Work hard as a healer while picking up some excess gear for ret here and there, get a nightfall, get in a raid guild and show your superiors you're a hard working dependable player with a consistently positive attitude

If you're playing solo and trying to join pug raids of course you'll probably be denied but if you join a guild with raids on farm status and you have the needed gear you should be allowed to play ret at least enough to get t2 and a hand of rag then you can go nuts and beat down everyone who doubts hybrid dps

Mortal strike is awesome too but it really isn't some ground breaking mega move that will triple your killing power. You just finally don't have to waste white hits on heroic anymore so I'd still put that in third place

As far as pulls go it seems like a lot of dungeon pulls especially are bugged. Enemies that should pull in a pack can a lot of the time be pulled on by one without even needing distract

The quality patch from yesterday completely broke BWL, you can't get past the trash after Vael as they keep resetting. Nefarian resets after P1 too.
MC is doable but don't banish anything or fights will randomly reset too.
Also no summons as those are broken too.

i've effectively leveled to 40 on elys, then 40 on zeth

here are the differences i've noticed:

i think regarding pvp, for both servers horde has dominated pretty much most of the time.
with the current state of zeth's leveling pack, the barrens/ashenvale/stv is a literal nightmare.
elysium actually has some dead zones for grinding
people in zeth tend to be non-english speakers, i think 90% of americans stayed on elys
neither of these servers are dead
zeth's max pop is 6-8k, and drops down to about 2.5k during the night (est). it's much better as a leveling experience then.
people from elysium have a higher chance of actually being a fucking faggot, all the faggots go there

Absolutely no guild will take a Ret for anything that isn't farm status, and even a fully decked out T2 Ret with swagnaros (because that's just so easy to get amirite?) still gets out dps'd by a rogue in preraid blues.

No premade will take a Ret over a holy either. SO unless you like running farm content and purposely gimping the rest of your raid and yourself, and doing random wpvp then Ret might be the spec for you.

FFS it's been over 10 years and people still can't come to terms with the fact that Ret is a blatantly broken/unfinished spec thanks to a Warrior main dev with a chip on his shoulder and it didn't get fixed until late WotLK. Just fucking accept it already or play the aforementioned expansion when they were complete

Back in the day the whole faction vs faction thing was a big deal. I mean whichever you rolled with you spent a great deal of time leveling and interacting with your faction so you would naturally become loyal, getting immersed in the story and going-ons of the world. If you came from War2/3 and had a favorite race made it an even bigger deal. Old Blizzard really did a good job of pitting the 2 against eachother, what with players not being able to understand other faction languages, making traveling into neutral zones really dangerous etc. Pretty often small wpvp encounters could turn into large scale skirmishes and even hour spanning bloodbaths with hundreds of players. Rank also meant that you were not only proud to represent your faction but you would gain honor with each kill, and you felt like you were contributing to some war effort between factions even if it wasn't really the case. Also player community meant that word got around if someone was good or got higher ranks. I mean if you saw a Grand Marshal or High Warlord you knew they were fucking legit (or had no life).

Now you can just venture out into the Broken Isle, kill a few ppl of the opposing faction and it's like the biggest inconvenience in the fucking world because you interrupted some faggot on his umpteenth world quest. There are no pvp ranks that people give a shit about anymore and nothing is worth doing unless it contributes to artifact power or gear.

Also I guess going out into the world with godly powerful gear that you spent hours upon hours of mind numbing grinding to get and terrorizing the undergeared/underleveled was something that the game kinda said "yeah you've earned this. now go have some fun". Now everything has to be on an even footing and gear has little to no bearing in pvp, which if you ask me is just lame. On horde it's pretty equal. There are more shamans but they are higher in demand. But there are next to no druids and you need 2 or 3 per raid.

I'd suggest just playing what you want for that choice. Shamans are very boring to level and you will likely kill yourself from auto attacking everything and barely surviving with 0 mana every fight. Druids are power houses for leveling and a lot of fun, but suck dick for healing 5 mans. If you're up for tanking 5 mans that can be fun but a challenge.
