Promoted units have MUCH higher stat caps than unpromoted ones. If you see a stat has turned Green, it's capped, and cannot increase further.

So...if most stats are green, it's time to promote.

If you're playing on normal you can farm around with the reeking boxes.

Try to respec/advance the characters you use the most you can look up what skills the other classes get so you might have an idea on whether or not to respec or advance.

Grinding for max stats is tedious, but it will happen eventually. You should only be grinding base classes for certain skills like vantage and armsthrift. Do some research if you don't know what they all are, or just promote and don't give a shit because Awakening's base game is piss easy.

Yes, but Reclass into another Promoted unit; For Sully, I'd advise Paladin next.

Another benefit of this is additional Skills. Paladin will give Aegis, which is helpful against ranged attacks.

So, yeah, if you wanna get even stronger, reclass into promoted units.
