very nice. They increase your overall DPS by a fair bit, especially since you should be using the Crit Ring as well on GU with the +50% Rate just from being in close range.
